Such a lovely video. I thought I loved your Parents, but your Beijing Neighbours are amazing. I cried, everyone wants to know their baby is being looked after. Amazing people!
This was lovely. Your Beijing neighbors are so warm and such the example of what I experienced when I visited the Hunan Province. They love to share the depth and richness of their culture and enjoy watching you partake in the flavors and history of their cuisines. Your parents are equally precious in the way they are game to try anything you introduce to them. Your videos always make me smile Amy❤️

I went for a student exchange to Beijing back in 2006, on the last day of the exchange we were invited to our buddy’s house for dinner. Now I understand why my buddy’s family cooked (a whole lot of) dumplings for me! It was like I think 3 huge plates of dumplings and they constantly stuffed me with them haha, but it’s really delicious and they’re a lovely family 💙
My tears drop after seeing this video. Seeing this video makes me missing my hometown Beijing. ShuShu are basically average Beijingese, warm heart and welcome everyone. Thank you for bringing back the memory. Cheers from Melbourne

My husband is Australian white, he do love to eat boiled and fried dumplings with vinegar n wasabi. Gosh you have meet such a good neighbors, blessed them.
Your neighbour sounds like a poet, he really thinks about his words and the rhythm he delivers them with. I like when he uses a great word to describe the flavour of the offal 腥味. I am not sure if there is a better translation but it was bizarrely one of my first Chinese words because it does not translate well. At the time my wife initially described it as “beasty taste” an intense gamey or offal flavour but also including the stinky smell when you open some slightly old meat... Great to see you having fun with your parents again even under difficult circumstances.

I think eating dumplings with vinegar and wasabi is a fusion of Chinese and Japanese. Besides, your neighbors in China are super nice and kind to recommend a restaurant from Beijing, after you returned to Australia, allowing your parents to try the cuisine, too. By the way, the roasted duck looks delicious and crispy, just like the Peking Duck wrap dish that I had in a Beijing restaurant, that is located in the town.

Oh and the enema thing, I'll throw my two cents in on this one. I don't think people even knew what enema was when they named the food. As you should know Amy, 肠 is the character for both sausage and intestine, 灌 can be roughly translated to "fill in" or "irrigate". When this snack/food was first created, it was using pig intestine as the sausage coat, filling it with starch and meat, and fry it, and ergo the name, literally translates to "fired stuffed sausage/intestine". It just happens that when enema was translated, the same characters were used to represent enema, and later when there's a need to translate 炸灌肠, whoever did the translation probably just used something like Google translate which isn't that intelligent and ended up translating it to "fried enema".
I am so so so happy to see you building the bridge between Chinese and Aussie. You are such an amazing person. Keep up the good work. Love from Melbourne ❤️
