I think it doesn't matter exactly what your major is and what classes you've taken. Companies are looking for quick thinkers, quick learners, and good decision makers.
UCLA alum here. I worked and lived in Santa Monica, so it was often for me. First year students, however, generally get stuck in the “bubble” and stay on the Hill a lot. Hopefully you can find a balance and get down to the beach often. Taking the 1 or 2 bus (or 720), you can get to the beach in like 25 minutes.
