This reminds me of my Grandmother's Prune cake. She used baby food prunes. She also made the buttermilk glaze. I loved this cake so much. She also added black walnuts to the cake recipe. I lost her recipe. Now I will try yours. We live in Tennessee .❤

Yum! I haven’t had black walnuts in years. My Grandfather had a tree in front of his house. They were hard as a rock! They would be great in a prune cake.

I love prune cake & used to make it for our work family get togethers. Everyone including my boss loved it & couldn’t believe it was a prune cake.
I am from middle Tennessee but was living in Indianapolis at the time. I have a black walnut tree in my front yard & black walnuts are awesome in
this cake. The buttermilk icing makes this cake !!!

Absolutely agree. The buttermilk icing is the key. My grandfather had a black walnut tree in his front yard. I think that is where I fell in love with them. They are rare down in Louisiana. FYI -I made an Ugly Duckling today. (Sunday’s Video) that was amazing!

Have you ever heard of Black Walnut Jelly ?
I’ve never tried to make it but a friend gave me a pint of it years ago & you talk about good, man it’s delicious. I used to make a jam cake every Christmas & It added so much flavor to that jam cake. I would always ice it with my Carmel frosting which my grandmother taught me how to make. She called it “burnt sugar” icing or caramel frosting by browning 1/2 cup white sugar in a cast iron skillet then adding it to the boiling butter sugar milk mixture in a pot.
It is amazingly good. I am 74 years of age now & don’t cook as much as I once did but I am making my Son a coconut cake for Easter.
It’s been such a pleasure chatting with a new friend who loves to bake as much as I do. Please do
have a marvelous Easter weekend & as I am a new subscriber to your channel keep those recipes coming 😊😉my friend.
