It’s Christmas Eve and I’m trying your bread recipe for my sons dinner tomorrow! I have it doing the first rise. I hope to cook it tonight! It smells sweet! I can’t wait to taste it!! I am just getting back into making bread since about 50 years! being in quarantine has me cooking more and learning from UA-cam! I will say I like your recipe in particular because you have mixed everything into the warm water and then add the flour to the liquid! That makes more sense to me as far as being well incorporated evenly. Thanks for making it easy!! MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎁🎄
I've been using this recipe for years to feed my family. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone else using it it. I'm so happy that other people like it too and I think it really is one of the easiest bread recipes out there.
You know what? THAT'S what it is! I couldn't figure out why, exactly, I like this video SO MUCH BETTER than the white bread one with Martha Stewart's name on it! No tacky music, and the fact that it's a REAL and AVERAGE method! No fancy chromed out standing mixers, and the realistic and READILY AVAILABLE IN THE AVG HOME suggestions (like the microwave) really feel good to listen to. Almost like a family member I haven't met yet is teaching me with social distancing in practice, here... (Les sigh... Lol) but I gotta be honest! The pace is so much more "country", than what I'm used to.... AND I LOVE IT!!! No fire to get to, just baking bread! Great job here, and you've got another fan in me! Hoping to see more from you & your kitchen! (Also, it's nice to hear the effort someone with arms like mine could have to put in! Kind of a secret way for me to gauge how much my arthritis might flare up during or afterward... Thanks for not cutting it out of the audio!)
It’s actually 2 packets of yeast for two loaves. That’s why it’s taking you 2 hours to raise. I’ve made this recipe 4 times before finding your channel and my bread turned out fantastic. I cut the sugar down to 1/3 cup so it wasn’t so sweet. However 2/3 cup sugar is great if your making cinnamon rolls or putting jelly on it when making toast.
Followed this recipe about a month ago and my loaves came out amazing! I just spent all night looking for this video to save it in my favorites, and tomorrow I'm making some more bread :) Thanks for this recipe!!
Thank you for this recipe. We buy a lot of Amish bread right from an Amish store and I think the bread I made was even better lol. I used olive oil instead of vegetable oil and I sprayed the top with a little water then I cut the top a little so it would expand a little. Came out awesome. Now I have to make 3 loaves for X-mas breakfast. Thanks again
A handle of a wooden spoon is good to use in mixing the dough. Just keep stirring in a circular motion after scraping the sides and it will become a ball of dough very quickly. I learned this from Steve on his video. He specializes in bread making. I love your video too, so thanks very much. I can't wait to try it.
U R so right about the wooden spoon handle...I use that to stir my Irish Soda Bread...but sometimes I forget, or can't find the spoon, so then I use a table fork. Mamma and Grandma used their hand with their finger's spread out like a claw...

This recipe is almost exactly like the recipe I use, minus all the sugar. I like this one because for people with allergies, like my sister in law, having no milk or eggs is great because it's the only bread she can eat. This recipe also works fabulous as a cool rise dough which is great for me because I make a large batch and can bake it at my leisure.

I made this yesterday (half the recipe as it's just me). It is super easy and the bread was delicious-although it is just a touch sweet for me. It was a bit cool here so when I needed the dough to rise, I turned on my clothes dryer for about 4-5 minutes to get it warm and they put the dough in the stopped dryer to rise. Did this on the initial rise and the second in the loaf pan. Worked great.

@@monical5432 I've noticed in all the loaves I have baked they all come out a little different As your favorite lasagna recipe does come out a little different each time you can add more sugar to make the bread sweeter or you can add less sugar it all depends and how you like it just like Just like how much garlic do you like in your lasagna try it with a little bit of this and a little less of that our little less of that a little more of this It's all good 🍞🍞🍞🍞🍞🍞

Attempting to make bread has always been soooo intimidating to me (fear of failure?). I can't tell you how much your SWEET and simple voice of instruction means to my attempt😊 Gonna give it a try, bless you 😊❤
I've made probably thousands of loaves of bread in my life, but have never made the Amish white bread. I can see why people would like it so much because of the large amount of sugar in it. It reminds me of how yummy the sweet Hawaiian rolls are :)
I saved and watched this video about 5 times!! My children love the bread so much in 3 days I’ve made 4 loaves. It stays soft in a ziploc bag with a paper towel too. Ty so very much.
I love bread😂and butter I didn’t have my reading glasses on and it look two dark buns with a G string 😂 made me plain going to make this recipe this weekend
The stores are out of bread and I don't have hardcopy recipes anymore-so I am here to watch how to make bread since I bought flour/yeast/sugar before the panic buying started. I look forward to making this and hope it can be used for cinnamon buns?
I have 2 baby girls to keep fed. I had my hubby get flour, yeast and powdered milk, just in case. I'm so HAPPY that I did!! Our stores have been out of milk, bread, meat, and so much more...I made my first 4 loaves of bread today. We are having peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner, with powdered milk...which isn't so bad when it's cold❤❤
@@sarahmcvay6689 hey you know there are a few alternatives still. You can buy canned milk, almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk sweetened and unsweetened still. Very smart to purchase your powdered milk. I think it will be next to fly off the shelves. Also, I bought ghee because butter is sooo low now too. ghee is clarified butter-so you find it in aisles. Here in Canada its in the imported foods section. Also-if eggs are low-there is ground flaxseed meal 1 tbps of fsm to 3 tbps of water stir and let rest for 5 min before adding into recipe. Just in case` you want to bake cookies for the little ones? There are some other alternatives which is what I am researching now in case this becomes the new normal.... :( The only other thing I can add is be sure to have your spiritual house in order. We aren't promised tmrw and today is the day of salvation if you do not know the Lord. With these uncertain times, I feel more secure in my faith knowing He has my life in His hands. It doesn't matter what comes next now...take care and God bless you and yours.
Thank you so much, just made the bread, absolutely gorgeous, I made 7 rolls out of the rest of the dough, so delicious, what a wonderful yummy recipe, thank you for sharing. xx
Miss Annie I’ve made before and it turned out GREAT! I just made this and it is sitting for 3 hours. This time it was very sticky and I ended up using a lot more flour. 🤦🏼♀️Did yours turn out using more flour?
I made this bread today and the only adjustment I made was cutting the amount of sugar. It still came out remarkable!! Will be making it again and again! Thank you for sharing!
Another thing great about whisking in the yeast and sugar is the yeast like to start out with plenty of oxygen! The whisking adds the oxygen! It's fall anaerobic and the first phase of how yeast works. By doing this the yeast have the oxygen they need to work hard. The yeast produce CO2 as they work which is what raises the dough! Cheers
My husband and I have made this five or six times now. Just want to say thanks for the wonderful presentation and clear and easy to follow directions. Bless y’all! Bread is wonderful...I’d rather eat cardboard than the junk that comes from most of the stores anymore LOL
@@SullivanFamilyHomestead not only that, but our 3 and 6 y.o. grandchildren have declined multiple times “nobody does it like Sara Lee” in favor of fresh baked... I wish I had a picture of some of the faces they have made when I offered them store bought versus homemade...
Very nice recipe, why is it called amish? I have been making bread like this all my life. The only exception is I beat the crap out of it, let it rise again, beat it again, then make loaves. The way my grandmother taught me at 8 years old. Always make my own, at 70 years old I cant stand store bread, lol. Great vid
Nova-Starr Maxwell I think he means after he lets it rise the first time, knock the air out, you can let it rise again, then knock the air out, then knead for a tiny bit and bake.
When my house is cool, I put a big pan of hot tap water on the floor of the oven, and proof the dough above it on one of the racks (with the door shut).
Very nice video! Very similar to how I make bread. Only differences are I use softened butter instead of veg oil and honey instead of sugar. Results are heavenly!
When you want to raise your bread or rolls, put the dough in the microwave, shut the door but not tightly shut. Leave the light on. If the door won’t stay shut put a tea towel over the edge of the door. The light gives off just enough heat so the dough rises really great.
Ty for sharing your video and your recipe. I appreciate your time and effort. Going to try this recipe. HUGS and GOD bless you all. Here in September 2020
When "proofing" your dough or allowing it to rise, put the dough ball into your oven that is not turned on, but do turn on the light to the oven while the dough proofs there. The temp of the oven with the light turned on is about 80-90 degrees f. This will work better than just putting the dough ball into the microwave.
Just before I start kneading the dough, I turn the oven on, it doesn't matter how high, just turn it on for a couple of minutes then turn it off. By the time I've finished kneading the dough and putting it into that greased bowl, the oven is nice and warm, NOT HOT, and the dough rises like crazy!
Grrrrreat recipe! Thank you for posting! My loaves were amazing and were eaten in a flash!!!! :) Next time, I'd like to add raisins. When do you suggest I add them?
I have been making this for years now. Very easy and forgiving standard white bread dough that I use for dinner rolls too. Last made for Easter dinner and from start, proof, rolled rolls, 2 proof and bake 3 hrs time.
Try Blue Bird flour, it is ground really fine, Pie O Near pie shop in Pie Town , New Mexico uses it for their pie crust. It is available on Amazon and the grocery stores in the South West States.
I tried to make bread recently (I used to all the time years ago), but wrist and shoulder problems have about got me. I bought myself a stand mixer and going to try this out. Homemade is best!!
Yum 😋. Love homemade bread. My grandma use to make it n always had fresh farm butter to put on it straight out of oven. Nothing better ! I never learned to make it but this seems easy enough. I just subscribed. Thanks for recipe going to make it soon 😀❤️🤗🙏
Thanks so much for visiting Miss Carole! I hope you've tried and love this recipe! We've got a video for quick and simple butter too, if you haven't seen it. :-)
I love your video, I love your bread... thank you... you say/use 1.5 tablespoons of yeast which is 4.5 teaspoons .... I think that 1 packet of yeast contains 2.25 teaspoons of yeast ... which still is good for 6 cups of flour .... also FYI, for the other viewers... if you want to use All Purpose (AP) flour but you want the higher protein content of Bread Flour, you can add non fat dry milk ( 0.75 or 3/4 tablespoon per cup of flour) ... (I know... one more ingredient :( )
Diabetics (like me) do understand that it is not that you cannot/should not eat sugar. It's about moderation, and preparation. Blood sugar tells the story and the difference. Know when, and how much is safe to eat and there is not a problem. Check with your Endo Doc to find out when YOUR numbers are safe to enjoy this taste treat!
Yes Desiree, you should start out with a preheated oven. Typically, any baking will require this. If it doesn't, it should say so. I hope you try and enjoy it! :-) Best wishes!
Preheat your oven, make sure it is at temp before you put bread into it for baking. You will love it. If your house is cold, you could use either your Microwave to keep the yeast / bread warm until ready to bake it. Important part is to keep it warm good luck, you will love it
This recipe is the bomb!!!! I made it today and it was easy peezy!! I made one large regular loaf and then divided the other half into two halves for two smaller loaves. Thank you for sharing the recipe. Can't wait to make it again! Stay safe, stay well, stay mighty AND let's all...stay at home and bake more bread!! #covid19craziness
I'v always been told never to put the salt directly into the yeast. Wait until the flour has been incorporated into the mixture of water, sugar and yeast, then add the salt. Also while I'm making the above mixture, I turn the oven on to whatever temp you want, say 250 degrees, for just a couple of minutes, then turn it off. After doing all the kneading then put the dough into that greased bowl, in to the oven for about an hour or so and you'll have a big, beautiful rise!
Water first, then sugar, then yeast. Let sit, covered for 5 minutes and voila! Then add the oil, then the flour and after that the salt, then mix using a wooden spoon. That's my technique.
Been baking different breads for 38 yrs to play it safe u can add ur salt to the flour. Depending on the weather some times u may need less flour I remove 1/2 cp set aside and add salt to the larger amount of flour. As u kneed the dough u will know if u need to add more flour if so a bit at a time
I made this bread today and it is a hit With my family and my neighbors. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I have tried so many recipes and this one is fantastic. . You did a great job explaining and video .
The handle of a wooden spoon makes a good dough hook and brings the mix together as you stir in a circular motion and scrape the sides of the bowl when necessary, with a spatula.

Oh YAY!!!! I'm so so glad to hear that! And I'm thrilled that you like it! :-) Enjoy hun!

I love it
As I said I bake 1 loaf at a time
And half is gone before it cools😂
So I bake another one 2 days later and the cycle repeats itself.
No more WONDER bread
for Me 👍 😀
Hi, was the bread sweet? I’m worried about the sugar. Also, how did you store the second loaf for baking later?
@@monical5432 I've noticed in all the loaves I have baked they all come out a little different
As your favorite lasagna recipe does come out a little different each time you can add more sugar to make the bread sweeter or you can add less sugar it all depends and how you like it just like
Just like how much garlic do you like in your lasagna try it with a little bit of this and a little less of that our little less of that a little more of this
It's all good
🍞🍞🍞🍞🍞🍞
@@monical5432 A bit of sugar feeds the yeast as it uses it a fuel. Hope this helps
Just baked 4 loaves last night. different technique from my childhood . Nice
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING YOUR FABULOUS RECIPE UNDERNEATH SO WE CAN HAVE IT FOR LATER THANK YOU
I made this. It came out great. I decided to make some more today so wanted to watch the video again. Really made good sandwich bread.
Yay! That's terrific! This bread is also FABULOUS french toast and bread pudding too! A jack of all trades so to speak! ;-)
I made this bread with my 12 yo daughter and 8 yo son. We did it in a mixer because...why not. It is a yummy bread. My kitchen smells like a bakery :D
How long did you knead it in your mixer? I just got a new Kitchenaid mixer and want to try some bread in it. This seems like a good recipe with which to start.

Thank you for going thru all the steps for a "green horn" like me. I love homemade bread.
I hope you enjoy it. :-) It's fabulous bread!
I made four loaves with your recipe this weekend. It was PERFECT. I made just enough for the game, and everyone loved it. Thank you so much.
Awesome!!! I'm so glad you like it! It really is a terrific bread!
Very smart of you. A lot of people don't think about the yeast.
The only other thing I can add is be sure to have your spiritual house in order. We aren't promised tmrw and today is the day of salvation if you do not know the Lord. With these uncertain times, I feel more secure in my faith knowing He has my life in His hands. It doesn't matter what comes next now...take care and God bless you and yours.
@@sarahmcvay6689 You listened to your gut instincts (the Holy Ghost).
Thanks for the beautiful ideas, and for the love of our children, family, faith and human kind! God bless us all
I don’t care what others may have said. This is the best bread ever. I have made a lot. Good texture and taste. Triple kudo.
Omg I just made this and it tastes SOooOooOo good! Thanks for sharing!
YAY!!! I'm so glad! Enjoy!
Thank you so much, just made the bread, absolutely gorgeous, I made 7 rolls out of the rest of the dough, so delicious, what a wonderful yummy recipe, thank you for sharing. xx
Wonderful! I'm so glad you like it!
It's going to be different for every region, humidity plays a big part on how much flour you use. Very nice tutorial. Thank you. Many Blessings.
Thanks so much Rhaine! :-) I appreciate it. Yes, you're absolutely correct about humidity playing a role. Even in the same house! hehe
Ummmm.....so if it's raining while I'm making this what happens? It did seem extra sticky. So I added flour until it stopped sticking.
Miss Annie
I’ve made before and it turned out GREAT!
I just made this and it is sitting for 3 hours. This time it was very sticky and I ended up using a lot more flour. 🤦🏼♀️Did yours turn out using more flour?
the best video on bread ever!! no waste
Love this recipe bread 🍞 it was easy to make I'll be using this recipe for now on 👍 My bread came out tasting 😋really good 😍
I have been using your video for reference for a couple of months now, I have never failed to make great bread with your recipe!
Awe! Thanks so much Rick! I'm so glad you're enjoying it! It's our family's favorite!
The loaves were such a beautiful golden brown ! I'll be baking some bread now , lol.
I made this bread today and the only adjustment I made was cutting the amount of sugar. It still came out remarkable!! Will be making it again and again!
Thank you for sharing!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
How much did U cut the sugar ?
Another thing great about whisking in the yeast and sugar is the yeast like to start out with plenty of oxygen! The whisking adds the oxygen! It's fall anaerobic and the first phase of how yeast works. By doing this the yeast have the oxygen they need to work hard. The yeast produce CO2 as they work which is what raises the dough! Cheers
Great to know
I follow your instruction and I baked two loaves of white bread . It's yummy.
That is a good looking loaf of bread. Going to save your recipe. Thank you so much for sharing.
My husband and I have made this five or six times now. Just want to say thanks for the wonderful presentation and clear and easy to follow directions. Bless y’all! Bread is wonderful...I’d rather eat cardboard than the junk that comes from most of the stores anymore LOL
hehe. Spoiled FOR LIFE! That's wonderful! I'm so happy to hear that you and your husband are enjoying it. :-)
@@SullivanFamilyHomestead not only that, but our 3 and 6 y.o. grandchildren have declined multiple times “nobody does it like Sara Lee” in favor of fresh baked... I wish I had a picture of some of the faces they have made when I offered them store bought versus homemade...

This is a brilliant bread recipe 👌 America's bread is sweet. I just cut down on the sugar Thanks 😊
I was going to make a bread on the Jamie Oliver youutube channel, but since this has more sugar, I'll try this as my first bread I ever baked first.
Great video. No nonsense and very well explained throughout the process. Thanks for posting.

I make this same recipe and it’s awesome
I made this bread this afternoon. It came out wonderful. Many thanks for sharing this recipe.
I'm waiting for the tradewinds in late October to turn the oven back on. Then, it will be bread all over.
My grandmother used to do this in a 50 lb sack of flower.... you are doing an amazing job!
Thanks tons!!
Great vid
Terrance Wilhite what do you mean beat it???
Hi nova Starr, beat can mean mix vigorously (egg beater for example) :)
Nova-Starr Maxwell I think he means after he lets it rise the first time, knock the air out, you can let it rise again, then knock the air out, then knead for a tiny bit and bake.
Terrance Wilhite: 100 thumbs up for you!!!
Love tbe demonstration. Best way to learn - to watch. Am encouraged to try. Thanks. :)
My first success!, thank you so much for this recipe and easy instruction. This bread is so yum and I will be making this again!
Excellent! I'm so glad to hear it! :-D Enjoy!
This is the recipe I use most often, and same the process. I mix everything in the electric mixer bowl, and let the mixer do most of the work.
Made this recipe and it turned out great! Thank you
When my house is cool, I put a big pan of hot tap water on the floor of the oven, and proof the dough above it on one of the racks (with the door shut).
great tip
That's what I do too
Or, you could have a box built and just use that with a rack in it.
Thanks for the tip, my house is always cold so this will help alot
Tina Marie brilliant!
My 6yr old granddaughter is making this today, it's in the oven right now! We're all excited to try it after it cools a bit.
Yay! I hope it turned out well!
Wow really looks good. Great job! I wrote down recipe and put in recipe file to make. Thanks for the video.
Excellent! Enjoy!!
Very nice video! Very similar to how I make bread. Only differences are I use softened butter instead of veg oil and honey instead of sugar. Results are heavenly!
That sounds divine! Do you use an equal amount of butter?
@@SullivanFamilyHomestead yes, equal amount of butter.
When you want to raise your bread or rolls, put the dough in the microwave, shut the door but not tightly shut. Leave the light on. If the door won’t stay shut put a tea towel over the edge of the door. The light gives off just enough heat so the dough rises really great.
Donna Bailey..exactly what I do..works great huh?
You are a good teacher... one of the best bread videos I've seen!
Wow, thank you! That's so very kind of you Maureen!!
I can't wait to try this recipe! Thank you!
Ty for sharing your video and your recipe. I appreciate your time and effort. Going to try this recipe. HUGS and GOD bless you all. Here in September 2020
Great instructions. A bit blurry on full screen. Thanks for a great tutorial.
I just made this again!, added cinnamon and sultanas and I cant stop eating it -so yummy
When "proofing" your dough or allowing it to rise, put the dough ball into your oven that is not turned on, but do turn on the light to the oven while the dough proofs there. The temp of the oven with the light turned on is about 80-90 degrees f. This will work better than just putting the dough ball into the microwave.
a1930ford yes, that is an excellent idea!
Marcia Hamilton ....I've also heard tap water is not good for yeast to rise, as it contains chlorine.
I use filtered water always. I don't even let my dogs drink tap water! I don't trust it one bit.

Next time, I'd like to add raisins. When do you suggest I add them?
i would mix them in with your flour and then incorporate into the dough. Im so glad you like the recipe!
I have been making this for years now. Very easy and forgiving standard white bread dough that I use for dinner rolls too. Last made for Easter dinner and from start, proof, rolled rolls, 2 proof and bake 3 hrs time.
TomfromErie j yes it is a great recipe!
When I first saw the bread I thought it was a lady's sunburnt bottom.
So I showed it to the Mrs and asked what it was.
The answer: A BREAD !!!

Hey,look I try this with my son,he is 20,he was so exciting, this bread came out so nice and the fragrance, was nice,we enjoyed it,thanks
Glad you liked it!!
Try using King Arthur Flour. Big difference.
ice- man yes that is thevbest flour on the market..kinda pricey though..
that brand of flour isnt very fluffy, I don;t know why ?
ice- man KA is all I use when baking bread... It really is the best.. Very consistent.
A stamp mixer definitely takes the manual labor out of it! Enjoy!
Yum 😋. Love homemade bread. My grandma use to make it n always had fresh farm butter to put on it straight out of oven. Nothing better ! I never learned to make it but this seems easy enough. I just subscribed. Thanks for recipe going to make it soon 😀❤️🤗🙏

This may be a dumb question but I’ve never made bread before. Is this self rising flour or is this All purpose? I’d love to try this !
@@Deeslifestylevlogs any flower will work all purpose or self-rising it's all good
I just made this bread and it was a hit with the family! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!
Thank you for that information Peradose! :-) I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Loved the video! One question. Does the oven have to be preheated or start with a cold oven? New to making bread. Your bread looks amazing!
AMEN to that!! lol. Im so glad you like the recipe. its so yummy!
@@SullivanFamilyHomestead It is indeed! It's on my list tomorrow! :-)
Marcia Hamilton that's very true. The yeast goes into the sugar water and proofs for a bit before you add the salt, oil and flour.
Marcia Hamilton the flour is added straight after the salt, so it shouldn't matter.
Water first, then sugar, then yeast. Let sit, covered for 5 minutes and voila! Then add the oil, then the flour and after that the salt, then mix using a wooden spoon. That's my technique.
Marcia Hamilton
Been baking different breads for 38 yrs to play it safe u can add ur salt to the flour. Depending on the weather some times u may need less flour I remove 1/2 cp set aside and add salt to the larger amount of flour. As u kneed the dough u will know if u need to add more flour if so a bit at a time
I made this bread today and it is a hit With my family and my neighbors. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I have tried so many recipes and this one is fantastic. . You did a great job explaining and video .
Less sugar and this dough can be used for pizza.

Awe! You're most welcome, luv! Enjoy!!
The handle of a wooden spoon makes a good dough hook and brings the mix together as you stir in a circular motion and scrape the sides of the bowl when necessary, with a spatula.
