- This is our favorite sandwich bread to make. Beats store bought any day of the week.
Written recipe was done using my stand mixer, video shows how to make this without one.
1 C. warm tap water
2 1/4 tsp. instant yeast (1 pkt.)
2 T. sugar
1/8 C. vegetable oil
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 - 3 C. all purpose flour (plus more for kneading)
To the bowl of a stand mixer (or a mixing bowl if not using a mixer) add the water, yeast and 1T. sugar. Allow to proof (foam up for 5-6 minutes). Add the oil, salt, remaining sugar and 2 1/2 C. of the flour. Begin mixing on low speed. Once the dough begins to form and pull away from the sides test the dough, it should be soft and not wet or sticky. Depending on the humidity in your home you might need to add a little more flour to get the dough to that consistency.
Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and knead it for 5 minutes. Roll the dough out to the length of your loaf pan then roll to 1/4" thickness. Working with the dough side closets to you begin to tightly roll up the dough. Once rolled, pinch the seam together and tuck under the edges. Place seam side down in your lightly greased loaf pan. Cover lightly with a clean towel and let rise till doubled in size, about an hour. Bake the loaf in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. Let the bread cool for a minute in the pan then turn it out onto a cooling rack to cool completely.

I can’t tell you how THRILLED I was when your UA-cam channel popped up a couple days ago. Years and years ago I followed your recipe column in the Williamson Daily News (Williamson W. Va.) until I couldn’t get it on line any longer. I had saved so many of your recipes, searched for them on Pinterest, (I don’t do Facebook) and didn’t think I’d ever get to see any new ones. Then VOILA! I am so happy to see you again!
13:19 "There is nothin' better than homemade bread." Amen. Thank you for your video, especially the yeast advice for the freezer. I had my yeast in the fridge and when I tried to make bread, the yeast was dead as a doornail.
This was my first time making bread and it came out perfect! Thank you so much. I appreciate that this method doesn’t require a mixer or other fancy equipment.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful bread 🍞 tutorial video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That is a beautiful loaf of bread. I am. I am going to make my mother's homemade vegetable soup and I am going to make that loaf of bread to go with it.
Made this using half white flour and half wheat flour and it turned out great!
Hey y’all I’m so happy I just found this not looking for it at all just only how to make bread lol I live in Logan WV 20 minutes from Williamson I’m shocked I’m making the bread now
I hope it turned out well. Glad to hear from another West Virginian.
It has turned to autumn here in western Massachusetts so to add extra heat to the house and a delicious aroma I made your bread recipe using butter instead of oil. I make bread often and this is the BEST and easiest bread I ever made. ! Thanks so much. I just subscribed to your channel as well. If anyone has a doubt about a great white bread this is the one. any newer baker can get great results. You are also a nice person to listen to. Thank you so much. HPpy baking.
Thank you!
Thank you for the recipe I have been trying to make bread for a few years this recipe is the best and the easiest I’ve ever tried I will continue to make this recipe. My husband and I ate over half the loaf for supper. ❤❤
Just made it today and it’s so darn delicious. No more store buying bread for me.

Looks perfect & thanks for typing the recipe for us.
Your bread looks wonderful!
I followed this recipe this afternoon, turned out great. I've made a lot of bread, followed a lot of different recipes, and imo this one is by far the easiest and most laid back to whip up. Thx for sharing.
Thank you so much for all of your teaching that you do to help all of us.😊
Will make this today. Good advice re yeast. Glad you went slow all written down. 😊😊

Love it! Thank you for sharing❣
The bread looks so delicious. Thank you i am looking forward to making this bread and eating it .
I’m going to try this recipe. Thank you 😊
That looks delicious. Do you have the ingredients listed? I’m so glad you are back!
I just listed the ingredients.
Thanks, my bread has turned out nicely. I'm still fine tuning a few things. Because I don't have a 1/8 cup, I believe I used too much oil. Maybe that's why I need more flour. I think my best loaf is yet to come.
For future reference, 1/8 C. is equal to 2 T.
@@JanetsAppalachianKitchen Yes, I figured that out. Thanks
Can u please post a video using the stand mixer? I love your video you explain things so clearly ❤
I will as soon as I can.
Tip: Store the bread with 1 stalk of celery. It will last much longer.
The heel is the best part
I’m new to your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Do you make salt rising bread? I’ve tried a few times but never got it right.
How many gram is the packet of instant yeast
1 package is 7 grams
I. Think. I. Would like. To. Make. Some. Home. Made. Bread
What size loaf pan did you put the dough in? Thanx for your help
9x5 loaf pan.
I live in SA thus I do not know whether your packets of yeast is the same size as ours
I used a 0.25 oz. pkt. or 7 grams
Most US packets of yeast are .25 ounces.
Happy Suggestion: It would be nice for you to premeasure your ingredients, so that this video is not so long.
There are only two videos on your channel and you have had your channel since 2007. Do you have a backstory?
Yes, I had a good many videos on here years ago but I had 2 rounds of cancer and treatments were very hard on me. I took everything down, not sure if I would still be here. With every prayer and faith in me, I am and ever so grateful. I decided this year I would start doing videos again.
@@JanetsAppalachianKitchenHello glad you are here congratulations. I had 2 different types of cancer. My B-cell Lymphoma has risen up a few times on me also, they tell me I will never be cured of it. They can only treat my areas when they come. My youngest which was my daughter would mark my body when things appeared the day before my appointments since 2002 . She was very young, but all I had was my kids and recently divorced in 2002. I wasn't allowed to have friends. My doctor still tells his interns about it today and how wonderful of a job she did, and that was a great idea to mark any concerns on my skin. After I always reach 5 years without treatment it seems to come back again. Still here though. Is the a way to look up your past years of videos, so I can download load them to see them all? If so can you send me the links to them. Thank you so very much if you are able to do that for me and others. 🎉🎉🎉 ❤ 😊😊 😊 Try to stay as healthy as possible 🎉🎉🎉
@@JanetsAppalachianKitchenHello again, what if you have only active yeast and not instant yeast? Do you let it rise still only 1 time or do you need to do a second rise some where in the recipe? Hope you can let me know please. If I wanted to make 2 loaves do I just double everything then? Thank you for your support and appreciate your teachings 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤😊😊😊
Yes, one rise should do fine with the active yeast. It will just take a little longer to rise. And yes, just double everything for 2 loaves.@@sandraolsen6596
@@sandraolsen6596 I can't get them back on UA-cam, but if you are on Facebook you can click on videos on my page there to see them. facebook.com/janetsappalachiankitchen
Do you use a 9”x5” or 8”x4” pan?
9"x5"
