I remember this from 1969. This is a lovely memory, but with a tinge of sadness now😢. My mum and dad are now are together again up in heaven, and I miss them dearly, and still do! Lovely and heartfelt memories
Thank you for the posting-it brings back many memories indeed! Mary, Mungo and Midge was shown on BBC1 in Britain from 1969 to 1978. I now have the series on DVD, and am enjoying it once more. Well done to all concerned!
Surprisingly, this first 6 episodes, including this was originally broadcasted during BBC One's final days at being broadcasted live on black-and-white television up until the 7th till the 13th episode onwards when this show was first broadcasted to Colour after when the switch did happen on 15th November 1969. Despite some changes, all 13 episodes of Mary, Mungo and Midge were animated and filmed in Colour via telecine, the colour versions of the first 6 episodes were not shown until 1970.
I'm from the US born in 1965, so I have never heard of this but the animation is astounding! It looks like 40's or 50's not late 60's, unbelievable, fantastic.
Classic!, remember this as a kid, born in '63 so thinking about it I was quite old! Not sure about the safety angle though - would like to Midges' and Mungos' CSCS card *lol*
Wow I thought I never watched any classic British children's television programmes like that before in my entire life. It looks kinda very interesting. Wish I watched it when I was a child.
I thought I had seen this but it was just the music. It also featured in a skit on Sesame Street called Nancy the Nanny Goat which told the story of the letter N. Back in the 60s the education people had a bunch of tunes that were available for all educational videos to use free of charge. And that’s why. I asked my mum if she remembers this, she’s English and didn’t come here until the 70s. She said she didn’t. Perhaps due to her being 13 in 1969. It still rings a bell for me though. Maybe it’s just the style. I really love this style of kids tv. Basic is better. So much better. I think when graphics are too life like, it suppresses the need to use imagination. Also the narration is important. It helps to develop comprehension and other listening skills that will later be used at school.
+icecreamman Evans The remake would have to be different: Mary lives in a crumbling block of flats with her two fathers next door to a crack den. She has no pets because the council wont allow it. Mary Can't go out at night because of the druggies. Do you live in a town like this?
@MrDarkcatify-Well, I know the Autumn of 1969 was the first showing of Mary, Mungo and Midge on BBC1, but I understood that it was repeated up until 1978 as far as I know, according to the Radio Times that I have. But I could be wrong-does anyone else have any ideas on that I wonder? Many thanks for the reply though!
oh my god Midge has a Pringles man mustache, i have only just noticed it after all these years. i only found it funny cos we have a thing in my college about the Pringles Man. lol :)
This is very charming but a bit too innocent for the good of itself and viewers. Imagine the uproar now if building sites were shown as places to explore or let dogs on; can't think either was recommended way back in 1969!

I had this one episode on VHS when I was little and must've watched it hundreds of times! It was one of my favourites. :D
This show has so much charm to it. The kids shows of this generation just cannot top it.
I was born in 62 and i remember watching this .
This is the dawn of my life. Born in '68.
I watched it in the early 70s too: I wasn't born until 1971, but remember watching it on TV.
I loved this as a child and bought the dvd [for the grandchildren] and have always been blown away by the music by Johnny Pearson...sublime...

I agree with you.

JayBee lol Yeah. If they revived it, it would be awful. Reruns will be fine.
Yes but now it would be Abdul rastus & Leroy

For those who know, please post suitable age range as I know home schoolers use these for young children - no pc YKW! I'm here because of the age!

If only.
