Dan and FabFilter have not only made the most high quality videos on music production I've ever seen, but ALSO a clear and EDUCATIONAL explanation on HOW loudness works, why it is the way it is, AND how to use it effectively. This is the kind of content that is SORELY missing from UA-cam, where half-researched and semi-educated guess-like content regarding music, mixing, and mastering has flooded the platform. This is the kind of content I'd PAY for. Having done my own research on these topics to better understand my music and my faders, I can say that there is NO better summary of this on the internet, and that even after having done my research this taught me things I STILL didn't know or realize. Incredible work FabFilter and Dan. I LOVE this content and EVERY producer should know and practice these concepts if they want to have any hope of perfecting their craft. I cannot thank you enough for providing this for FREE.
After watching all 15 minutes I realized this was posted just a few days ago and I have to wait for part 2. This has never happened to me on the internet. 😦😦😦😦😦😦😦
This was educationally insightful and a really clear discussion of what I have always wondered about and spent a lot of time looking into and only getting bits and bites here and there. Here, in 15 minutes, all is laid clear. Thank you Dan.
Honestly the best vocal tutorial artist of all time.. Any fab filter tutorial gets an instant click.. I learn so much from every one of your tutorials. Much appreciated💯
I did not come up with this quote but it accurately explains why I enjoy listening to Dan so much, for hours on end. Thanks much Dan, you beautiful human you
My god, this is the best audio related content I’ve ever seen in my life. Every video is an insight, a gem, a priceless experience. I’ve studied audio engineering in university but I’ve never had this information presented to me like this at all. Almost every single subject of these videos here and on the Dan’s channel are the eye-openers and I’m so grateful that people like Dan are using UA-cam to share this information for free (I mean we as viewers don’t pay for it). Thank you Dan, and thank you Fabfilter for using the best person on the planet to talk about your plugins!
Are you serious? See this is why I've been hesitant on throwing down thousands of dollars for something like that because I'm afraid of getting semi-ripped off and not learning all that I need to / want to especially when you can learn everything you need to for free in this internet age. All I want to do is know how to go into a mix knowing exactly what I need to do to achieve optimum loudness and clarity. I'm getting there but I feel like it's taking way longer than it should
@@lifelesun the best advice i can give you is to only pay for or watch audio engineering courses that are made by a college or a university that teaches audio engineering. i wouldn’t trust my money anyone else
This was the best explanation of what has plagued my life for years. The reason why “Dynamics Crushing” is in every profile bio of mine. The loudness war 3 weeks and no part 2. I’m going to cry.
"To be continued"! Great work as usual. Thanks Dan for this one. Can't wait for part two! You are THY man. Hope you are safe & healthy. Kindest regards, Eric
Got dam, Dan is a treasure of modern audio engineering. You get the sense that he's aware of how much brain nectar he's spilling, but he never strays from the task: filling every 10 seconds with honest to god mind-blowing knowledge
that "horrible distortion" you mention at 60'' was my first and best distortion I ever had. Passed my guitar through the tape rack with 'pause' and 'rec' buttons pressed, rec level at max and after that straight to my father's "clear sound" amp (which had a spring reverb also). I was 11 and rocking the whole northern side of the city playing "purple haze" and enormously crazy feedbacks and screams for many hours a day... Nice video! Waiting for part 2..
in addition to creating the best plugins, you also make the best tutorials, here is a video that finally allows to understand the LUFS , Bravo fabfilter and Bravo Dan !!
Awesome! I already knew a lot of this information due to trial and error. The FabFilter L2 is by far the best limiter I have ever used. If anyone is having trouble getting their tracks loud with stock or even cheap plugin limiters, please try the FabFilter L2. The L2 is an industry standard and it is available for a short free trial.
Greg Milner's ' Perfecting Sound Forever ' has a whole section dedicated to side chain compression and ' The Loudness Wars ' . A riveting read for anyone involved in sound , and anyone interested in the history of recorded music . This video makes everything touched on in Milner's tome crystal clear . Brilliant .
You've an expert educational approach, Dan. This was elegantly paced with excellent examples and musical samples that illustrated these complex concepts brilliantly! Well done!
Simply the sound of Dan Worall’s voice inspires me immediately. It’s like Q explaining his secret gadgets to me, agent -0.07(db), for mission code name: “From Russia with Loudness” Thank you, Dan! Always love seeing a new video pop up.
very insightful video on loudness. thank you! over the years i've noticed that having good bass/sub control within the mix yields for better loudness reach. kudos!
Another golden informative video! Each time I listen to Dan, I'm scared that he reveal the secret of life lol! Thank you Fabfilter, Thank you Dan! Rock on!
I love FF because of this. No frills, no subjectivity; just brilliant software engineering and information delivery. You don't have to use L2. They simply explain the main concepts of audio and loudness. And if you learned anything, you will realize that you want L2... and all the other FF software... I started with Simplon and One, and am slowly collecting, but these folks have changed the game of audio engineering forever.
Same! At the cliffhanger I was ready to click to part two, but when I didn’t see one, I looked at the video upload date and I was so sad to find that this was a new video!

I thought there's nothing else left on UA-cam to surprise me, all the tutorials are so superficial. But this one is a gem
Love your work Dan. You're playing in the sweet spot between art and science!
I’m betting the house on the Part ii video’s answer just being: ‘it depends’ 😂

I like, comment and subscribe anyway
No kidding hahaha
Im guessing its going to be balance of frequencies. And most of the time the bass info is too much deterring from loud mix.
Well you just lost the house buddy, I just watched the part 2.
