    Interesting that you don’t poke holes in your bags, which several others on UA-cam do “to give the roots oxygen.” I imagine if you don’t use too wet a soil medium there is plenty of oxygen in the bag and your experience confirms it, so I will be using your method! Thanks much for a great video.

    It is a very sound method you're using. One thing I can propose, as it is tried and has given great results, no matter of the other differences in the various methods, is to cut at the bottom THROUGH the node, not slightly below, not further below. The effect of this is to completely minimize the possibility for rot in the bottom area, and to expose that part where most of the roots emerge with energy.

    I wish I watched your video last winter when I tried to root a cutting from the mail . The cutting was not super green . I tried the moist paper towel in Tupperware container on a heat pad. No luck then tried soil by then it was probably too late in the process.

    I had tried the moist paper towel around bottom part of the cutting, put into ziplock baggie, and the cuttings developed a multitude of tiny white spots on the wood, do you have a video about these dots? I am going to use your method from now on...Excellent video!

    I'm just seeing your video and I truely enjoyed how informative it is.
    I do have a question though.
    I have seen other videos showing this method but they say to poke holes throughout the bag so the bag can get air. What's your opinion about that?

    • @RKfigs
      @RKfigs  3 роки тому +1

      I've never done it that way because I feel it will dry out the planting medium. I can see how getting some air in there might speed up the process but I don't see a need for it.

    • @merquiadessanchez8185
      @merquiadessanchez8185 3 роки тому +1

    This was very helpful and well done. Thank you. Do you make a fresh cut on the bottom of the cutting. Some people advise making a 45 degree cut about a 1/2 inch from the node and taking a slice out of the side of the cutting and others advise leaving the calloused wood. Do you know which is preferable? I also read about soaking the cutting in warm water with a tiny bit of fertilizer for one to three days to get root initials started. Any thoughts?

    • @RKfigs
      @RKfigs  3 роки тому +3

      All my cuttings are fresh so I don't need to make additional cuts I do score and soak the bottom of the cutting in water for a few minutes.

    Hey do you poke holes in your bag at all? I've seen other videos where they do that and was wondering if it needed it or if it were more successful.

    wow... so I just did some cuttings and planted already... I think I made mistake.. I added too much water lol.... I used perlite and potting mix 50/50 into a party cup and also did some in water bottle with just water fig branch. will go home and redo soil with super less water. can I keep these in my basement without sunlight ?

    • @richardsun2143

      It preserves the moisture and prevents the cutting from drying out since it doesn't yet have any roots of it's own.

    I am having trouble finding the 5x8” 4 mil bags you recommend. When I click the link in the description i do not find that bag. I searched for it by product number and ordered it but the order was canceled. I did find some 6x9” 4 mil bags. I presume these will work as well, just using more rooting medium. Please let me know. I’m waiting to stick my fig cuttings till I get all the materials from your video.

    Is it moisture or temperature that triggers a cutting to start making roots? I noticed my cuttings send out white roots then some of the roots start turning brown. Is that normal or is it a bad sign?

    • @RKfigs
      @RKfigs  3 роки тому +1

      Yes the roots are white initially and then start going darker. if you see them turning a yellowish Brown it could be a bad sign from too much water.
