Thank you. We have a large 15 yrs old green fig tree. It has more fruit than what we can do with. So we are making fig wine now. Since this one grow so well, 10 feet away we put in a Chicago hardy. We bought online a tiny twig. Next year will be 3 years in ground. It’s almost 5 feet tall, but all figs dry and dropped before ripen. I do hope it’s because too young not long enough roots to find water. All other vegetation has not having lacking water problems, only the new plant. Otherwise it looks very healthy.
I live in PA ( pocono mountains) have one tree from Italy and one called Chicago I bought at hardware store. I’ve been growing tree for 20 years and only had ediable fruit three times. The struggle is real! These videos are great information , I won’t give up the fight !
Thanks Ross for the video and information. Lots to think about and check for my figs. I'm not actually sure what type of figs mine are. I know I have 2 varieties. One we have had for a long time and I have taken a few cuttings from it. It stays a bit on the green side when ripe. They seem to be OK with an exception of one that is dropping its fruit. The other variety is one we got from a friend. Its a different variety. A bit browner when ripe. It's was transplanted in early spring last year, so it's still growing up at the moment. Just a few fruit so far. Sonya and I are in Newcastle NSW Australia, east coast, a bit similar to California, maybe a bit wetter. Anyway, I'll try to be in touch with a video of our figs and stay in touch about growing figs. Cheers for now Shaun.
Another great informative video, I’m about 1 1/2 hours south of you in MD and I’m having a HORRIBLE season because of the humidity. Last year my I-258 gave me 60 + figs and this year I have about 6 that are staying on, all my other trees are having a horrible time keeping the crop attached as well. The humidity this year is off the charts.
Gooch, can I mooch some i-258 cuttings? 😉 I wish I had an i-258 that was dropping figs. Seriously, I have pretty good cuttings myself and I'm done going broke on tulipbid.
Hi Ross. Thank You for good video. i have fig tree in los angeles area. it is about 9 years old and had no issues until this year. it has lots of fruits like usual but this year the fruits are dropping lot. i look them and find out one or two needle holes on the fruit and inside of the fruit is spoiled. if you look at your video on 4:30 minute until 4:45 minute you will see same issue that i have. you remove one fruit and the other one on tree has small hole. please take look and if you can help me with that i really appreciate. Thank you
My 15 year old tree has the exact issue as yours since last year. Hundreds of premature figs dropped. They start to drop again now. I searched it caused by black fig fly. I wonder if bagging the fig would help.
i got a $100 turkey fig recently. it looks like two multitrunk trees about 3' tall with 25 fruit total. in the last few days i noticed 3 figs fell off and im trying to figure out why. thanks for the video
TY! Here in CA (I live in San Diego), I have been having some issues! LOL! We had a gloomy, wet, spring. It just now is getting warmer, but still high humidity. I have rust on some, dropping figs on others, and I don't think I ever got brebas on any of them (I have 14 varieties...just bought forever home, and went all in...in containers!). Anyway, this gives me some ideas of what may be happening. I was thinking maybe a bit of shock from being repotted when I bought them, and weird weather. I'll give them another year and see what happens. Some of them are looking great, too!
Bought a Turkey and some other common breed of fig tree from a nursery 15 years ago. They were supposed to pollinate each other and are only about 10 feet apart. Both are huge and healthy looking, but have dropped every single fruit they ever produced. I cut both to the ground a few years ago in frustration, but they are huge again. How do I figure out what the problem is?
How do you keep them living in the ground over winter I PA. I live in WinI have mine in a Container and have had a few Fi legs but they always fall off
My rooted fig trees r fruiting like crazy so my violette de bordeaux is ripenning by the days in the other hand my ficus michurista drops when it gets about an inch long. They r both very healthy n i dont understand what's happening?
Mine looks super healthy doing well just the picture of health and had little figs little smaller than 1/8th'' and all sudden just all fell off. Still looks healthy though. Its a common fig and every leaf is perfect not a spot plenty water but not too much either. 5ft tall 19 months old and froze back to ground last year. Its a in ground tree.
It's hard to get rite in the sweet spot between under and over watering. I usually stick finger in soil couple inches down like everyone says. And if its dry I water heavy. All mine are in pots. I seem to only have to water once a week or so even without rain. Soil just always stays damp. And it drains well too so its confusing. Maybe not enough roots to soak up the water quick enough? Who knows. I have figs drying up and dropping on both of my fruiting trees rite now and it's so frustrating.
I got mine from a nursery. It is in a pot. Loads of leaves, and loads of figs, however they only grow small, stop growing and then drop off. It is now 3 years old.
Hi Ross. I live in California. My tree has been giving me figs for over 10 years with no problems. This year the figs are falling while they are green. I water it same as always. How do I know if it has too much water or not enough?
I have this problem, the figs of my plants are falling before ripening, they grew from seed, I think the cause is because the climate where I live here in Costa Rica (near the Atlantic coast) is very changeable, it is hot and wet and has been raining a lot, the leaves are falling and their small fruits too, other fruits look better because the large foliage of the leaves are protecting them from rain, they are young fig trees and this is their first harvest.
My fig tree is almost 28 years old during the years we have enjoyed the abundant fruits. The last two years the figs are dropping still green, watering has been the same. What could be the reason
I have a main fig tree that gives plenty of fruit but any other tree that either comes from the root of the main one or from cutting has this problem. Plenty of fruit but they all fall off or just stay small. ☹
Hi, i am in zone 7/b,my Della Signora variety starts fruiting in april after good, regular watering, not in end of may as written in the description. This fruits arr dropping end of june. Other varieties like Dalmatie makes the same, but this Dalmatie makes fruits again in June, and they are 2/3 cm big now. The Della Signora has very little fruits like a pea, and in time it is almost a month differrnce to the Dalmatie. Can my Della Signora a late variety? The dalmatie ripens its second crop in september, the della signora not till october all fall off… Can early watering bring the trees in vegetation too early and make the small 3 years ago planted plants to make fruits very early, and april may weaher is cold to ripen them? Maybe not watering just from may wont induce early figs, and make fruits according to the calender? My dalmatie has 3 branches, i pinched it and somehow it has slowed upright growth, it makes shorter flushes and more horizontally, but lot of fruits. If i cut it back next spring almost to the ground for cuttings as well, will it induce growth with more taller branches i hope. Dirth okay, plenty sun, plenty water they get, no leaf drop:) Thanks
I bought 4 fig trees from Amazon. 2 are doing fine and 2 are drying up with the leaves. Is my plant dying completely or will it bounce back. The types doing well are Chicago and Bordeaux. I don't remember what the other 2 are, Please answer me back.
Yes first my leaves started drop of and then my figs drop . And it is common fig buy from nursery.. And here we have more then 110degree ..and first they become softer and then drop of...
Hi Ross, Can you do a video on what fertaliser to use to help ones fig trees to produce fruit? I am in the middle of the UK, but not getting figs on my tree. I did pinch the trees at the start of June, after watching one of your videos. But the new side shoots look to be just leaves?
In Britain June was cold and wet so in the last fortnight I've had five figs fall.when I've cut them open there centre has been black so I believe they are suffering from the same mould that coreses tomato end rot.
I have a fig tree in my backyard my grandpa planted, in Texas. It's at least 20 feet tall, i have no idea what it is, and it was pruned the first 10 years or so but then my grandpa passed and my grandma let the tree grow. The tree grows fruit every year but it never ripens, or the ones that do are very small. Summer just started but when winter comes should I knock it back? Been watering 5qts of water every day, is that enough? Or maybe I should try fertilizers?
edit : i didn't realize figs could be "ripe" and green so it turns out that they definitely were ripening and are just some kind of smaller variety. This summer probably harvested about 5lbs - 6lbs of figs over 6-8 weeks. however its dropping leaves now, so we wait untill next season.
Hi, thank you for the interesting content. May I ask you to which size unpollonized figs will grow before they drop? Thank you for your answer. Have a good day!
In the sixth seal of revelation then, the stars are falling to earth, and those stars could symbolically mean angels, out of neglect out of a lack of care and nurture, by being passed over as less important than others with a pinch, not allowed to grow in their time, rushed to completion, not polonaise not finding love, not getting the nurture that they need of water, we’re just experiencing a rapidly changing environment. Whether it’s astroids or angels or whatever, that’s probably why.
I don’t believe in God or Angels, but I know from being close to nature for 80 years, that all life is sentient. Nature is responding in these times to the lack of communication on our part with the Nature Kingdoms, the refusal to see them as equal participants in life…we look down on them thinking we are higher forms of life than they are. We are forcing them into unnatural roles…we are abusing them…grafting is an example, and now I am seeing a refusal by the Nature Kingdoms to be any longer subservient and in some cases are refusing to live, refusing to produce fruit, etc. Some of the Kingdoms, like fruits and vegetables are responding in anger, just like angry children. It will get worse, trust me on this. Just as the Water Element is creating drought devastation, or floods, this is just getting started.

There is so much green in your yard. Its wonderful.
Thank you for a wonderful detailed overview of the fig world
Wow, this just happened to me today. Ross = genius.

I recently got three trees 2 brown turkey and a celesta. The figs on the celesta have like a white mold on them while still on the tree.

I got mine from a nursery. It is in a pot. Loads of leaves, and loads of figs, however they only grow small, stop growing and then drop off. It is now 3 years old.
So why are my leaves yellowing and figs drooping in south Louisiana in spring? Thanks brother!🙏
I was hesitant to click this video because I wasn’t sure it would have an answer.
Thanks
Hi Ross. I live in California. My tree has been giving me figs for over 10 years with no problems. This year the figs are falling while they are green. I water it same as always. How do I know if it has too much water or not enough?
It's very likely not enough water. Send me some photos of your tree and I'll try to confirm that.
Thanks for sharing all the great info.!!
Can u tell me if my Texas everbearing in self pollinating or do I need to pollinate thanks for ur help
Self pollinating.
Hi Ross how often you water your potted figs in PA 😊
I do spray them in the morning with water( like citrus). Seems to help because my summer is dry and hot and rolls leaves.
My fig tree is almost 28 years old during the years we have enjoyed the abundant fruits. The last two years the figs are dropping still green, watering has been the same. What could be the reason
How do you know if you have a male fig tree
Good video Ross ,interesting trying to get figs from a veriety that needs pollination in the north sounds too defficult to me.
Thanks awesome video from Az

Phosphorus
Organic phosphorus
Fertilizer is not always the answer. Sometimes they grow too vigorously from too much fertilizer and therefore do not fruit.
That's a lot of great information, thank you!!👍👍

Andrew Hunter yeah, same in Ireland. Coldest June I can remember in a long time. Set me back a few weeks
