What I give all my vegetables and trees is comfrey tea, worm tea, compost tea and fish amino acid I also make myself. I feed every other week. Last year was my first year growing figs from cuttings. I was getting VDBs and RDBs that were 4 and 5 ft in a 2 gal pots. With thick trunks. When they went in the ground they grew another 1ft before I pinched. Had delicious figs from both. Chicago Hardy also produced figs. Other varieties grew to about 3ft in pots but didn’t produce figs. By the end of the season the ones in the ground had 1.5 to 2in in trunks. In pots about an 1in. This is my 3rd season using this method of fertilizing, it’s cheap, easy and the results speak for themselves.
Great method!
Yes, homemade fertilizers are no less effective than store-bought ones.
Thank you for the excellent video. Adding the calendars helps a lot!
I'm glad you liked it!
Thank you for sharing your videos
Thanks for watching😊
Great video. That's really helpful.
I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for watching
Awersome video.I’m from Malaysia -A tropical Climate country.
Thanks so much for the info!!
Thanks for watching 😊
I am so glad to find you. I am in cold northern Ohio and have my first 2 Fig trees. I got them last year and am hoping to have a couple figs this year. It seems that all the other people who do Fig videos are down south and that just doesn't work for me with the cold weather here. I hope to learn a lot from you.
Great info
Thanks for the info
Thank you so much for your video was very very helpful. I have a fig tree that looks as if it's dead but I know it's not now I understand it to be dormant and what I need to do to help bring it to life.
I need to finish this video!!! ❤
I'm not sure what you mean💁♂️ but thanks for watching 👍
New subscriber here. Loving your channel. Thanks for your info!

Great and informative video! What would be a good fertilizer for the Galveston Texas area? Thank you in advance for your reply back!!
I watched this video earlier today and I must say NOW I understand much better what to do! I'm starting TODAY!! One question: Can I use fish meal instead of the liquid fish fertilizer?? Thanks for the info!!!
I like fish fertilizer, bone meal, blender eggs shell bananas peal, leave been compart/ decompose for 8 years
My mission and brown turkey do great my kadota dont develop but tiny trees and i think the kadota needs to mature more....definitely need this info tho
Hi, does adding the granular lime boost the PH too high? Is that something to be wary of?
Thanks for the comprehensive info! Glad to find another Ontario-based fig grower. I'm making up my calendars as per your schedule. One question that I have is do you stop applying fertilizer altogether in September to get the plants ready for dormancy? Do you ease them off of it or cold turkey?
Cold Turkey
Thankyou from zone 8B in Vancouver BC. What month do you begin alternating 18-18-21 and the bloom booster? Also, on the calendars you showed us, when do you feed the chicken manure? Thankyou.
one final question, I recently bought some Green planet fertilizer. from PNW. The GROW is a 16-10-8. and the BLOOM is a 8-12-16..I have used this twice as its a 3 week fertilizer. So, I'm looking at the numbers and it seems that perhaps I could simply stick with the bloom along with the epsoms, bone meal fish fertilizer and maybe the acti-sol chicken manure pellets? I just saw that you use the chicken only till mid season which is June'ish? . What say you? I just wanna be able to have a solid plan.
Questions : when do you start feeding the bloom every other week ?
when do you add that chicken manure and how much per Fig plant?
and could I totally substitute the Acti-sol Chicken manure for the Tomato Tone ? Thank you.
This is the first of your videos I have seen. I have 2 fig trees in their 3rd year. I have grown them in large clay pots up until now. I noticed yours in 5 gallon buckets. Do you start them that way, or when do you transfer them to that size container? Also, when do you start setting yours outside? I am further south of you (near the Ohio River) and still have mine indoor from over wintering.
Thanks for your help.
Hi thanks for your comment. I start most of my trees from cuttings in 4"x8" bags, here is my rooting proceess ua-cam.com/video/NRSSTnfbHw4/v-deo.html then I transfer to a small pot I try to get my figs outside in March weather permitting but sometimes I can't get them out until April here is my technique for bringing them out even when the weather is still a little too cold outside ua-cam.com/video/rQqQa5RsDP4/v-deo.html
Cheers😊
From what i have read chemical fertilizers are chemically derived from natural sources. Not strait away chemicals.
When is your first and last frost date? Would you say you start "waking" fertilizing your figs 1 month before your last frost date in the spring? I am in zone 6. This video is very helpful
You need to use organic ones. TPS nutrients is the best: they have a full spectrum with microbes and micronutrients. Even an all in one
Can you please tell me what you use demonMax for? Its listed in your links below? It's not listed for gardening use. Do you use it to spray your fig trees? Is it safe?
Where do you live? Is your greenhouse heated? Do you only grow cold hearty varieties? Im in NE Ohio. Thank you!
My Improved Celeste is sending out suckers at the base before any buds. Is this common?
It happens. Is the top alive?
@@RKfigs I believe so, there is green below the outer bark.
Is it possible to ripen Small to medium figs in the beginning of October? Zone 7B. I water and fertilize every other day. One or two are ripe. Days are quickly getting shorter and colder. Temps are currently from low 70s daytime and upper 50s night time with 12 hours of daylight.
Fertilizing every other day might be a bit too much. Figs generally need the heat to ripen so during the cold months I tend to do the Fig shuffle and hope to get a work day or two to get the remaining figs the ripen. There is a trick that some people use and put olive oil on the eye of the Fig to speed up the process.
@@RKfigs so the oiling worked very well. There were some small unripened figs left right before winter and the squirrels or some other animals ate them. Next time I will start earlier in the season when there’s more daylight.
Hey friend, I just wanna share with you. The last number is not Foster. The last number is potassium. Middle number is phosphorus. First number is nitrogen NPK nitrogen phosphorus potassium. I just wanted to share that with you cause you got them backwards.
Do you leave your figs in the green house over winter?
If so, do you provide any heat source?
No watch this ua-cam.com/video/rzzyYtzupeg/v-deo.html
How do you fertilize your in-ground fig trees?
How often do you water your trees this time of year?
My trees are in a greenhouse Tent now so depending on the weather. More sun and heat = more watering
😳🤤🤤
Do you sell fig cuttings
Yes in the fall and winter. Now I have Newly rooted trees
Darn, tomato tone on Amazon is currently unavailable. Hmmm
Try Walmart
@@RKfigs Our local Walmart here in Surrey doesnt have it either, Thank ya for the suggestion though, its gotta be around somewhere..meanwhile, what about just using the acti sol chicken manure pellets instead?
Dang... figs are expensive to grow. Just to fill the pots with potting soil is too much and we need to add all these on top.
It's like each fig will cost $10 to eat.
Hey rk how are you?
I’m trying to connect with you my friend to add new fig variety to my collection from you. Please let me know how we can connect. Thank you 🙏🏽
You can reach out to me on Instagram RKFigs or via my webpage RKFigs.ca there you can see all the figs I have available and even place an order right from the website
You wouldn't happen to be in NB, would you??
No I'm in ON but I ship to NB all the time. Rkfigs.ca
This routine would end up costing you about $5 per fig to grow
You mention your short growing season but I have no clue as to where you are and how short your growing season really is.
Zone 5
Yes I really would like it if all content creators would mention in the beginning of each video WHERE they are. I've looked at creator's main page, etc and it becomes a search to discover this. We're all in different zones, microclimates, etc. Thanks.
@@charlotteking8123 I agree.
Way too complicated and too many redundant products containing the same micro and macro nutrients. Very expensive way to grow fruit.
Some good information, but lots of scientifically incorrect information on how plants uptake nutrients.
