Well done for spotting the mysterious 5th flatmate. For some reason, I never noticed them until it was pointed out online, and I had seen the series countless times by then.
Technically the young ones was a variety show not a comedy show hence the reason it contains so many musicians and the brief flashes of random images you can only see clearly with freeze frame. They got a bigger production budget at the BBC if it was a variety show.
Yup, Rik and Ade met at College, got involved with Peter Richardson & Nigel Planner (Neil) as well as French and Saunders, the various double acts became and ensemble with Alexie Sayle and Peter Richardson blagged their way into being the first show on Channel 4 'Comic Strip Presents' was born. (Everyone in the young Ones, except Mike, but French and Saunders, Robbie Coltrane's first ever performances as a beaten up house wife running a cafe and a homeless Gypsy pervert. Anyway, the episode of Comic Strip called Bad News and the sequel Bad News Tour got a song played on Top of the Pops and from their popularity they decided to do the Young Ones, intending it to be Rik, Ade, Nigel and Peter, though Peter prefers to do his own writing, directing etc and dropped out, Christopher Ryan stepped in and we got this :D A perfect storm. Comic Strip Presents (Many seasons, all different stories, all this lot and more) Filthy Rich and Catflap (Between the Young Ones and Bottom, same sort of thing Rik, Ade and Nigel and it's fantastic!) You should check them out, Comic Strip is solid with only maybe 5/6 poor episodes years into it, the rest are gold!
That reminds me, my foster dad is worried about the milk I got, best before 13/12/2023 and as my fridge set at temperature shops use, sort of on edge before would freeze stuff, so yes even to this day you can look and smell it and both ways don't seem like it gone off
Wtf, I was watching casually then bam gerbils mention, was so not expecting that You made me check, apparently from 5 you can drink alcohol at home or other private premises and says nothing about a meal until if you’re 16 or 17 and accompanied by an adult, you can drink (but not buy) beer, wine or cider with a meal, before looked I thought from 5 can have one with a meal but unsure location (said one as apparently limit is one drink a week or month) Wtf just read against law to try to buy when under 18, I thought you can but they just refuse to allow you

Cliff Richard actually performed a version of Living Doll with the cast of the Young Ones for comic relief .

yeah rik must be about 24 in this, a baby 😭💕
I think this was like the first sitcom aimed at students and the younger generation. There is a 5th housemate hidden in the back he's never noticed
I heard he is actually a she. They never said who played her...
No Alexei Sayle played the landlord Jerzy Balowski and he appears in every single episode as a different member of the Balowski family each time

This first series was late 1982 and started the same week as Channel 4 though this was on BBC2 second series was in 1984 Luke
Thanks for clarifying that mate! 🙌🏻
@@YorkshiremanReacts26 I think this episode was just a pilot, and from now on, it gets better, in their new dwellings.
Fresh faced Rik.
