Great video man. I was telling someone exactly this last week. While they tell us trophies and awards are the most important, Jay-Jay is still remembered today while some world cup winners have long been forgotten. It's HOW he played that's embedded him in the memories of football fans.
Love jay jay. Reminds me of a time the game wasn’t so obsessed over spreadsheets and stats. Just an expressive artist, much better than the robots of today.
I'm among those lucky ones who got to see him play, and I fell in love with him and Bolton during that time. They were a team every EPL behemoth hated to face
I still maintain that he is the best African player ive seen play the game, better than Etoo, better than Drogba even better than Salah. Amazing talent that always brought joy to the field.
I have to say I have met Uncle Jay Jay and took a selfie, and I dated a family friend of President Weha and I have to say his time during his Milan days was the best I have seen in terms of overall skill, power, speed and creativity. Uncle Jay Jay was mercurial and an innovator of the game. He’ll always be remembered. 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾
Jay Jay brought people to the stadium just to see Him express Himself and Command the ball to do what He wants.. it was far more than stats. Hopefully He will be remembered for His Great Leadership and ability to make something out of nothing
Surulere Lagos 1993, I just bought a copy of a sports magazine named COMPLETE FOOTBALL, and the cover picture was a shot of a player in motion with the ball, and a little inscription that said.. Austin Okocha, Eintracht Frankfurt & Super Eagles. I didn't know who he was and only thought of him a prospect who made the cover. With the magazine in my hand, i sat in the pitch to watch live the NIGERIA / ALGERIA WC qualifier. Algeria scored in the first minute and the stadium went cold. Just out of nowhere, this boy with a number 12 jersey in the midfield, took control of the game and equalised for Nigeria via a free kick. He tormented the Algerians with sublime touches that awed their team to submission and held us the fans spellbound. He later created three more chances which Nigeria converted. Nobody in my corner knew him and people were asking who he was? A dude said his name is Austin Okocha and he plays in Frankfurt. Hearing the name, I immediately took a glance at the magazine in my hand and said FUCK ME!
Jay-Jay Okocha is a Global Football Legend regardless of trophy or not. I will leave the rest for others to comment. God bless and long live Jay-Jay Okocha. He has left an indelible mark in football history that can never be erased. Thanks for your highlights, great man.
They will never be another jay jay or ronaldnho because of the way football is now those men loved the game and played for fans not tittles. Most skilful players on the pitch no matter the intensity of the game. Game changers Jay jay the magician ❤
Nice video dude 👏. Came here after watching his brilliant goal against Oliver Kahn. I was born in 2003 so never had the opportunity to watch this amazing player. Thanks a lot again for this video ❤
Don't forget his passing. They were amazing to watch 💯. Like "How did he know that player was going to be there?" "How did the ball keep gaining speed (instead of decelerating) as it soared in the air?" "How did the ball just suddenly stop at that guy's feet?" It was like Okocha literally spoke to the ball..
Who knew Jayjay started the legover? I didnt. However, his most wicked skill is the one where he uses his leg to bounce the ball on the floor and over your head. Watch that same video where he confirmed Ronaldinho got that move from him.
One of the most entertaining players ever. Like a Quagliarella or Le Tissier in a way. A player remembered for moments of beauty rather than winning titles.
Greedy agents killed JayJay chances of playing in big clubs. He once said he had never heard of Bolton Wonderers when he signed for them, it was that bad!
Such a MAJOR legend in world football; it's been a million years and young lads still take the time to talk and make videos about him. He was called "the African Maradona" by hispanic broadcasters back in the day. One of the top 5 nigerians to ever play(if not the greatest ever), hands down
He had offers from high profile clubs but came to Bolton because he wanted to play in England. He helped them escape relegation against pundits expectations. He made non - Bolton fans watch Bolton play. Ronaldinho even said Okocha influenced him during their youthful days at PSG. He said he loves the way Okocha moves the ball.
Couldn't believe Bolton got this guy. I remember saying to some football nubs to watch this guy play. They were all very surprised at his talent but I wasn't.
To me Jay Jay Okocha and Ronaldinho have been the most two great creative soccer players who ever lived. They made soccer very colourful , it's not only about trophies but the beauty of it too.
Bolton got to go down as completing one of the greatest signings of all time convincing Okocha. Also fair play to Bolton signing some several brilliant players during that period.
People have no idea how impressive it is to cone from a poverty & destabilized country from Africa to the biggest stages of European football.. infact this guys talent is so superb & unique...
I agree 👍 you. That's why he wasn't taking too serious. If he was from France, Britain, Spain, Brazil, Argentina etc. He would have been given world 🌎 best player.
Nigeria wouldn’t have won a bronze medal in the three AFCON Okocha captained the national team if not for Kanu. Okocha was a good entertainer and dribbler. But all his prowess was done at the expense of the national team losing. He would dribble until he kept his striker on offside position. He would be given the ball, even as a midfielder, dribble until he loses it. That may be why he didn’t play for big teams. At PSG he was seldom used for must-win matches. If only football had been for entertainment, Okocha would have perhaps been the best player ever. Unfortunately, football is not, especially national football. Okocha was good for the art; not for the competition
I have been struggling to put out this exact comment of yours for so many years due to the fact i also love Okocha and wouldn't want to destroy the flow of perception per time.. Yeah! Okocha was great on some standards and was the hero in some pocket of matches for Club & Country but, Kanu edge him out on many occasions that they were on the field together. Kanu was a better team player than Okocha and his match winning tactics is much laid in our heart till this day. I urge any doubter as to the potentials of Kanu to put their achievements side by side of each other and study why it was so. [Ref:~ Kanu was two times Africa footballer of the year].

Cause remember this, without Ronaldinho, there would be no Messi. . . . Of course... I speculate O_o "If my aunty was my uncle" and all that
Iam not talking cos he' s my brother or having played alongside him on same team before his European journey but the honest truth.... No one was, is skilled than him till this 2024.Like they say ...he speaks to ball and the ball obeys him. & yes plays soccer like a video game. Sorry, nobody will remember JJ unless they are Bolton fans. You have to remember that in 2003 the PL wasn't the best league in the world. It was becoming that, but wasn't there yet. So, the number of people being exposed to Okocha was high, but consisted mainly of UK, Australian and some US viewers. In the remaining areas of the world he is still largely unknown. Also, the fact that he didn't play the Champions League or the UEFA Cup, means his influence was diminished. Also, at the end of the day, someone with 120 something appearances, and only 11 assists and a few more goals, isn't someone that made a serious impact in the PL. He touched the ball a lot, but nothing much came out of it. I always compare him to Angel DiMaria: they do a lot of stuff, but only rarely something comes out of it. I liked seeing him play, but I didn't like him as a player.
Pure racism against JJ. Because he wasn't white FIFA never hyped him, nor any of the clubs made him an icon but when Ronaldinho came to meet him then they started hyping Ronaldinho yet Ronaldinho admits he learnt a lot from JJ at his first club. Sad but we're proud of u a son of the rich heritage of Africa.. Jay Jay Okocha we love u
