Definitely need to see how the wear will manifest and at what rate relative to barrel and gas port. Another interesting consideration is if the same effect could prolong barrel life as the port erodes. Just restrict more flow by tightening it more. Assuming port erosion goes faster than the rifling ofc.

    The best ideas always seem to be the simplest ones. Although adjustable gas flow itself isn't anything new, this extremely easy and tool-free on the fly enduser adjustable is a great invention surprisingly late in the lifetime of the black rifle genre.
    I own a number of them in various configurations, including my own build of the military AR10, M5, SR25, SASS, whatever it might be known as for the time being. For $100 this would be worth it. For $250, you can spend that extra money on a suppressor with very low back pressure like the OSS Helix can. Then the suppressor will work on multiple rifles/ pistols stretching that money further.

    • @cr0ss0ut
      @cr0ss0ut 2 роки тому +1

      Tax stamp is 200. The helix is another 1200 on top of that..

    • @Uberragen21
      @Uberragen21 2 роки тому +2

      @@cr0ss0ut - the Helix is $900 according to their website. Yes, another $200 for the tax stamp, but the can is transferable to multiple firearms and not limited to just one, unlike this gas block.
      So again, it's not worth it for that cost when you have many other adjustable gas block options for under $100 and other suppressor options that are interchangeable between firearms unlike a gas block.
      I understand the whole design cost being tied directly to the cost of this item, but careful sales analysis will often show if the demand is sufficient at a certain price point, the demand often increases at a lower price point. Demand is directly correlated to price.

    • @cr0ss0ut
      @cr0ss0ut 2 роки тому

      Ti version is 1300. Yes can be moved to multiple platforms. But you often still need a properly tuned rifle. Gas block is for tuning your rifle. Not just adjustment for suppressor use. That said, oss helix isn't a simple end all to the gas problem. It mitigates issues compared to a traditional can but can run into gas issues.

      @@abolishtheatfandrepealthen6014 I'm not speaking about service rifles here. For Competition rifles, at a certain point in component and ammo choice, you changing out the spring and buffer weight won't be enough unless you're using one of the JP set ups. Even then, an adjustable gas is more of a sure way to do it. Honestly it's two methods to solve the same problem.. this goes with tuning short barreled rifles in boutique calibers. At some point you're better off regulating the gas properly. As most kit guns won't have their gas ports drilled properly in the first place.

      @@abolishtheatfandrepealthen6014 you're right this product is for a narrow market. This product isn't for production or a mass manufactured gun. This is for a one off build by an enthusiast. In which components are not made to a certain specification with compatibility in mind. Thus, properly weighted buffers and springs may not be available for a part combination a builder is looking to achieve. Thus an adjustable gas block such as this allowes you to tune the input your components so you can have it match the desired output.

      The Wave Spring used in Riflespeed Gas Controls features the same material specifications and construction as the springs used in suppressor mounts and mechanisms throughout the industry. In fact, some of the same people involved in those projects were involved in the development of Riflespeed Gas Controls. We've also validated the performance of the spring (and all components) through iterative and destructive testing over tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition in many popular cartridges. Riflespeed Gas Controls were developed through years of testing and refinement and are intended to provide rugged and reliable duty grade performance in hard use. Low pro adjustable gas blocks, that technically dont have to be pinned, and barrels dont need to be dimpled,, i know most guys swear by it, but my primary builds i shoot still 200 to 500 rds a week, and ive never had mine break loose. And its outside, on course, running, banging into trees, and dirt, an wood, and its stayed tight with just set skrews. Its a sweet design, and looks great, and of course guys will buy it, but not sure i will. While I trust that you did extensive testing, actually seeing the benchmarks set and the round counts would be reassuring.

    • @riflespeed
      @riflespeed  2 роки тому +25

      That's totally understandable. We've conducted significant iterative and destructive testing to ensure the reliability and ruggedness of Riflespeed Gas Controls. Gas Controls have been engineered, developed and tested to exceed the service life of any component on your firearm. From the very beginning this has been developed to be a truly duty grade system. The wear item on the Gas Control is the Plunger. Service life on the Plunger ranges from 10,000-25,000 rounds, depending on firing schedule. When you wear out a barrel or bolt we suggest you replace the Plunger and Wave Spring as part of the refitting process. Riflespeed Gas Controls consist solely of rugged and simple parts made from specifically chosen materials that have been proven to provide reliability and durability through significant use. The benchmark set for durability is that the Gas Control is never the weak link. Your Gas Control is warrantied for life (see the website) against defects and repair and replacement parts are readily available. All maintenance of an installed Gas Control can be performed by the user with no tools. Thanks for your interest in Riflespeed!

One possible solution might be to make multiple lengths of the nut on the front that could be long enough to extend just past a longer handguard. I suppose if you're using a bunch of different powder charges and different weight bullets and need to adjust the gas flow, but most of us use pretty similar ammo. Am I missing something here?

    • @riflespeed
      @riflespeed  2 роки тому +26

      Neil, for many of us who shoot for recreation, especially those with who don't shoot suppressed and stick with a couple favorite types of ammo, adjustments may be fairly infrequent. For those who shoot a variety of ammo, shoot in temperature extremes, shoot suppressed & unsuppressed, shoot high round counts, or who want to tune their carbine for the absolute minimum recoil and aiming disruption while still achieving perfect 100% reliability in all conditions, regardless of factors, a tunable gas system is a must. There is not one thing that can be done to make an AR shoot as softly and consistently as being able to tune your gas system to the conditions and configuration at hand. The ability to make adjustments between numbered and repeatable settings without tools, the ability to easily maintain and reconfigure your Gas Control, and the rugged design that is completely free of small springs, detents, screws, pins, etc. separate Riflespeed Gas Controls from any system on the market. I'd invite you to check out an article on the RIFLEBLOG that goes into the reasons why the ability to control your gas system is so important. www.riflespeed.com/The-Fallacy-of-the-Ideal-Gas-Port_b_4.html There are a few other articles on there you might enjoy as well. This fal technology will only work on a rifle if the handguard does not cover the adjustment knob, limiting your choices on forward handguard options. If you have a mid or rifle length gas system then you could probably deal with it. Carbine length gas systems severely limit you.

      @@riflespeed Yes, but that is the maximum this gas system will allow, limiting all other longer options. In that case, why the prohibitive price tag? • @sluttybutt
    @sluttybutt 2 роки тому +1

    I'm interested, but I have questions. What advantages does this offer over existing adjustable gas blocks besides tool-less adjustment? Given that there are so many varieties, that is. Does this solve/handle carbon locking? What are the materials it's constructed of and why were those materials chosen? I would imagine polymer would be capable of withstanding the heat demands and would reduce the issue of additional front weight, but I'm assuming that the knob is not polymer, given how bitch-like gun owners get when polymer is mentioned.

    • @riflespeed
      @riflespeed  2 роки тому +1

      Hahaha.. I'll admit that I chuckled there. Tool-free adjustment is certainly a big deal. That said, Riflespeed Gas Controls offer many other advantages over previous systems. Our patented Plunger and Plunger Channel are completely smooth and are held to extreme tolerances to mitigate the ability of carbon to build up and cause parts to lock together. Their interface uses the same principle that keeps your AR's gas tube from needing to be cleaned even though it is exposed to carbon fouling every time you pull the trigger. We use materials ranging from high-grade carbon steel (like most AR barrels) to extremely high-grade (and expensive) stainless alloys that resist heat, abrasion, and corrosion. A Nitride finish offers a hardened surface and corrosion resistance. The completely modular nature of your Riflespeed Gas Control lets you configure, service, maintain, assemble and disassemble your system with ease and throughout the life of your carbine and beyond. The modular design also lets you set your Gas Control up exactly as needed. Some shooters want to cut off gas completely and some want to be sure that gas CAN'T be cut off completely. Either is possible by selecting the best Plunger size for your needs and it takes a few seconds to make the swap if your needs change. Thanks for your interest in Riflespeed!

    Use same design and make a piston system, then I see a great reason behind dial.
    Dial is great in theory, but unless you handguard is shorter than the gas hole, then it's not very applicable, in fact it creates issues when adjusting, because you can't reach it.
    Most adjustable gas blocks are easy to adjust with a simple Allen wrench, even when handguards are on.

    Something like that would only really be useful on a combat rifle, but it looks too easily affected by barriers, bush, or gear on your chest rig/vest. And there are way to many settings. FN made their FAL with a similar number of settings, and it could sometimes be a problem. Their later designs were less adjustable, to the point that some of their modern belt feds and rifles are self-regulating with no external controls for the user to adjust gas setting without seeing an armorer.

      Your comment on reduced number of settings on military rifles is a bit of a false equivalency. On a military rifle they know what ammo is being used, what suppressor is being used, buffer weight, bolt weight, etc. They don’t need a lot of settings because they know the application. On a civilian rifle any of those could be different. My competition setup with light weight carrier is going to run drastically different than a suppressed sbr. You need more settings on a civilian application product than a military one with a closer set of perimeters of use.
