    Every 5k for me. Easy math. Lots of offroading and road trips, 20k miles this year on my '23 AT4. As one who rebuilds the first gen Colorado 5cyl motors for owners with lackluster maintenance intervals, an approximate $500 cost difference in oil changes over years prevents thousands more in engine replacement cost. I don't want to find out what the L3B is going to cost to replace.

    2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 with 660 miles now. I ran the Factory Fill oil for 500 miles to allow some break-in period. Then replaced the oil and filter with Amsoil Signature 5w-30 and Purolator Boss filter. I replaced the air filter with K&N drop in filter for now until someone finally releases a CARB approved cold air kit. I think S&B may get their kit's exemption approval next year. Unrelated, I installed a higher quality cabin filter (Carbon and HEPA) as well. I plan to run UOA through Blackstone or Speed labs to determine oil condition and life range at 5500 miles to verify my recurring oil change intervals. Based on my experiences, Amsoil should easily last 7500 miles without concerns and meet the "GM recommended" interval. Because I travel a great deal (rental cars and planes), my annual mileage will be around 8-10k resulting in an oil change every 10 months. At that frequency I am only spending about $100 year for oil, and all 3 filters maintenance. I have prepurchased several filters and oil to last my 1st 3 years (to beat inflation). Solid. Truck seems to love the things installed thus far.

    I’m use wix filters on all my vehicles except the 4runner. I like how easy it is to change the oil on that rig. That suspension setup looks cool-feel free to go further in depth about the set up/features AEV has for it. Just to stir the pot about oil changes-the 4runner gets synthetic every 10k miles-I send a sample to Blackstone every time, and the results always come back good (I do drive 80 highway miles round trip every day, so they are not super hard miles).

    Very useful video. I am surprised how easy that is on the Colorado. It’s as easy as on a late model Jeep Wrangler that I have. My only concern with the method you showed is starting the engine without full oil fill up. I don’t know why that’s done. I haven’t seen this for other engines.

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  3 місяці тому

      It’s very common. You put in the majority (5 qts or so) and then top it off. This way you don’t under or overfill.

    • @advnate
      @advnate 3 місяці тому

      With this being the first oil change I wasn't sure if it will take the full 6qts like the owner's manual stated. Last thing I want to do is overfill it and have to remove some. The next oil change I will put the full 6qts in and then check it.

    If you wanna run the factory Ac Delco filters. Rockauto sells them by the case. 12 for about $60. Wix are probably better quality though.

    I change the oil in My chevy colorado when it’s at 10%. I’ve been told that when when the instrument cluster says “change engine oil soon” that I have about 600 miles until the truck really needs the oil changed. Any thoughts?

    Aren’t the tires directional?

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  25 днів тому

      Most truck tires are not directional. They will be labeled as such if they are. Usually only performance and some snow tires are directional.

    I believe that Lifelong oil has seal conditioners meant for higher mileage engines. Not sure how it will react to lower mile vehicles

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  3 місяці тому

      So… there is a high mileage version but this isn’t it. Also if you read the label on all high mileage oil it states it’s fine for all gasoline engines of any mileage. But by all means… use any decent oil that meets the manufacturer’s specs and you’re fine.

    Costco's Kirkland 5W-30 full synthetic is Dexos approved and only $39.99 for 10 quarts and WalMart has the ACDelco filter for $11.10 -- that's $24/oil and $11/filter + tax or

      @JasonExplainsThings  3 місяці тому

      Awesome tip! Yeah Costco’s oil is reviewed to be excellent. I’ve used it myself before Havoline sent me oil to use. Havoline 5w-30 is $25 for 6 quarts at Walmart. Can’t go wrong either way.

      Oh man! Those sure are fighting words. I have driven the previous model and this one quite a bit and I personally believe the 2023 and newer trucks are better. How much nicer? well, after driving the new one, I bought it.
      The turbo 4 in the 2023 beats both engine choices in the previous model. The diesel was great at fuel milage, but lacked power over 60mph and the 3.6 V6 seemed a bit slow at turning 35s.
      The new truck even comes with 35s from the factory!
