Rouxls Kaard is the Knight - Deltarune Theory

- I forgot to mention it in the video, but this is not my original theory. The original theorist is (I think) JaruJaru from his Knight Theory video. I really like this theory and wanted to add my own thoughts.

While I’m still dubious about him being the roaring knight he is still a character that shouldn’t be underestimated. To me he seems like perfect secret boss material. Rule cards in most decks are useless in most games because you can’t play with them and most people already know the rules. Being a discarded and ignored object is one of the main criteria of the secret bosses. In addition he was the former tutorial guy before the roaring knight put the spade king into power and then spade king made him Duke of puzzles. He is a character with greater ambitions than just being a tutorial guy which sort of places him in a similar boat with spamton, a character who also had greater ambitions than fulfilling the role given to him as a spam email.
Being a discarded object like other secret bosses is something I've never thought about. I've never seen anyone else point out, and is a really cool observation!

Rouxls Kaard also has a voice line, similar to Jevil and Spamton. When you battle him in chapter two, whenever his music goes “Hey!” A text box appears by Rouxls that says exactly that. But that said, he also has a face by his text box when he talks and doesn’t have a unique talking sound, so that is a difference between him and the other secret bosses.
He also has a unique speech pattern and I could see him going insane like the other secret bosses
@@The___Ratwell actually, he was originally intended to have a unique voice sound in chapter 2 but it was removed for unknown reasons, likely to be more consistent with chapter 1 if I had to guess. To me that information points in the direction of Rouxls being far more popular than Toby expected, so rather than being a goofy one off side character his role was greatly expanded as a recurring miniboss/minor antagonist. While that does rule out the possibility of Rouxls being the Knight or one of the final secret bosses, since odds are those two roles have been decided years ago, it does leave him open to be a midgame secret boss. Buuuut more than likely I think the biggest role Rouxls will play is as a potential Snowgrave victim sometime between chapter 4-6.
It is absolutely insane how a joke character makes so much sense being the Knight

you guys have to understand that toby can make plot twists but that doesnt mean EVERY SINGLE PART OF THE LORE will be a plot twist
darkners cannot create dark fountains; we see this through queen. she needs noelle or berdly to create a fountain for her because she can not

another interesting detail about the closing point where rouxls kaard "makes his own rules" the "PS - I make my own Rules"
PS means Post Script, as in something added as an afterthought. afterwards. if he can LITERALLY make the rules and alter reality, who's to say he didn't just retcon reality so that he can make an epic comeback to ralsei? that is totally something rouxls would do too if he had the means.
I've seen that concept thrown around a lot in the fandom and I can't say I'm not a fan. It's just so damn interesting

If anything, Rouxls is being set up to be the biggest bait and switch in final boss history
I personally believe that Toby Fox is the knight. Think about it! Who was the only person we saw in the library computer room in chapter one? The annoying dog.

Eh, I don't think it's really feasible for Rouxls to be the Knight, mainly because...he's a darkner. He can't make fountains, and we know that he doesn't have a lightner SOUL because he reverts to the Rules Card in the LW (A fact we can verify by checking our inventory in the Light World)
That being said, arguing that Rouxls was using the goddamn control crowne on King is actually the best idea ever proposed in Deltarune theory discussion. It is so stupid, it just might work. The only problem is that the Control Crowne is said to only work on "Disc Shaped Lifeformes"
If we're gonna talk about Rouxls being relevant, I'd argue its more likely he's the final Secret Boss. He's a discarded item, has a speaking quirk, is powerful, etc.
Well even so, maybe he have a lot of different crowns for different enemies, and also, is the only darkner who can teleport. So maybe he have some way to make dark fountains.
And even if he isn't the knight he have the right motivation to be the knight.
Roulx wants to serve to the most powerful person, first king, later queen, maybe he will be in other chapters too, serving as a recurring mini boss.
And maybe he wants to bring the Angel's heaven to serve the angel, you know.. the most powerful being.

Additionally, while it's possible he has crowns for multiple types of lifeformes, that seems...rather weird. Why would he introduce it specifically as a thing that only works on Disc-Shaped-Lifeformes? Wouldn't it be more simple, narratively, to just say it's a generic mind control crown?
This all Still doesn't explain how a Darkner would be able to create a fountain- a fact the game tells us outright is impossible.
I feel like if Rouxls is gonna be more relevant than we would generally assume, it'd be as a secret boss. Not as the main antagonist.

honestly, yeah, if darkners could make fountains then the game would probably already be over 😅

He was a minion of King and called LESSER FATHER by him. He was kicked out of the castle by Queen and her minions. Think we got enough proof if he were the knight, he'd have Determination and would be treated with the greatest respect by King or Queen.
Maybe he has a disguise as the knight
Queen never saw the knight, and putting RK in power in the comfey position of duke of puzzles seems like a good reward and show of respect for someone as incompetent as RK.

"the remaining king put him and his strange son into power" could mean that all 4 kings shared the power but the king put him and lancer into total control of the dark world which would be more power than a fourth of it
One thing I noticed, is when the thrash machine blew up, it was completely destroyed. The only way for RK to get it is to go back in time or use DETERMINATION….
This sounded way better in my head

Well, the fight against spantom give us the impression that darkrnerss can steel souls of lightners to travel to the lightworld. So maybe roulx steel someone else's soul to travel between worlds and make dark fountains

@@Megalobert definitely not a sastifying answer but he can apparently teleport. He could've been a rules card from far away and teleported to a place like hometowns classroom. I think a more plausible answer is that RK has existed for a long long time. He's been sitting on his incredible power for ages. There's a prophecy about the roaring, so perhaps he had tried before and failed. He fled and hid, waiting for the opportune time, when a powerful lightner could once again be used.

The thing about the King's crown was absolutely crazy, and I love it
rouxls is my favorite character and this theory is great but theres one detail that pretty much destroys this theory. rouxls couldn't have made the fountains because he becomes an inanimate object as soon as he enters the light world. the fountains would have had to be made from the light world. as well as that, queen would have recognized him as the knight in castle town. but hey i could be wrong, and this theory is definitely founded!
5:28 Maybe Rouxls tricked King into putting on the crown and then once the battle ended, King’s mind control crown fell off. King might have thought that his crown gave him a headache or something like that so he smashed the crown resorting in him having to find his old crown.
Also, the crown only glows blue during the fight. In chapter 2, its white.
Or maybe Rouxls just didn't find any use in using the control crown to control the King. I'd probably bet that the control crown has to be activated so it is possible that Rouxls didn't find any more use in having it activated since he had already succeeded in making the King look like the bad guy. So he ended up deactivating it.🤨
even tho this entire theory is so SMART and i wouldve never think of all this while rewatching and replaying the games over and over, i really hope roulxs wont turn out a villian. true, it would shock people and it would be a nice plottwist, but i myself just see him as a egoistic man who has the style and cares for lancer while pretending not to. hes a very sweet character and making him villianous would really change that. also, as i saw in an another comment, while we saw kris stab the ground in chapter 2 and make another dark fountain, this pretty much contradics this. but thats just one thing, and the entire theory and arguments make a LOT of sense. but again, thats just a theory, a game theory!!
(edit) i rewatched the final gameplay episode in jackstepticeye channel of chapter 2 and the queen said ANYBODY could make a fountain if they were determined enough. even berdly was about to stab the ground to create a new one. so with that information its even more possible for roulxs to be the knight, since anybody could do that lol
Queen specifically says it's a power that *lightners* have. That's...kinda why she needs Noelle. That's the crux of her whole plan. Darkners do not have Determination and thus cannot create Fountains.
Also, Rouxls...is a villian. He's a miniboss for hire!

@@felekzelek It's worth remembering that Rouxls is still in your inventory as of the end of Chapter 2- he re-enters when you get to Castle Town, and he remains there.
So he's at least in chapter 3!

I do find this to be a fun theory even if I'm not entirely convinced. Too much of this is set up perfectly to be a coincidence. I think it's worth considering he may be an intentional red herring to the mystery of who the knight is. Another intriguing thing about him is how long he is able to last outside of his original dark world before turning to stone. Lancer only lasts a few scenes after Kris takes his card out of their pocket. Meanwhile, Rouxls jumped out of Kris' pocket at the very start of entering the Cyber World, and was running around making plans and getting the Thrash machine built seemingly with no ill effect on him being outside the Card Kingdom. Also how he turns to stone except for his head is suspicious, as if he did it to himself because that's just what is "supposed" to happen to darkners outside their own dark worlds, like he is acting essentially. Why he completely turns offscreen during a snowgrave route, I have no idea though.
That part just makes it EVEN MORE Suspicious He specifically only has a head left in the normal route yet it is only when a being as powerful as SPAMTON NEO is in control that he is fully turned into stone.
Finally a rules card fan we're like 1 in 1000
This definitely proves that Rouxls Kaard is powerful, but I don't really think he's the knight. After all, he's still a darkner.
I don't buy it but this could definitely lead to some angst with Lancer and Roulxs
Perhaps in chapter 7 there's a parallel to when lancers father was gonna throw him off the roof but with the Knight/roulxs insted of the king
Or maybe after the big reveal susie comforting lancer about everything
This is a conspiracy theory that has way too much evidence and coincedences for me to sleep at night. Like seriously, RK?! same initials as the Roaring Knight?! The fact that he looks similar to gaster, his 'recent' appointment as the duke of puzzles alligning with Seam's accounts of the Knight. WHY DOES THIS ADD UP?!
In all seriousness, this is a great theory. I doubt it's true since I think Papyrus is the Knight, (Trust me, think about it long and hard and it will make too much sense) but have a great day. >;3
Also, rk has some similarities between sans, papyrus, and faster. Not convinced?

Rk is also inept at making puzzles, and he gets turned into stone from the feet until the head, similar to papyrus body turning to dust first before dying in undertale.

i love this theory, but when i first saw the title of the video i laughed so hard. it makes sense after you hear this,
this make so much sense as well.....i had my suspicions on Seam because i just made the referance as 7 shadow crystals, 7 human souls but, this does make a LOT of sense and I can definetly see how he does seem to be vaguely different from other monsters.
Also if Roulx really was the Roaring Knight for the Roaring Titans, he wouldn't try to become subservient to king and queen, since he would be all set with the roaring knight job

There are just a few things in this theory that can be proven wrong, here is a list of them
1. 4:25 , the control crown only works on “Disc-shaped life forms” and I’m pretty sure king spade is obese, not disc-shaped.
2. 4:32 , king spade most likely has rage issues, so he probably had a fight with someone trying to stop him in the throne room.
3. 5:01 , he calls everyone a little pumpkin as a terrible insult, like how he called Susie one when she used the pacify spell on him, also he seems to be pretty much a gaslighter so it’s not unlikely of him to lie his way out of jail.
4. 4:49 , most likely lighting and the crown covering his face, but I could be wrong on this
5. 6:41 , this GIF is hilarious, literally all I can say

I doubt he’s the knight but there is hopefully more to him
I don’t think he’s gonna be the knight, considering he is an inanimate card in the light world, but he HAS to be important in some way. Personally I think he will either be the final secret boss or the final boss in the weird route

While Rouxls Kaard might not be the Roaring Knight, I am pretty damn sure he will be a red herring at some point, where for example we get a threatening note signed from RK - the heroes think it's the Roaring Knight, but actually it's Rouxls Kaard, whom everyone forgot went with them to that Dark World.
Alternatively (or maybe additionally), since Rouxls is set up as having some grand power we don't know, maybe there will be a point in a future chapter where in a pacifist run we would play another wacky game with Rouxls, but if we do the weird route we have to actually FIGHT him, and he turns out to be a super difficult boss or something.
The possibilities with this guy are endless

It does make sense the moment you realize the fiction doesn't work the same as real life.
That kinda doesn't make sense because rouxls isn't a lightner and there is a 95% chance that the knight is a lightner but here is the twist... what if rouxls kaard isn't actually a darkner or a lightner either.... what if he's something else.. what if he's way stronger then we think and he was hiding his power all along and he's lying to everyone about his weakness... i mean look at him look at how strong he looks and how he's wearing an armor and look at his color scheme neither a darkner or a lightner look like that, he looks so different from everybody, so that is all im gonna say i just think that rouxls kaard isn't a darkner or a lightner either i think he is powerful than anyone else, making him the knight.
Imagine in chapter 3 we get a sans-style fight against roulxs for snowgrave players
Kris is the roaring knight. In chapter 1, he gained control of himself and after holding a knife, it cut. In the beginning of chapter 2, there's suddenly a dark world in the library.
Also, in the end of chapter 2, after gaining control again, he makes a dark fountain in the living room COMPLETELY SHOWN
and who is the roaring knight? The one making the fountains.
Also, Rouxls is a darkener, so he can't have made the fountains.
Well, that ignores the fact that Kris definitely couldn't have been the one to make the library fountain. And a host of other things that just don't add up. Kris is most definitely just a red herring
