Ahhh - my NDyak fix for the week! Thank you, Matt - you're always a welcome sight to these old sore eyes! At 82, I get out maybe once or twice a year, but do my main fishing mostly vicariously through your videos!
I'm 72 and a chemotherapy patient. Every strike on this video reminds me of a fish that has rocked my topwater lures, and I feel the feelings at my core.
I love watching your content!! To me you are like the Bob Ross of UA-cam fishing!😂 listening to your info and insight on what to look for when casting into a spot. I do enjoy watching your shows!! Thanks!
i think my painting needs a little muskie right here your painting may be a little different,,,whatever suits you its ok whatever makes you happy or even if you don't want a fish in your painting you do what makes you happy
You have a way of bringing all the great things we love about nature and the great pastime of fishing together. You are blessed to live near that beautiful diverse water system and you seem to deeply appreciate it too, thank you for sharing it with us.
I probably should comment more. Wow, just wow! What a beautiful fish! I sure appreciate your channel. I've not been fishing in about 14 years and miss it, but I got back into nature photography and I like that more. Thank you again -- your videos are well done and incredible!
Hey Matt, that Muskie was awesome!! Itching to get back in the kayak. Might hit the Wis. river tomorrow as the temps will hit the 50’s!! Even tho today it’s 25 with a dusting of snow!! Wish me luck!!
Man I can't wait till it warms up , love to here all the sounds and everything in bloom. Thanks for everything dude, really my guy..... Goin in to my 5th year on the yak and I ain't looking back. Here is to a good year full of giant toads.
My favorite part of the world. A beautiful spot, I can just smell the fresh air, with maybe a tiny whiff of something Ag. Looks like, feels like, sounds like, smells like home.
He was recently posting some winter and late fall videos so it's likely just extra summer content he's been keeping around to get through the slow winter season until the bite starts up again.
The first smallie I ever caught on a plopper came years ago on a 130 I was chucking around for Musk. Just a little guy. Might have been 12" at best. But when they're hungry, those beautiful brown bassfish will eat!
Matt, I don't know how your heart takes those big blow-ups. A buddy of mine caught a really nice musky a few weeks ago here in east Tennessee. We have one river close by that holds a nice population of them, I need to give it a try.
I just can't get over how green, lush and warm North Dakota is in February. I may have to cancel my spring break trip to Cancun and reroute to Bismark, lol. 😂 Cool vid and thanks for sharing.
Amazing creature, that muskie. I recently learned they used to be plentiful here in western North Carolina (as well as sturgeon!). I can barely comprehend fighting and landing one of these in a river from a kayak.
I’m pretty comfortable fishing them from my kayak on this river where I know they’re all only 8-9 years old now and top out around 40”. They get much bigger though and I’m not sure how I’d handle a 50”+ out of my kayak!
Awesome. I have a couple of 'creeks' in my area that are full of these big pike that no one ever tries to catch. Of course, there are the crazy little hammer handles, but there are some big girls too.
Wow Matt-excellent content. The adrenaline rush you spoke of at 10.01 combined with the look on your face afterwards, is going to get you a sponsorship with either: "River2Sea and Whopper Plopper" or "The Kimberly-Clark Corporation and Depends" or both. I'm hoping for River2Sea myself. 😂 Great video as always. God bless.
I think you heard all the woos and wow's i screamed all the way from Orlando Fla!!! We have Pickerels down here fun to catch but your fight was epic!!!!
Haven't seen this one love the way you stay so calm when you hook into musky there's a lot of high pitched (conversations) on my boat buy the way do you believe in the majors and minors and witch one do you think is better
Absolutely! I’m pretty sure that 30 min of action I had was during a peak time. My favorite one to be on the water for is the major time when the moon is right above, I almost always have good fishing around that peak time. I also find if the moon is up I seem to do better. If I look at the lunar chart and see the moon rises at noon I’m probably going to sleep in and hit the afternoon/evening bite.
I would have probably caught another fish or two throwing something sub surface but I enjoy catching fish on topwater so I’ll usually pick a lure and stick with it. Loud aggressive lures like the Plopper are always good for pike and muskie!
I wish I could be taken on as your apprentice, you always make catching Muskees so easy and I've only had one fight against one at my nearby lake that I call "The Lake Legend" for years. even has a whited eye too.
Try the Gamakatsu G-Finesse hooks on your Plopper and a ball bearing snap swivel hooked to the lure tie, better hook up ratio with the hooks and your line won't twist with the ball bearing swivel tied to the front. You are the purest fisherman on the net.
I’ve always been taught when you throw a topwater lure , let it sit and the rings settle , before retrieving . But it seems like the old cast and retrieve works too
Wife says he sounds like Bob Ross. She would like to know if you keep any fish to eat, or you release all fish you catch. We always enjoy your videos. We live in Las Vegas and wish we had fishing water like you have.
I’ll keep some fish every now and then, not really when it’s hot out and I have an hour or two drive home though. I like to bring home a few crappie when it’s colder out.
Hi I watch most of your ND fishing videos because I am a ND fisherman myself and I am wondering what river do you fish for small mouth. Keep up the good work and the great videos I love them.
I tried the 190 once out of my kayak a few years back. The tough thing about any lure that big are the massive hooks that come with them, it takes a serious hook set to stick a fish. It’s really tough to put that much power into a hook set fishing from a kayak. A lot of that force is absorbed by the small craft getting pulled toward the fish. It happened with the biggest pike I’ve ever hooked into but I was fishing a huge jerk bait looking thing with some massive hooks and I don’t think they went in past the barb. I got a good look at the fish as it shook my lure next to the kayak.
can you try to fish with a pig shad Motoroil Pike. that luer holds my pike pb 9kg/ 19pounds and 115cm/45 inches. i live in sweden so sory if i cant spell so god. nice video👍
That was a beautiful Musky... I fish Lake St Clair in Michigan for Musky, they grow big over here and for me lately they are elusive, there are a bunch of them in the 50"+ range. I hope to be able to hook into a few this year. I also have a Victory rod, however, it's the 7'4" HF, paired with a Daiwa Tatula 200HS 7.3:1... I mostly use it for Froggin... My Musky casting rods are Mojo Musky 8'6" and 8' XHF and HF with Daiwa Lexa HD's, 400 and 300... Love my Daiwa reels and St Croix rods... Tight Lines!!
It really is a warm weather lure. This is old footage, late May through September is when the pike hit topwater here. Spring time a week or two after they spawn they seem to go on a feeding frenzy and smash topwater lures.
Are they still stocking the river? Unless Iv'e missed it, seems like most of the musky are all about the same size. You would like to see some small ones in the system.
Could you add in the temperature and weather forecast from when the recording was made? I'm still trying to understand how people know which bait to use when?
This guy and The Ginger Fisherman are absolute legends at lure fishing
Man, I DREAM of a crossover vid! Imagine Matt and Chris getting into some huge canal pike together.
@@CatchReleaseRepeat kayaking down the canal together! 🤣🤣
I’m deadly with top water lures too💯
lol why does everyone and their mother have a fishing channel now...@@MrJaxnbeFishing
I'm a ginger and a fisherman 😉
The Bob Ross of fishing! A true legend!
lol
I've called him the Lock Picking Lawyer of Fishing😂 but Bob Ross fits too
Can't ask for a better guy to be compared to even if Bob wasn't a fisherman as far as i know .
Beat me to my thoughts actually! The Bob Ross of fishing!
Except the noise of that reel, hits my bones 😅
Ahhh - my NDyak fix for the week! Thank you, Matt - you're always a welcome sight to these old sore eyes! At 82, I get out maybe once or twice a year, but do my main fishing mostly vicariously through your videos!

the sound of birds, water and whopper ploppers really make me long for spring!
I'm just happy he saved this video for February. I needed a fish fix.
Your casting accuracy just amazes me.
After thousands casts it comes naturally if you have that "something" for it ;)
That muskie spun your kayak around like you had a trolling motor on high. Awsome video sir.
Beautiful day is right!! Thanks for reminding us what summer looks like. Just woke up to a new 2 inch snowfall!
Man, quit making me miss those beautiful spring and summer days out on the prairie!
I love watching your content!! To me you are like the Bob Ross of UA-cam fishing!😂 listening to your info and insight on what to look for when casting into a spot. I do enjoy watching your shows!! Thanks!

Thank you again -- your videos are well done and incredible!
Just getting out and enjoying the outdoors is half of the fun of fishing for me!
Mid summer nice saved gem.👍
Be glad when you are back in daily action.
Great pike and mussk action
You're getting me all excited for this year: getting myself a new kayak and I plan on fishing that stretch for sure. Keep up the good work Matt.
A good day for sure, thanks for taken us along.
Lovely fish, thanks for taking us along.
Thanks, Matt, that was an exciting trek for a nice muskie, pike and some smallies! Take care and be safe!
Thanks my friend. Being ass end of February, you got me looking forward to Spring on my own stretch of river. Pike and muskie are also my passion.
Thanks for taking us along. look like a great time on the river! thanks for sharing
Nicely done as usual sir! Thanks for taking us along Matt!
Great idea filming a lot in spring and summer, that way you can still put out content through your rough winters Matt. 🙏🙌
Once again the Whopper Plopper did a good job on getting some nice fish 🎣. Thank you sir.
Gorgeous country and stream, you're very fortunate to live by that. Fishing by me is not the best but I still go out. Thanks!
Hey Matt, that Muskie was awesome!! Itching to get back in the kayak. Might hit the Wis. river tomorrow as the temps will hit the 50’s!! Even tho today it’s 25 with a dusting of snow!! Wish me luck!!
I love how this guy just gets hella top water bites every where no matter the time of year lol bravo sir!
Seeing these nice warm, geeen, top water vids. Makes me impatient for spring and summer
I'm ready for spring... Crappie, lmb, white bass, and gar will all start their spawn or prespawn in my part of Kansas within the next couple weeks.
Man I can't wait till it warms up , love to here all the sounds and everything in bloom. Thanks for everything dude, really my guy..... Goin in to my 5th year on the yak and I ain't looking back. Here is to a good year full of giant toads.
Really enjoy your content. Used to fish rivers in southern MN. but no muskies. You bring back great memories for this old retired angler. Rock on !!!
I love the Action this guy gets! These monsters put up such a good fight! Some of my favorite!
My favorite part of the world. A beautiful spot, I can just smell the fresh air, with maybe a tiny whiff of something Ag. Looks like, feels like, sounds like, smells like home.
It’s still dipping down in the 30’s and 40’s here in Chattanooga Tennessee. How is it that green and gorgeous in North Dakota?
I’m in the Chattanooga area as well! You got a yak?
It's probably a video he made from last year is my guess.
He was recently posting some winter and late fall videos so it's likely just extra summer content he's been keeping around to get through the slow winter season until the bite starts up again.
He mentioned in the video that is mid summer
@@aeonx_LRthat's pretty smart of him
I love this style of content, pike and muskky are my favorite too
I cant believe the conditions for February Holy cow!!!! Great fish. The pike bite has been fire here for the last week. TIGHT LINES!!💪
That big muskellunge makes a pike look friendly!
Your videos are always on point! Those places you fish are awesome, and productive.
I'm love living in ND. River fishing is always secluded.
Even if I didn't catch anything, being on that river looks like it is so peaceful. Love the videos!
The first smallie I ever caught on a plopper came years ago on a 130 I was chucking around for Musk. Just a little guy. Might have been 12" at best. But when they're hungry, those beautiful brown bassfish will eat!
We will be completely ice off by next week at my local fishery. Cannot wait for plopper season!

He said earlier that it is mid summer
@@Powerpickle68 I know, that's what the "lol" was for, It's lighthearted, obvious sarcasm.
Bro, i contine to love your Channel! So relaxing and yet exciting at the same time! The accuracy of your casting is remarkable! Well done Sir!
I really like watching this guy. Mainly because he doesn't stag the fish.
Another great float trip with Matt in kayak. Hard to put down the Plopper when they're killing it. Blessings brother

Absolutely top 3 fishing channel
After watching this video I have a serious itch to take my kayak down a river and throw a whopper popper. Pure fun.
I can't believe how whatever lure your throwing is what the fish are bitting on, how do you do that? Thanks for sharing, good stuff as always!!!
I would have probably caught another fish or two throwing something sub surface but I enjoy catching fish on topwater so I’ll usually pick a lure and stick with it. Loud aggressive lures like the Plopper are always good for pike and muskie!

Man! I can’t wait to get back out and get some top water action. Love your channel
Another great vids. We would love to see you target more muskies in the future. Thxs. Great job. Cheers

Just my opinion, but one of the best original UA-cam fishermen out there. Needs sponsored by someone.
Thank You Larry Dahlberg and River 2 Sea for making the Legendary Whopper Plopper!
