  • Paleontologists love Ammonites. Not just because theyre really cool. Ammonite shells come in so many different shapes, sizes and beautiful patterns. They were once worn by slimey, wiggly monsters that roamed the oceans of dinosaur times. But theres something else at play here, something that makes ammonites very helpful indeed. I can only hope the algorithm will help your channel grow now.

    They really are amazing. I was out for a walk with one of my friends the other month and we found an imprint of one in a cliff that had recently tumbled.
    We got pictures but my camera sucks and nobody could tell what they were out of

      That's a shame. I'm currently planning a trip to dig for ammonite fossils. I can't imagine just finding one by accident lol

      @@Paleofactus just as amazing as that I was out on the Navajo reservation near the famous landmark known as Shiprock and I found a rock on a trail that looks like it has small theropod footprints.
      I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who's ever noticed, people ride horses and drive ATVs over it

    🌟 Wow, this video was absolutely fascinating! 🌟 Thank you for sharing so many incredible facts about ammonites! 🐚✨ The history, the science, and the beauty of these ancient creatures are truly mind-blowing. 🙌
    🧐Considering the incredible preservation of soft tissues in ammonite fossils, what do you think the chances are of discovering more detailed fossils that could reveal even more about their anatomy and lifestyle? 🤔
    Thanks again for this awesome video! 📽👏

    Ok question: what about ammonite sexual dimorphism? Because according to the Paleo-stream, female ammonites are 20 times bigger than the males.

    • @Paleofactus
      @Paleofactus  10 місяців тому

      Completely forgot to mention this in the video but yeah, that's really interesting. Thanks for bringing this up! I've read a couple sources that say the females were bigger to allow for egg production.

    • @t-r-e-x452
      @t-r-e-x452 10 місяців тому

      Makes sense. This does make me wonder if males are basically paedomorphic, stuck in their larval stage.

    • @Paleofactus
      @Paleofactus  10 місяців тому

      @@t-r-e-x452 that's an interesting idea. I don't know much about that topic. Nautili don't exhibit paedomorphosis but I guess it could be possible
