    Rick how about getting an higher handicap player to do tests, say a 20 handicaper or above.

    Rick Shiels PGA Golf Professional Manchester I have to give my opinion here since I have experience on the G30. 1st the turbulators are explained by Ping to deliver minimum difference for slower swing speeds, but still the point for them is to help the larger more forgiving head to go as fast as the competition. And to the feel, I am a 13 hcp player but have about 110mph driver SS, and agree with the tester, there is not much feel in this head. But it also has to do with the shaft, the 419 counterbalance shaft makes the head feel better and is easy to swinng with nice tempo, but the tour shaft makes the spin go down. I have the Tour S 65 in my G30 but will try to find the 419 X for demo and see if it still has the better feel and ease of swing but lower spin.. I suggest you let your tester try the blue 419 regular shaft in the G30, could be the best fit for him.

      I would suggest trying the x shaft for sure. I'm a scratch golfer and I have a 115 mph club head speed. I threw both shafts in and didn't see much difference in distance but the dispersion was a lot tighter with the x shaft. I would definitely look into with your local ping fitter

    I went from 9.5 callaway stiff shaft xhot driver where my longest drives except the odd freak 300yrd went about 260 - 280 total, to g30 10.5 reg shaft and now hit 280 -320. But the distance wasn't the reason I changed, the forgiveness and ease of use of the g30 is in a different league. My scores have improved since the new driver and it without doubt my strongest club. The added distance was a bonus and unexpected, but the big win in the number of fairways I find myself in. Love it

      I must admit buddy, the Callaway X2 HOT has made me VERY wayward this season. Ok, it's the nugget hitting it that is ultimately to blame, but is dispersion is all over.

      It's a broomstick if you catch it right but had me in all sorts of trouble. Saying that my scrambling is awesome because of it, and seeing as like me ur from chorley, you will know perhaps know leyland GC and shaw hill where I've played, not much room for wayward.

    I got fittet for Ping G30 yesterday, and I loved the feel of the driver. The Ping guy told me that the turbulators give up to 2% more clubhead speed, so dont think of them too much guys 😉. But it looks great 😄

    For what it's worth..... I recently bought a G30 with the Tour 65 shaft, similar to what Rob was using, but regular flex. I could not hit a good shot! Feeling definitely was like a board. Bought a TFC419 on eBay at 44" with G30 tip, regular flex. Dropped it in. In practice today, I could feel the flex and the head much better (even better after I added 6 grams of lead tape on the sole near the heel and shaft). Face contact was very consistent (I use indicator tape). Swing speed was up a bit ( 90 vs 86 avgs), but the carry improvement of 25 yards or so was from the much more consistent strike in the sweet spot. Went back to my Aeroburner for 10 hits. Shorter and inconsistent strike. Back to G30, back to great results.
    I'm definitely sold. I seem to hit more consistently when I can feel the head very strongly. This shaft (and the added head weight) made all the difference for me.

    Interesting how he felt about the G30...I'm a scratch golfer and I'm absolutely in love with this club. The feel is a bit solid like he said but I couldn't get over the distance and accuracy it was bringing. The first round I ever used it I hit 12 of 14 fairways and every round after that has been just as good.

  • @PkGam

    I had a feeling there wouldn't be much of a swing speed increase with the turbulators. I mean with USGA regulations and all, there's only so much clubmakers can do with each iteration to maximize the performance of clubs. Like irons for instance aren't necessarily getting longer than previous models, manufacturers are just de-lofting. Today's "new" gap/approach wedge is about the same loft as the pitching wedges made many years back for instance.
    As for the G30 itself, I tried a rental 3 wood and I personally didn't like using it. It was too light. So light I couldn't really feel out where the head was as it felt like I was swinging a stick with no head on it. But I know it's a personal preference thing so I wouldn't say not to use it. It's more about finding what you like by trying everything you can.

    Rick & Rob; truly enjoy your videos and sorry to hear Rob had an accident that had any negative results on his golf game. Since I broke my neck and deal with paralysis, I can empathize and am impressed with his game! Couple thoughts,-- Appears the length of his driver is possibly to long for him? Regardless of fittings, average driver length on the PGA tour is 44.5 inches. That G30 looks like 46" to 47" ? Could a slightly shorter driver possibly help his overall performance? Keep up the great work and Cheers~William ⛳️

I WENT TO TRY SOME PINGS AND WAS TALKED INTO SOME PING G25 IRONS YELLOW DOT , THEY LOOKED GOOD BUT WHEN I BOUGHT THEM COULD I HIT THEM WELL I COULD NOT HIT THE GREEN LET ALONE FIND THE PIN , I WAS A 14 HANDICAP AT THE TIME WHICH ROSE IN ONE SEASON TO 19.5 ,20 I WOULD GO SO FAR AS TO SAY HITTING A BARN DOOR FROM 150 YARDS WELL LETS SAY I MISSED.

    Could it be the tour shaft that makes it feel like hitting a brick?
    I'm curious why you did not use the standard TFC419D shaft?
    Do you think the shorter length shaft of the Mizuno is giving him better numbers? Possibly more consistent in hitting the sweet spot?

    • @robpottergolf
      @robpottergolf 9 років тому +1

      The shaft was the only one he had for it mate.
      I genuinely think the feel wouldn't have changed, regardless. The club head would still be made of the same composite materials. But who knows.

    • @JAG1651
      @JAG1651 9 років тому

      Robert Potter That's an interesting point Rob. Many people have said that just a shaft change can actually make the feel off the head to feel a little different. It's very subjective, but it's quite a common phenomena. Just a point of interest.

    • @robpottergolf
      @robpottergolf 9 років тому

      If I remember with the Callaway Big Bertha test I hit them in Graphite and Steel shaft and feel was the same.

    • @JAG1651
      @JAG1651 9 років тому

      Robert Potter But just because one is graphite and one is steel, does not absolutely guarantee a different 'feel' for you personally from the Club head. Sometimes it only takes a different flex or different bend profile of shaft to do that. Of course, there are occasions too, that to one person, the 'feel' off the head is exactly the same with any combination. It's just pot luck and subjective to us all I'm afraid. And if the G30 is in your head to not be right, it is very unlikely to ever work for you regardless. We're can all be like that I'm afraid.

      @emac417 9 років тому

      When I tried out the ping g20 driver I hit the reg flex tour. And to me it felt like hitting bricks. I than hit the standard reg flex ping shaft and that made a big difference. It felt alot smoother/softer feeling. of course thats just how it worked for me. everyone is different.

    No surprise that the turbulators don't do much to help Rob's swing speed. They are designed to reduce aerodynamic drag by reducing the size of the low pressure region behind the club, in a similar way that dimples on the golf ball work. But at lower swing speeds, Rob isn't as affected by drag as someone who swings faster, so there's less benefit to him of reducing that drag.

  • @a2audrey
    @a2audrey 9 років тому

    I have a bit more average club head speed than Rob, 95mph. I switched to the G30 and was fitted to a dialed down loft @ 9.0 degrees. I had been using an older R11 driver @ 11.5...
    I recently played 10 rounds on a golf vacation. While it does have a bit of a block-like feel, I was getting a lot less spin and maybe 10-15 of additional distance, carrying to about 225 vs. 220, so it's in the roll...
    But, I think it's the forgiveness that will make me love it. My misses with the R11 often brought me down under 200 while I was very consistent with the G30.
    We'll see in the spring if it was me or the club.

    I have recently been watching your videos quite a lot, That fellow there hitting is fantastic especially since he has a Handicap! It's not like all these other videos where the person hitting is a pro. I like you're videos a lot! I am curious if you could possibly let me know what that club is beside the blue one closest to the camera, The one that looks like it has a giant club head! if you could please let me know asap I would greatly appreciate it! I'm looking to get a new driver before I start golfing this season. Thanks.

    Hmmmmm very interesting, this really is the value of this sort of testing. Of all these drivers, based on other reviews i have seen, its a non-contest, I would buy the Ping G30. Its a gorgeous club. Do I think the turbulators do anything ha ha ha. I really love the mat black finish and the simplicity of the club. I dont give a toss about the numbers, they are all good clubs. But, suddenly here we have the snag, FEEL. Rob says its like hitting a brick, havent been told that before, suddenly we have something valuable to consider, would I actually like hitting this club. Great stuff you two :-)

    • @robpottergolf
      @robpottergolf 9 років тому

      Thanks Vici. As always your opinion is welcomed.
      I was really excited to hit this. I LOVE the look of this club, as I said in another reply it's "Stealth, with a hint of Ninja". Very straight but felt strange and disappointing, same with its sound. Now some folks have said the shaft could be an influence, but I'm not sure.
      Now Ping are for me are in the Top 3 for custom fitting, if they could find that extra lil tweek I may need to (1) prove the Turbulator claim & (2) help the sound & feel then who knows.

    • @vicibox
      @vicibox 9 років тому

      Robert Potter
      Well Robert, I wouldnt bother looking very far into the turbulators, see them as a bit of fun. These are all top clubs from the best manufacturers, only the credulous would think that one will be much better than the others. I cant believe its the shaft, that wouldnt manifest itself as "feels like a brick", that sounds more like the strike face to me. Perhaps it is less flexy than the others or maybe there is a casting fault on that head (try another head), maybe that weight thing in the bottom wasnt fully home. Sound is a major part of feel. Whatever, the trackman numbers game is fun but i wouldnt place my faith in those. I would pick the club that you liked the look and feel of best, the one that made you feel good and, fit it with the right stock shaft for your swing power (unless its design is something you like, I cant see the point in fancy shafts, spend the extra on the driver head). When you stand on that first tee box the numbers wont help you, how you feel will be the biggest decider of outcome. If you feel a million dollars you will play your best. Though ask yourself the question, are any of these significantly better than your SLDR hmmmm ;-)

    • @robpottergolf
      @robpottergolf 9 років тому

      Well yeah, atleast 3 of them are better than that SLDR'S'

    • @vicibox
      @vicibox 9 років тому

      he he well i cant say i am that surprised, people rushed off to buy SLDR with the promise of distance in their glazed eyes but, many of the reviewers now say the club wasnt very forgiving. After all its one thing for a tour pro to hit an unforgiving club and quite another for a handicap player. By all accounts the R15 seems to have addressed that problem very successfuly. You or Rick are not going to tell us which is teh best club as its a very personal choice i think and everybody will choose their favourite. I have to say that for me it would be the G30 unless that feel upsets me. However, none of these clubs tempts me enough to replace my Nike Covert, even the Nike Vapor fails that test :-)

    • @robpottergolf
      @robpottergolf 9 років тому

      The 16° SLDR 'S' I currently use is excellent for accuracy and leading up to this test, was the longest i'd been hitting for 8 years . So I gotta give it to TaylorMade, they have produced a great club there
