If you play in a tournament then by all means call other people out for cheating, if you are playing for yourself or with a few of your friends who gives a crap what we do on the golf course. I'm not going to care if my buddy foot wedges a ball a foot or 2 to a better lie. I'm not playing against him, I'm playing against myself and the course.

If I pipe my drive down the middle and it comes to rest in some a-hole's divot that he/she didn't fix, I'm moving my ball backwards (not closer to the hole) so I can have a fair shot. I'm not being penalized for hitting the fairway. Same goes for a dirt patch in the fairway or a puddle. F that. Then someone else joined from that club, and he knew John. He was shocked when he learnt that John had claimed to be an18 hcp. because he knew he was a 13 hcp.He 'phoned a few pals to double check and they all said he was a 13 hcp.

@Truth Well, if it was on a par 3, that would be feasible: one shot to the fairway (score = 1), another one to the water (score += 2 = 3) and the 3 they putted, ending up with 6.

One of my buddies does that. On a par 5 you heard him shooting trees a few times and in the woods the whole time, but finally got to the green and he would yell "par" shot. Also he grounded his club in the bunker to get mostly good shots until recently when we gave him a subtle refresher. Also he rarely lost balls, but rather found most of them. Over a decade of plays he only got beat a half dozen of times. We know how good he is, he never seem to get over his driver the whole time. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

Sad thing is he was one of the better players on the team and didn’t need the extra help and practice rounds were just for bragging rights anyways. I never witnessed him doing any of it in High School Tournaments but we did have a local summer league for ages 17 and under and you had to keep a close eye on him during that and I hear nowadays guys in the regular money matches have to keep a close eye on him around the greens. Again, this is a very talented player who owns the course record with a completely legit 59. Blows my mind.

Golfing with certain people sheds a lot of light on their character. I play with people I work with, and if I were to see this kind of behavior, the information it gives me about them is priceless off the course. If I can't trust them at golf, would I trust them with other matters?Honesty and integrity are important characteristics of a person, and if someone is cheating at golf, he or she clearly lacks both. The taking a practice swing right behind the ball (while facing perpendicular to the shot) in an effort to clear some rough from behind the ball is another one I saw a lot. They pretend they're looking for other people in the foursome but really they're just cheating. Fluffing a ball sitting low in the rough is common. Ground under repair drop, doing it incorrectly or doing it even when it's clearly not or was marked months ago but has since been repaired. LOL There are a bunch.

I used to hack around in the Summer with a few mates and there was one that took cheating to a new level. He would drive the ball way to the right and miraculously his ball would turn up 30 yards to the left of where he hit it. He would never lose a ball. On one occasion we found his original ball on the way back playing on a parallel hole. We didn't take the game very seriously but he was clearly taking us for mugs. We didn't bother playing much after that. He used to cheat at squash too.
In my experience people who shamelessly cheat like this will be untrustworthy in other aspects of life. The same fella ran his own financial services company for a while and had to close it owing money left right and centre.

OMG!!! One of the best videos you have posted and I’ve seen on UA-cam, I couldn’t stop laughing at the “planting the ball 24hrs before” Oh here I am, wtf I heard it hit a house or a person” OMG I’m in tears

I can't imagine playing with someone so competitive that they would stoop to these tactics. My little group of casual players are actually fairly casual with some of the rules, like adjusting their lie a smidge to avoid rock shots or roots. It's just not that big a deal for us. But these tactics are just over the top.

I played with someone that would hit his ball into the woods (deep) and would always find it. One time he tried that and got caught when his ball actually came out of the woods and into a green side bunker. The “quote” found ball he played was hidden in his towel and dropped near the woods. Being savvy I went into the bunker and picked up his first ball. He continued playing that way for years but we knew about it so we would help him find his ball most of the time. He never learned that we caught him cheating, but we remain friends to this day 45 years later.

Why would you remain friends with him? If I caught my best friend cheating I'd call him out for sure... give him a good ribbing for being a loser, and if he kept doing it I would just tell him not to bother telling me his score. Then I'd probably stop hanging out with him.

Geezer I played with once was throwing his ball out of the bunker when he thought I wasn't looking. Schmuck!

Seen some of the things you've shown at my local golf course and one I know guys do is they register the wrong score for the games they play and the reason behind it is when they play in tournaments they get place in higher handicap class and beat the guys that actually belong in that class. It's very dishonest of them.

The odds of beating your handicap by more than a few strokes is very high and should be suspect.

Yeah! I know a few SandBaggers like that! I don't really understand their motivation? For me, my goal above all else, is to have the lowest handicap at my course. I'm a 5/6 now and the best is a 4 Hdcp. My goal is to get below that 4! There's 1 particular individual at my course, and he's in the top 10 best, but in league play, he'll always hit 1 or 2 out of bounds on #9, to keep his league hdcp up. I'll take Mr.Shortgames advice next season and get in his head a bit by alluding to the fact that I am on to him.

Steve Lemieux , cheats end up with a handicap they can’t play to.

Yep...in Texas...we call it "sandbagging"....turn in much higher scores than they really shot. Then when the big tournaments come around..these guys who are really 5 or 6 handicappers are playing in the 4th flight...for guys with an 18 and over handicap. Then..they have two of the greatest rounds of their life...so when all the other guys are within 2 to 3 shots of their handicap....they shoot a gross 77....and with their 20 handicap...their net score is a 57. Yeah... it's happened in tournament or two I have played in...and you know they are sandbagging.

@@larryd4352 There are a couple guys that always win the annual best ball tournament at my home course. If one of them hits it close the other mishits it badly and takes a high score. Pads the handicap nicely. But I don't care, I just avoid them. I don't like people cheating.

I’m not so sure the sand on the club face is clever. One oversized pebble on the club face is more likely to hurt you than help you.
