- www.premierguit... - PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at Line 6 headquarters in Calabasas, CA for the first demo of their new flagship amplifier, the DT50. The DT50 is a collaboration with Reinhold Bogner that features two channels that can be switched between four amp voicings, Class A or Class A/B, and Pentode or Triode. The amp integrates Bogner's EL34 tube power section with Line 6's new HD amp modeling and Line 6 LINK technology.
Don't listen to this guys voice on headphones, before you know it he'll have hypnotised you to buy Line 6.
Too late, I bought one
odgeUK Lololol
Best ASMR video on guitar UA-cam.
Still using this amp with Krank 4x12 cab and Pod HD 500. Loving it. And the ability to just pull the volume knob and make it neighborhood friendly is a true bonus!
How does it compare to modern stuff like Fractal, Quad Cortex or even Kemper (not so modern)? Does it age well?
@@davidletterboyz man its easier and better no crazy menus lol
Came for the amp, stayed for the relaxing voice.
I love this guys voice.
It would of been nice for it to have 4 channels! Amps with 3 or 4 channels are more versatile and useful in a live situation. Especially when you cover a lot of material.
Well if u think all line 6 amps sound muddy than u obviously dont know good tone. I dont own one, but i played one in store and it sounds very good. And who cares if its digital, what does that matter. That doesnt make it bad. If i were you, id stop thinking about the technology and appreciate the good sound its making.
This is really exciting. Line 6 is doing some pretty amazing things in the amp world. It'll be interesting to see how the 4 voicings stack up to say, a Plexi, Twin Reverb, AC30, Triple Rec, etc. Can't wait to try one of these out.
I agree...i picked up a Spider on the fly once to cover a gig & it was at best, OK...I used a Crate Stealth 50 as my main amp at the time because of the unusual tone & it being all tube...it went down & I needed something fast That Spider III was GREAT at LOW volumes, BUT cranked up, it couldn't keep up & sounded so flat.
I saw this amp & walked by it several times without a second glance. I was looking at an ENGL & the salesman told me to check this out. I REALLY am glad I did. It's the shit!!
I wish I could buy this guy's voice.
Amazing eye contact.
I'm just responding to MrStanletBird's Comment. I haven't had the chance to even get a glimps of or played through the HT50) head yet, but from some of the other videos I've seen, the distortion is really happening! I'm really a diehard Mesa user, and switched to the MK V heads, because, even though you can get the MK V to get that Uber gain sound, you can back off, and get still get plenty if dist., but not like the old 'Limp Biscut' mess. It also gives u ur dist., but cleans-up ur playing...
Trust me, I own the line 6, flextone III, and it is awesome!. This is an upgrade that I will probably purchase. It has so many great options, and they all sound great.
JulioRay
actually, 100W is only a little bit more powerful than 50. its not double the power. you can get by with a 50 just fine. and any gig you play at that youd bring a half stack to, they can do a little mic work
How did I not hear of these when they came out? Now there arent even heads out
I LOVE this amp. I use it and it KILLS. The actual "EQ" section is a little weird getting use to because it seems to change per channel & reacts like the amp style it's fashioned after. It is seriously LOUD & can keep up with anything out there easily. I do use it as a two channel amp without effects. not even reverb.
This is mightily impressive. I've never had a real tube amp, always gone with MFX modellers. Watched the POD HD demo and thought (...), watched this and thought (!!!)
I had a DT50 2x12 that I sold...it's at the very top of my "man, I wish I didn't sell that" gear list. It was friggin awesome but my GOD was it loud. lol
I own one too. You left out, “my GOD is this thing heavy!” It sounds great, but it sure is an arm stretcher.
@@Annunaki_0517 Yea, that too...for sure. It's definitely quite the big chungus.
@ArielsSmartyPants Its not 100% analog if you read the FAQ on Line6s website it still says it has HD modeling with analog components.
"Each one adapts and adjusts based on what the other is doing. For example, at high volumes the HD amp modeling technology “backs off” to allow for the natural power-tube distortion to take over and color the tone. At low volumes, the opposite happens. As a result, DT50 yields outstanding “sweet spot” tone at all volume levels"
I’m a big fan of topologies
I think i have a degree in topology. I did alot of flipping this to get that lol
It's so refreshing to know that this amp has ALL these different modes so that when I DO play each night of the week in a different band (like anyone really does this) at a different place, I'm covered. People buy these things, find ONE setting they like and make all the other setting sound similar and before they know it they have a single channel amp. The guy does have a bitchin' voice though!
Well i dont know what line 6 you have been playing, but the ones I have, (the tube models) sound great! Just as good as the higher end stuff i think.
All those button clickings during a gig will really bring in the crowd
Ok awhile back a few guys r arguing about tubes etc line 6 blah blah blah. Again, this amp has tubes in it!! It does also have some type of modeling that sets up the tubes to sound like a certain amp. Who cares as long as it sounds good. I have the dt25 and also all tube amps. Can barely tell the difference.
Good idea. Don't personally like all the sounds, but it has good promise.
Yeah Beavis, hold the mic still! Super Shred, Topology, TP for the bunghole... Holy crap, I heard the relay click, Yeah, Yeah!
"Hey, I'm gonna use a digital, muddy amp just because everyone else is using tube, clear tone amps." Good tip. It's not about being close minded - it's about having a developed ear and knowing good tone from bad tone.
@PIlotrcm
In general you are right. I guess meanwhile, digitalizing can sound almost as same as tubing. The problem is: modelling the behaviour of tubes needs so much time, that it really gets expensive to buy the product that comes in the end. I guess the Pod HD 500 floorboards are near to the dynamics of tube amps, but you also pay your 500 - 600 bucks just for the preamp ;) so its the same price like full tube preamping. Only thing is more flexibility ;)
ABSOLUTELY
Holy crap listen to that guy's voice. It's God-like.
the spiders are good for home and band practice. some situations hey can be used in gigs. spider valves are a good step up.. but this... i cant believe i havent heard of these before!
@IPushHard
Yeah I'm well aware of what a digital amp is, and I own more than just Marshall amps. Of course Line 6 doesnt want to be sued, but it that sign also serves as a double purpose.
The fact is that so many guitar players like to shit on anything digital or solid state and rave about how "only great amps use purely tubes and anything is cheap crap". When the fact remains that digital computer technology is getting so good that it replicates them nearly perfectly.
You can run a POD in to this? Like the rack mount or bean thing?
this amp is awesome and super affordable
Bogner helped out with these right?
ok please dont make fun of me but can you connect any amp head to any cabinet?
It looks pretty:p
Test drove the 2x12 combo of this amp AWSOME I'm buying what they are selling check out the Andertons w/ Chapers and Capt lee for an in depth review/demo of the 1x12 stack very impressive product
Like, as far as low end modeling amps go, the Peavey Vypyr blows the Spiders out of the water hands down. It even sounds pretty decent at higher volumes.
But yeah, I love the DT50.
" and this is my pedal board of death, this is the MAB switch, if i click it michael angelo batio falls from the sky with 50 guitars and slices your face open"
I love saying topology to others. They have no idea what I'm talking about but I sound really informed about something. They just don't know what.
The amp only has 2 12AX7's? Then they are lying if they claim it has no digital modeling. One of those tubes has to be a phase inverter for the power section.
Holy crap. I really wanted to hear this amp instead it was mostly "topology this" and "topology that". Play the freakin' thing and stop all the blathering.
@glaurung26 ha ha ok you got me on the resistor thing. But I win because my amp doesn't come with a selector knob marked Recto, US Hi Gain or Rectified.
It just is.
@bonetrainmusic Nah, there's still some DSP in it, not purely analog "modeling". Still, I was mildly interested in it when I tried it out today. Now I want it more than my next breath.
its about style .. big studios buy big expensive amps to looks cool :) .. line6 is young brand ... DT25/50 is first big deal amp series.
I play one DT25head almost every day ... what can I tell, sweet sound, tone possibilities ... I really do not think of Mesa or Marshall while playing DT25. I cant wait to feel DT50 head, should be even better...
Mesa, Marshall... it is more about style and
The guy speaking reminds me of the guy from silence of the lambs...would you buy this amp?..I'd buy this amp...I'd buy this amp sooo hard....lol...he seams nice, good review
This is a real tube amp? With a tube preamp? Like a Vox Night Train? (Or any other tube amp I could of picked...) Pedal Friendly? Afforadabillity? Works with a Valve Distortion?
Dudes.. You guys need to invest in a good shotgun mic. I love that you have a 57 on the cab but using the 58 for the interviews is not the way to go. Hear the hiss? Thats cuz you have to gain the 58 a ton to get levels when pulled off the mic that far. Buy a senheizer shotgun mic and keep the 57 for the guitar tone.
i woke up about a hour ago and now after listening to him speak feel tired again
Is it worth fixing and can the average amp repair guy handle this because its more than tubes its got the modeling in it as well.
I agree 110%
has line 6 finally made a good amp? id have to try it but its looking pretty good:P
Not all line 6s are bad. but i know what you mean, the dt50 is nice compared to marshalls. It sounds really greatt
Dude all I'm saying is there is a reason why major studios around the world are stocked up with Mesa, Peavey, and etc amps and not Line 6. They don't produce respectable tones. You can say I'm wrong all you want but there's a reason why the amps I'm defending are the top played and top recorded amps around and the one you're defending is not. And it has nothing to do digital - like I said before I own digital amp modeling gear. It's all about tone. Line 6 produces fuzz that isn't desirable.
@NZLeduc all line 6 amps are good.... this one happens to be really good :)
AMS is selling the head and cab for around $2000! That's a little much for Line 6 stuff.
Bogner Alchemist in Line 6 casing!?
Still skeptical. I want this to link to my hd500 and have a dream rig. Cool. But 2 years from now they will make something better, louder than two 50 watt tubes and im stuck with old stuff. I own a 50 wt mesa half stack for 10 years now, one unit one sound BUT is still out on the market for full price, always. I think thats the difference line6 is still reinventing their own wheel in a sense and ppl have to sell and upgrade constantly. Imo...
I feel like the host (Shawn Hammond) here is not properly appreciating the degree to which this is groundbreaking =| Like I just commented on the POD HD video, I don't even really LIKE modeling technologies, and I'm TOTALLY impressed by these new developments! lol
Does the amp sound as smooth as this dude's voice?
impossible....😅
yo dawg I heard you like topology
Line6 products do a great job for their market segment and they are definitely a cooler company and product than Peavey. However, IMO some of their products stretch a bit into ridicules territory especially with regards to price.
FUCKING LOVE THIS AMP!!
Just got the 2X12 version for $800.
Seriously this is a fantastic amp. It sounds awesome, even next to my 6505+head and Marshall cabinet. I hate Line 6 Spider amps with a passion because I think they're awful, but this amp is fantastic.
I had one of those. Sold it because it was DEAFENINGLY loud but I still wish I didn't. It really was awesome.
@elvezrulz Maybe they use that one preamp tube to warm up the digital preamp LOL.
So are they Fixed Bias? or they have trim pot?
Not demoing the mode 4 high-gain.
@steel337 thats because they have extreme bass on the mic it sounds horrible. Like a radio guy whos high
Glenn Fricker should review this!
haha he actually said the other day that this amp was good in one of his recent videos
@dareheaven2 no but you do want him to open it up and hear how it sounds more than a "dun dun dunnnn". They need to hire tim pierce or lukather or a session guru that will come demo the amp and actually play good stuff and really show people what it can do. just have a line 6 guy running the amp and changing knobs. Andy timmons or John petrucci's demos on youtube of their amps are like the perfect online demos you wanna see of how an amp will sound.
Nice
Lets make music over this everyone? I would love to see and hear your Eyedias
Every demo that I watched on head amps, they all seem to be trying to copy or duplicate the Marshall sound. It is like if they don't get pat in the back from the Marshall sound or get their blessing their amp head is not validated. I think the guy who asked Mr. Marshall to build him a very large and long amp was crazy and put all this spell on all makers. Marshall said it was impractical to build that size so he came up with the half stack and every maker copied after that, so Marshall in sound and size of the cabs imprinted an indelible mark in perpetuity.
@stratofink5772
If you switched it with your foot you would hear a pop each time you change something...not good for playing live
So you're a fan of topology?
im afraid of the popping and clicking while switching....seems to do that a lot
this amp looks a lot like the KUSTOM QUAD 100HD
Like a sir.
So this is NOT a modeling amp?
The demo guy reminds me of the john petrucci psycho exercises parody videos
@steel337 Maybe stoned "Dude where's my Car" Ben Stein LOL
Why is "Bogner" in print on the back of a "Line 6"?
He helped design it
coffeewaldo oh ok. Thanks :-)
Its fucking Buffalo Bill..lol
"It puts the lotion on the skiiiiin" ha ha
Cool amp though although plagued with tech issues
My 89" Randall RG100ES is the best! Am fucking tired of tubes! I dumped every Marshall I used to own..JMP-1-JMP100-800-900-DSL-Plexi..I"ve settled on that one great medium guitar tone that all those prior have produced, and My Randall does it better without having to fuck with doing the tube swap shuffle to find that sweet tone.Classic wah-MXR 78"-into the RG100-T.C.flashback in the loop.Strait ahead rock"n with thick gutsy tones!..!RANDALL!
Is this line6's first analog amp?
@Pianoblacks Sound a bit bitter.
does this amp sound good at bedroom levels, or do you need a power attenuator?
+Michael Bettini It does. If you pull the volume knob out it goes down to 25 amps of power, as opposed to 50. Sounds the same as when its louder, just more quite.
You never need an attenuator.
That line6 rep sounds like he's talking in slow motion.
Cant belive they Discontinued the Vetta II (which was an amazing head!) and now they are trying to promote the DT-50 which really doesnt have enough features and totally doesnt sound as good or have the versatility of the Vetta...
@cilcannonvryce We're awesome because we make cool amps.
Why doe it sound like they are apologizing right off the bat? Tap this button and you hear our Apology 1 sound, tap this button and you hear the Apology 2 sound Tapology
@arroyomusic Me Crazy?!! Are you gaslighting me man? Actually I was reflecting the other night how well my Line6 Axsys 212 kept up with me for 12+ years until I sold it. I wish they - similar to Porsche and their 911 - simply refined and refined the AX212 into revision 3223.2b or something rather than come out with a boatload of cheese amps and effects. I have a M13 that I like - similar to your POD hold the cheese...lol. j/k
can you mic into this
For me I prefer guitar>Bunch o' Tubes>Speaker>ears and feeling it on my chest at volume.
To this: guitar>A/D converter to D/A converter whatever, resistors, chips, a little of this and a little of that>4 tubes>more solid state electronics>speaker>ears.
Idk why I'm asking u it looks like u don't own this amp. Maybe u did in the past but I don't see it anywhere in ur videos.
This is not a demo this is a review...i think demo its just playing and review its lots of talking
aw dude, u took my come back!!!! ha ha!!!! wtf is a topology? i think he needs to topologize!!!!! lol!!!!
Anthony Kiedis works for Line 6 now 👌
Why dont they just make their own sound....they Always need to sound like a marshall or vox or mesa....so actually the amp could better be brandless since there is no line 6 sound
