  • I like amps. More than no amps. There I said it.
And this is my favorite combo right now!
With the DT 25 I think Line 6 really got the combination of digital modeling and tube amplification right. It’s mega versatile features really great amp medals but still has a very tube like feel under the fingers and has loads of poke and power in the room.
I like it so much I bought 3 of them!
The DT25 is a 2 channel 112 digital / tube combo that in short combines a digital preamp with a tube power amp. The power amp reconfigures itself to match the operation of the power amp chosen.
Ultimately this allows you two bring two tube amps to a gig and switch between them. There are no menus, apps or USB connectivity. It simply works like a regular tube amp.
    Bravo Line 6. Bravo.
Because it’s an older product and it’s not en vogue you can pick one up used for a very reasonable price and they were reasonably priced to start with!
With the digital verb and the FX loop and amazing sounding XLR output it’s just a superb gigging amp.

Modding this amp has been one of my summer projects because I wanted it to be a lifetime partner, so I made mine even better! --- ... I noticed this is a microelectronics device with all the sensitive components cooking right above where the tubes are. I do not now if that is intended but will surely limit the lifespan of this lil' wonder... so I installed a generous and silent fan (NF-A14 FLX) together with a speed controller and screwed a little temperature probe right between the two EL-84s. The fan only kicks in when the chassis is at 40ºC and keeps it below 50ºC, barely warm to the touch so I reckon the electronics are going to be very happy for that. The second MOD was to install a thermistor (CL-80), at the power switch to limits the inrush current you make your amp and tubes undergo every time you switch it on (went from 10-15 amps to roughly 3-4). It is like a soft start. I bet this will make the tubes (which are very expensive nowadays) last forever, since lightbulbs (and tubes) fail 99% of the time when you switch them on. The third MOD was to get myself a decent potentiometer and a measuring terminal and hook them somewhere accessible so I don't have to disassemble the goddamn thing every time I change the tubes for a bias adjustment. Finally, I added a 9V power supply and hid it in the cabinet, so that I can connect my pedals straight into the amp, which minimizes the cabling clutter. To power everything I just need one outlet now.

Hey Gerardo. Thx for the comment. To be honest that all sort of went over my head!!! Except the last part. So you power your pedals from the amp? But are you not standing way in front of your amp onstage? So do you run a long power cable from your amp to your pedals?

I found this amp a few years back used for 500 bucks and just had to throw some matched, medium, eletroharmonix tubes in it. The popping, etc. was bad after about 10 minutes of playing, so I just stop playing it and (was a bit lazy and just payed for matching vs doing it myself, lol) and fine tuned the bias.. things just keeps on kicking ass, absolutely LOVE this amp!!

Yep great amps and are even better if you change the valves. I did with my previous Spider valve combo sourced NOS Tung Sol 6881 power tubes and a pair NOS Mullard ECC83. @@TheGuitarEffect Yes as I say I source out original new valves. I no longer have the, Spider Valve but I still have my DT25 combo.
I replaced the existing power tubes with NOS (New Old Stock) Mullard EL84 valves circa 1965 so these are new valves made in 1965 which are unused. Same with the pre amp valves I replaced them with 2 x NOS Mullard ECC83 valves circa 1963.
These old stock valves are expensive and difficult to find but IMHO they well worth the cost asthey transform the amp.
Basically when my DT25 is in AC30 mode it now sounds just like my old VoxAc30 same goes with the other modes for Fender and Marshall modes sound is identical. Hope this helps.

Very good video and playing. Loved the Skunk Anansie clip. Do you ever use the low power option if so does it do bedroom volumes and can you still make use of all the options adjusting the circuitry etc. From my understanding the low power mode negates the power tube.

Hey. Thx for the comment. So I use the amp on low volume mode nearly all the time. It’s extremely loud at higher volume settings and very manageable and great sounding at lower settings. The models except for the Mesa sound are really bad. This is the worst fender emulation I have heard. This amp, however, is built extremely well and has great features. Any cheap preamp pedal into the fx return sounds much better. The hd500x going into the digital input sounds amazing. Updating the firmware might be the ticket, but I was unsuccessful in doing so.....as well as the guy I hired to do so. I have had bad luck many times with the reliability of Line 6 products, particularly the power connections. Once I gave up trying to update this amp, it has proven to be pretty awesome.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  4 місяці тому

Hey. Thx for the comment. I have to say I actually disagree on both counts. I really like the amp models. All four of them. One thing to consider is. If I’m not running it loud it really does massively benefit tonally fro running it on low power mode. I don’t know if you’ve tried that.
And then second to that the first thing I did when I got this was went out and bought a HD500 so I could use it with the one cat 5 cable. While I found it did indeed sound great (though no better than the onboard models) it became very fiddly to get the levels between patches sorted when playing at volume. So I reverted to a pedalboard in the front.
I’ve had three of these for years now and several times I’ve considered replacing one or all of them. Just for a change. I simply can’t find anything that does what these do.
