I picked up a used one of these last year and LOVE it. I'm a Helix user, and for the first year I had the DT25 I was connecting the Helix via L6 Link and essentially using the DT as a power amp, and the Helix sounded better than it ever had. I recently experimented with using the DT as my actual amp and using the Helix for effects only in 4 Cable Method and that sounds even better. Such an underrated hidden gem of an amp.
My thoughts exactly, I need to do another video on this amp as iam stillbusing it and it still sounds massive. Such a shame it was discontinued. Keep hold of your dude.....never let her go lol 🤘😫🤘
@@PaulGlover trust me, it's not going anywhere. I'm running it through a Divided by 13 2x10 cab that sounds terrific, though I also picked up a pre-owned DT25 1x12 combo (that I rarely use) to have on hand for smaller gigs, etc. That said if I ever come across another reasonably priced pre-owned DT25 head I would consider picking it up as a backup, being that they're both amazing and discontinued.
@@PaulGlover mind if I ask you one other question? I recently came to notice some odd behavior from both of my DT25s and wondered if yours does the same - when switching Low Volume Mode on and off, not only is the change in volume inconsistent depending on which preamp model you're using, some of them actually get QUIETER when you switch LVM off. Ever since switching to 4CM I've played three gigs where my levels between presets/snapshots were off even though I had double checked them at home. Come to find out the culprit was LVM (I was using it at home but not live). So far my solution is just to leave LVM on all the time. Have you noticed this as well?
As I understand it, there has been a firmware update to this amp which allows you to store ALL of the various HD preamp models within the amp now. Which includes a really sweet Soldano model.
Hi Paul, just wanted to say, awesome reviews man! I'm watching videos on kit i'd never consider buying, genuinely just like watching you review, you bring something different to the table, no pretentious bullshit. I'm pretty much sold on the DT25 so thanks for influencing me. Keep it up dude.
Mate you don't know how happy i am to know that, we try to keep it real- its all we know! i'm glad that comes across. Yeah the DT25 is an immense bit of kit you can't go wrong. Please share our vids bro (Facebook and UA-cam) we'll spread this Shiz like butter (and promise we won't change!
I sold my Marshall JVM to get the DT25 combo. huge leap of faith. don't regret it at all. sounds friggin amazing. the four voices are all totally useable for just about any "style" you can think of. only problem is getting used to lower stage volumes....
I sold my Blackstar HT100 to buy this amp and I have to say I'm not disappointed that I did. The Blackstar was an awesome amp but the DT25 offers more flexibility.
Really like the insight on this amp... you do great job reviewing. Thanks for being thorough. I would love to hear different guitars through it. but, I'll do that on my own since I just ordered one! Thanks again!
I still play mine in 2018. The versatility still kicks ass: Fender, Park (Marshall), Vox and Boogie tones with one purchase. And BTW: If you have Midi cable you can also use all the other POD amp models even without an HD500 Pod. There is a freeware called DT Edit.
this is my favorite practice amp , it really is an amp you have to check out for your self . i dont have anything bad to say about it , other than maybe a head phones jack for whisper mode but thats ok its quite enough to not need head phones even at 3 in the morning
David Draper with a 4x12 yes but if your using it alot without a mic then look for the DT50 mate. But the 25 is loud but clean headroom might be an issue.
I am a fairly beginner guitarist. So far I know some Iron Maiden songs, easy Metallica songs etc. My most challenging song/solo is losin' your mind by pride & glory (zakk wylde). I almost nailed the solo. I also want to perform on stage within a year. And I mainly play 80's metal/hard rock/blues rock. Should I get this amp, or is there an cheaper alternative? I am a student so I don't have too much money.
I bought the head n 2 cabs on the back of this video review. Spot on. Thanks for a great unbiased review from a consumer guitarists viewpoints. Anytime ur anywhere near Milton Keynes let me know, there's a pint or 3 for you !!!
The first chord you played when you began the review revealed some of the warmest, richest most complex sounds that I have heard from a mid level comboo ever. So far it aIs one of the most full bodied beautiful combos in the market. Better than any Fender, Marshsll, Boogie, dr z etc.. At under $:2,000, it a steal
+Paul Glover Robert Sarzo the ex lead guitarist from Geoff Tate's version of Queensryche uses line 6 DT 50 head and cabinet loaded with celestions vintage 30's, he also uses the line 6 pod hd500x. That should tell us how great is this amplifier bro.
You say you are a Soldano man and I personally think the Soldano HT25 is the best sounding amp out there, so I'm asking does the Line6 here sound in the same league as something like the HT25 for complex distortion structure and authenticity??
Hi Paul, yes I know it's bit of a late response on a vid from 2013 but, I picked up two DT25 amps lately for a bargain :) 1 combo version and one head + cab. I notice that it has a lack of clean headroom, but for inside practice and recording it's fine. I saw in your vid that you also have an old Vetta amp. My question is, have you ever been gigging with a DT and does the DT hold up to the Vetta sound wise? Thanks in advance for your reply. GreetZz from the Netherlands.
Dani West both mate it has power and pre tubes to aid the digital with analogue tech. A great and really underestimated amp. Check out the line 6 webpage for a more detailed explanation about the magic.
The preamp has one 12AX7 tube in it. Preamp uses mainly the modeling technology, but the tube shapes the overdriven sound. I once changed it to a different manufacturer tube and the entire gain structure of the amp changed quite a bit. So the preamp tube is not just in there for marketing claims. But IMO the 2 powertubes are THE most important part of providing that "tube amp feeling".
Is it me or is the Fender clean breaking up a bit? 4:55 A Deluxe Reverb is close to 25 watts. Would it be breaking up that soon? Not being critical, just wondering how close to Fender it really is. You can get all kinds of drive out of a Behringer or a Crate these days. Few amps deliver a really decent clean sound.
Great job guys - looking forward to part 2. One quick question for you - how does this amp fair with drive pedals and boosts? I'm particularly thinking of the Marshall and Vox typologies etc.
Great review but has totally put me off buying it. Jvm video was the same a bit lost for what amp now as they both sounded poor in the videos any other great clean with great metal amps you suggest thanks ?
Nice demo guys. I paid $899 usd for mine. :( its a good amp though. It takes some tweaking and I think the guys that don't like it didn't know how to use it properly. Sorry guys who don't know how to tweak. You can even get a good sound out of topology one and a good distortion box. I got the cab as well and the hd300. A lot of tweaking there too. Anyway, again nice playing and demo. Ps had that little marshall too. Just sold it.
Thanks for the info. I love my dt25h, especially when used with my he 500x, and one of my Variaxes,(I have a JTV59 in tobacco burst and a JTV89 in ebony. The sound through the matching cab is good, not wonderful, I find that my Marshall 1960a sounds great with humbuckers or models of humbuckers and my 1975 Marshall cab I've had since new in the early/mid eighties sounds great with single coil sounds. I find it works better with hotter pups, my 63 Jaguar, not a reissue, sounds thin on this amp. Thanks again, I appreciate your time in producing this.

Hi Paul. Great vids. I was just wondering if you have ever had a ‘popping’ noise from this amp? I have the combo but it keeps making this noise ? Any thoughts ?
Paul Glover Thanks for getting back Paul. I’ll try what you’ve suggested. I see you have a Vetta. What’s your opinion of them ? I’ve seen heads going for £300 and a combo for £500.
@@mrssauce its still one of my favourate and still underated head ever. You have to boost the presence in a live environment but they where well ahead of there time. 🧟♂️
@Yesidoplaytheguitar think you'll start seeing them (head) going for £499 again soon. But I must admit for right now at the price point this little fella is hard to beat. The EVH 5150 mk3 50 watt head is also a peach but its £750ish at the mo? We also loved the HandK tubemeister 18 again roughly the same price as the DT. Depending on your needs you could also look at the HD500?
Hi dose anyone know what this sounds like on the low volume mode? I'm looking for a new amp I'm pretty much just a bedroom rock star but still want something good at low volume with lots of different sounds?
Great review, but so was your Blackstar series one 50! My question is, which one do you prefer more and why? I'm going to buy one of these due to your video reviews and I mostly play rock (not much metal tho)!
Might seem redundant; would this be a big improvement over a Peavey Valveking 212 (first gen)? My bandmate is playing a Blackstar series 50 through a 4x12 which sounds massive and the Valveking just can't keep up. So basically I need a budget solution to keep up with that series 50. Any ideas besides this?
dude this amp is awesome and it's, in my opinion better than the peavey but it's the power. 25 watts is loud but maybe a 50 would be better? great heads though mate.

+Paul Glover cheers dude! I've also been considering a Blackstar HT-50 which could possibly be an even better solution. Pricewise it's in the same ballpark as the DT25 and to my ear it sounds just as awesome. Still, going to think long and hard about it haha. Keep up the great reviews man, you've got yourself a new subscriber!
+bluegang3 The Line 6 DT 50 has more head room for a band situation than the DT 25, and it has more options than the Black star HT 50 and not to mention that it sounds good at lower volume, you don't want the cops knocking at your door. : )
Hey Paul I was considering buying the dsl40 Marshall tube/valve combo amp. I recently heard about this. I see u have a Marshall there too, so what do u think would be th better amp for rock light to heavy, live and recording? App feedback. Thanks
Thanks for this video. I'm giving some thought to one of these. Seems it'd be great for having an all-in-one type setup. Can you please do another version where you play "Ferry Cross the Mersey"? Only joking, great video, great review!!
@Awm Joeyjoejoe I have yet to replace my vetta 2 with this rig. It's great and a lot more dynamic but the vetta has a lot more options. For a 2 channel the DT25 at this price range is hard to beat. Vetta sounds great for me though and the ease of use is second to none one button to change amp, effects, controllers it still can't be done this well for the price. I love my vetta by the way lol.
Versatile amp as hell and if you get a good cabinet (I am using Marshall JVMc 212) it rocks hard. You won't be dissapointed. Cranked channel II and little FUZZ -> instant Hendrix tone ;)
Paul Glover how much do they averaglley cost. And do you know any other affordable amps that are good for gigging at a pub with around 100 people in and how loud would the amp have to be to do so.. thanks. Dan
This amp is pritty loud I've played rehearsals with a loud drummer with one into a 2x12 cab mice up its all good for any venue. Don't know about cost bro, I'd have a gander around the interwebs for a best buy.
Paul Glover at the moment im playong through a line 6 spider iv 15 watt but I am getting the 75 soon for practising. But I am thinking about making a band and I was thinking about using the blackstar id 100 watt through a 12x 24 cab (i think thats what cab it is)... could you please check out my channel as I have a video of a guitar cover. P.s. I suscribed to your channel
I noticed your tat. Are you friends with Iain Lee. We went to Chiropractic college together. No idea where he is now. Heard he might have buggered off to NZ!
When you compared the relative level of the two topologies (1 and 4) they may sound similar in a quiet room, but competing with a live band, the purer clean tone will cut through far better than the drive tone because the drive tone is inherently compressed, and much of the drive channel's power is lost pushing its inherent white noise (shhh sound). The drive side seemed highly compressed, lacking dynamics. You were way below the 25 W max, plenty of headroom left. Could also be UA-cam though.
Thanks for the judgement and bullshit there Josh, and for spending your time to become the Troll of the Day!!!!!! We will now add you to our wall of Troll and throw random objects and food at ya photo when we see fit, first we will throw cheesecake. Thanks again for the stop by lol.
Great video! I have to get used to your accent, is it Scottish? :) Just subscribed to your channel, check mine when you get the chance! I may buy this head and ran into this video!
Hi dude good to have you on the team. Yeah i love this head bro, its a killer. Iam from Liverpool lol so i get Scottish and Australian alot lol 🧟♂️🤟🧟♂️
Hey Paul, not to be that UA-cam jack ass, but your definition of pentode and triode are way off. It's not how many tube (valves), it's how they are biased and the number of plates the elections pass through. Tubes basically have 3 elements, an anode, a cathode and a grid. Electrons flow from the anode (+) to the cathode (-). The 3 plate grid (triode configuration) is between these two points and regulates the current flow of electrons. How much effect the grid has is determined by the amount of bias current supplied to it. A pentode valve has two anodes, two cathodes and a 5 plate grid. (Thus tri- and pent-) This design allows a greater flow of electrons without overloading the tube and therefore allows the development of more power or amplification. So you get a cleaner and more transparent sound because they aren't working so hard to produce the same volume. Theoretically, pentode should be louder, but Line 6 is smart a designed a system to keep the volume similar to just allow the change in tonal characteristics. Also, the difference in class A and class AB is the voltage to the power tube section of the amp. Class A, the power tubes are always running at their max voltage, while class AB amps have something that cuts the voltage before it hits the power tubes. For instance, the old Marshalls only have one volume (pre-amp) and the power amp is always on full. Class A. My little Vox AC-15 is class AB, it has a channel volume (pre-amp/gain) and a "master" (power-amp). Sometimes, you can get into really complicated circuits, like the Marshall JVM410. If you look on any one of the channels they have a gain (pre-amp) and volume (power-amp) knob; "but then what about the master to the far left of the amp?" you might ask. That is essentially a post output stage attenuation knob. Meaning it cuts the overall volume without shaping the tone (like tubes); think of it like an adjustable resistor. In life, this means you can drive you channel volume and gain as much as your heart desires, but the limit how much of that stellar tone is hitting the speakers. This prevents you from slaughtering people at your gigs with 100 watts of pain and is a real plus one to Marshall. Hope this was both informational and helpful. Keep it real and keep the videos coming; they're absolutely immense! =)
Paul Glover hey bro, you mention that your a SS user and not so much a tube guy. wondering what SS has to offer over a tube amp that you like so much. as for the line6 in the video it sounds very muddy to my ears. just very thick sounding. not for me or my ears.
No mate we like how we do it. I want to be honest and from the heart. Writing a script and editing it doesn't work like that. Plus i was really drunk so there would be no chanch. 🧟♂️
any chance you can do a detailed explanation of the firmware 2 for DT25? As usual the info and support from LINE 6 is SHIT! and clear as mud - non-existent cheers!
Lary Parker a little delay and reverb mate. Crap might be a little harsh. The reverb is a built in effect so is the amp. The delay is a slight effect so you are still hearing the amp in full. No tone shaping effects where used. Still hope it gave you an idea in a "real world" application.

Would you recommend upgrading to this from a Vetta II? How do they compare?
Now that it's 3 years later, have you had any issues with the DT25?
sound of crickets chirping......
Thanx for this guys, if you ever get chance to record this amp against a track that would be awesome. I would be using it for recoding mainly, Ta
Hi dose anyone know what this sounds like on the low volume mode? I'm looking for a new amp I'm pretty much just a bedroom rock star but still want something good at low volume with lots of different sounds?
Mate it's killer, even in normal running on a low volume it low enough but still kicks. The LVM is great though.
Great review, but so was your Blackstar series one 50!
My question is, which one do you prefer more and why?
I'm going to buy one of these due to your video reviews and I mostly play rock (not much metal tho)!
Cannot find update vid. Did u do the update ?
Great review, lads---entertaining and informative.

Hey quick question how many watts is that beast and can you get in in any other wattage than what it is .
Hey Paul I was considering buying the dsl40 Marshall tube/valve combo amp. I recently heard about this. I see u have a Marshall there too, so what do u think would be th better amp for rock light to heavy, live and recording? App feedback. Thanks
It's been up for ages bro!
There's a link in the description.
450, is that the scouser 5 finger discount?, arnt the 600?
12:00 £450?, can`t find it at that price lol. Lowest price I could find was £575 XD
dude it was a special at the time, Line 6 knock a ton of this the HD500 and the Variax. T'was a deal indeed.
Paul Glover Thanx for the reply, just watched another video where someone asked the same thing.BTW what`s your take on the line 6 Amplifi ?
Line 6 were doing a rebate on all the products in their 'Dream Rig' range during Nov/Dec..it took the DT25 head down to £459 dude.
Pentode vs. triode is not how many tubes. It's how many plates in the tubes are in the circuit.
cool demo!
Thanks for this video. I'm giving some thought to one of these. Seems it'd be great for having an all-in-one type setup. Can you please do another version where you play "Ferry Cross the Mersey"? Only joking, great video, great review!!
great review, great playing, great banter! new favourite gear channel
Great job LA! I'm after one of these amps but the vids are sought of studio sound. this vid is balls'n'all. Keep it up fellow Scousers.
ScouseinOz.
so should I get this amp or no?
Are you demoing the amp or your yapper?
Both dude
Thanks dude, there is 4 in the series.
How many watts is that beast.
25 watts but you can also get a 50 watt head if you need more.
Cheers mate!
Come onnnnn, part 2 already!
thanx mate
Nice to have someone demoing kit with a bit of rhythm as well as face melting lead. you don't get that at andertons!! lol
Subscribed
I noticed your tat. Are you friends with Iain Lee. We went to Chiropractic college together. No idea where he is now. Heard he might have buggered off to NZ!
I'm using a Nikon D7000 w/ 35mm f1.8 lens.
Could also be UA-cam though.
good job!
I dig this demo except that volume drops when you are talking. Still great though Paul! Cheers mate!
Thanks for the judgement and bullshit there Josh, and for spending your time to become the Troll of the Day!!!!!! We will now add you to our wall of Troll and throw random objects and food at ya photo when we see fit, first we will throw cheesecake. Thanks again for the stop by lol.
Finally, someone who actually give it some, tired of watching farty reviews of people playing clean, tinny solos, turn it to 11!
spider series may have not been that great but for $200, pretty good
i alway say go head and cab, more options.
yes yes and yes
Great video! I have to get used to your accent, is it Scottish? :) Just subscribed to your channel, check mine when you get the chance! I may buy this head and ran into this video!
Hi dude good to have you on the team. Yeah i love this head bro, its a killer. Iam from Liverpool lol so i get Scottish and Australian alot lol 🧟♂️🤟🧟♂️
Dig your channel man. Keep it up!!!! 🧟♂️🤟
No dude that's awesome, at this point I was very new to valves as I'd always run SS. Thanks for the info fella.
Paul Glover
hey bro, you mention that your a SS user and not so much a tube guy.
wondering what SS has to offer over a tube amp that you like so much.
as for the line6 in the video it sounds very muddy to my ears. just very
thick sounding. not for me or my ears.
yakfishin yeah dude, I loved the thick at all volume thing with Ss. It does however disappear in a mix and live. Valve tones just cut right through.
whats your fav ss amp combo?
Very good review - this is how ya do it, suckaaas
hahaha yeah man, next video,
Try writing a script, editing it, and reading it instead of just rambling and rambling.
Talking to quiet, guitar too loud... apart from that, great review!
sweet \m/
Can't tell what the amp sounds like with all that extra crap you have on there!
Lary Parker a little delay and reverb mate. Crap might be a little harsh. The reverb is a built in effect so is the amp. The delay is a slight effect so you are still hearing the amp in full. No tone shaping effects where used. Still hope it gave you an idea in a "real world" application.
look people, let me give you two words that are the real "all you need to know"
1. johnson millinium
2. e-bay
get the best sounding modeling amp ever built and put a down payment on a new car instead
Absolutely not.
Lol that amp is a lump of shit. It's for indians that live in teepees and I have never I mean never... nevermind I won't say it.
Get to the fucking point.
lot of shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh thermal noise
