I’m still watching this 13 years later and I miss Karl being on shows and interviews. I bet he’s sitting on a good pile of cash, re-grouting his kitchen over and over again.

Yeah. Ultimately Steve got his voiceovers. Karl got his new kitchen, and breakout shows on Sky. All three are deserved millionaires and are still close friends. Their on-air squabbles in the XFM years led to that. I squabble with my best mates. It's fun. The podcast wouldn't work nowadays, because Karl has learned so much although he always had a wisdom about him which superseded the average Manc. But he's blossomed too much now to take the piss any more. "Moaning Of Life" and "Sick of It" were both fantastic television shows with no involvement from Merchant or Gervais, much as I love them.

Nowadays they'd see the 3 legs on a scan, I wonder if anyone has that in modern times? You never hear of someone with 3 legs anymore. Kinda a shame, cus evolution might have meant for us to grow more and be faster etc!
Karl is a very interesting example of a certain way of thinking. He is a common sense philosopher. He has an intuitive, natural born wisdom which seems to serve him well. The way he states his beliefs and views is very forthright, practical and funny as hell. I've tried to put into words what makes Karl unique and that is the best I can do.

The reason Karl is so funny is that he says everything with complete conviction. He doesn't lie to make a story funny he just believes everything he says.
He also is stupid / genius enough to go along with Ricky's random ideas, most people would have told him to shutup after he asks them what would happen if you had to mate with a squid.

Exactly this. People don’t realise that it’s the two together that makes it funny. Karl is hilarious but wouldn’t be anywhere near as much without Ricky asking him the right things.

@@mrmeg01 its not scripted, no one pointed it out, they just guessed. Gervais addressed this once in an xfm show. He said it took them a month sometimes to write 30 mins of script for The Office, so how long would it take them to write 2 hours of drivel every week for xfm? He even challenged the person doubting him to call in with 5 random questions to ask Karl. (the guy never did). Karl is genuine. Another way you can tell is look at those times he's been on the British morning shows. The way they laugh at his comments you can tell they are unexpected.
Also, Gervais said, if they had created a character as good as Karl Pilkington would they have let him do his own show Idiot Abroad? Hell no, he would be kept under wraps and used for their own tv shows.

I was an alcoholic who woke up one morning having completely fucked up all my relationships with everyone i cared about the night before and felt completely hopeless and suicidal. @Shizy Mcnizy Gaming Smerch tries to show his intelligence over Ricky as well, just that Ricky is incredibly smart so he doesnt try as much. People rip on Smerch too much in my opinion, they all bring an element which coincide perfectly and bring comedic gold.

I watch this video every few months. Simply for a laugh. KP filled that void, a gap in the market. The man's not changed his views 1 iota. Karl was never an unwitting comedian. He knew he had a gift but nor was he ever bothered about success. The confidence to argue (in earnest) with two successful celebs on a radio show and absolutely be happy to fade into obscurity is what singles KP out as the legend he is. You can pull up that freaks magazine on the internet pretty easily, it’s actually pretty disturbing he’d carry that around with him, he’s such a genuinely unique character, the way he was revealing them and Gervais reacts it’s such a naturally hilarious effects, Pilkers never fails to make me chuckle.
