I can't put my finger on it.

If people watch expecting a 'sit com' type script there not going to hear what is a refreshing take on making a point.
Something I find with Karl is that he gets funnier the more you get to know his personality. Because part of what makes it funny is kind of knowing how his brain works, and also the dynamic in the show with him and Ricky and Steve.
I think about this too! I find him endlessly comedic no matter what he's saying. My first attempt at trying to describe it is that I find it amazing how I can't predict what he's going to say but every time I somehow completely agree with him. He said in an interview that he's happiest when he's washing the dishes by himself and I thought that was really sweet and inspiring even. In the cases I don't because he's obviously got some facts mixed up, the mix up is so funny. It's even funnier with Ricky and Steve who don't always seem to see where the mixup happened. Like the story with the astronaut monkey. He got it right that they sent a monkey to space but then he made up the part in his head that that means that the monkey controlled it too and therefore must have been pavlovian contioned into learning to fly a rocket. I would like to hear more theories if you guys have them on why he's so goddamn funny. I don't usually find people this funny.
He's great and reminds me why I left the posh part of Sale (AKA Altrincham) in 1968. Brilliant! He's spot on with the tourist tat - I've travelled to many countries and not seen most of their tourist traps but really enjoyed sitting in backstreet cafes and wandering right off the beaten track. But the Taj *is* awesome in the true sense of the word.
His naivety and spontaneity turned out to be a type of comedy never seen before. I've been following him since XFM, I particularly like the podcasts. I genuinely thing that he's a good person and he's entertained me so many times. I'm totally different from him, but I understand him. Thanks Karl! I wouldn't want to meet any celebrity, Hollywood stars, I don't care, but I'd love to go for a walk with him.
Credit to Christian O’ Connell. This is the only interview with Karl i’ve ever heard where the interviewer isn’t doing an impersonation of ricky and steve and simply mocking or laughing at Karl.
Nilly You're correct. I've seen another video where karl was walking next to a girl who had teh same face and paparrazi were taking pictures. Suzzane is quite large lol. Round figure for sure
The more you watch of him the stranger of a personality Karl appears to be. Sometimes he seems really sharp and quick with his responses, but on other times the exact opposite. Also he's obviously very naive. It's so difficult to say whether this man is intelligent or not. He's hilarious, at least we know that for sure
he has the intelligence of a child. He sees things exactly as they are presented to him, so any nuance in the background flies over his head, like when he wasn't impressed with Newton's work. While that might look "smart" in the sense that doesn't get distracted too much from stuff out his reach and he thinks (and comment) stuff that we might miss out for the sake of routine (therefore appearing as "intelligent"), is that exact same mentality that makes people like him get deeply impressed by, to the point of believing, magic tricks. Since there is no obvious and inmediate reason to doubt what just happend in front of their eyes, then it should be true. That type of behavior are clear marks of mental retardation. A really good example in fiction would be Forrest Gump.
I think Karl is pointing out what isn't so great. Wonders should make you go how did this happen etc, but take the pyramids, they are fenced off enclosed areas with a ton of people trying to sell you shit you never wanted in the first place. And then there's 100,000 people around all doing the exact same shit. So some people are going to think WTF is this shithole, seeing pictures and docos doesn't give you the reality of the place. Another is Pompeii tons of places fenced off and you can only see 1 tenth of the total area because it's full of porn all over the walls. As the Romans loved having orgies and threesomes and gay sex etc all over the place. The more money you had the bigger the pron murals you'd have to show off. But people don't know that stuff as they don't tell that
I think it's at least in part an act. Otherwise it would be borderline unethical to make shows with him and Ricky and Steve wouldn't have done that. Also because it wouldn't be particularly funny.
Yes, Karl is far more funny than Ricky, which is why he's asked to host the Golden Globes and does worldwide comedy tours. Oh wait, that's Ricky, sorry.
I'm just imagining Karl presenting dangerous roads after that scene from moaning of life where those people dance in the middle of the road and he gets so pissed off 😂😂
I live by the ugly house, it's a load of boulders and rocks in the shape of a house, it's ugly because long ago 2 brothers were given 24 hours to build a house or lose the land so they did rough quick job, but it's charming
I think he makes a great point regarding the wonders and how actually experiencing them would be more stressful than desired because EVERYONE there is rushing in to see them
"Did you stay in a Kebab shop?" XD Oh Karl, you didn't even stay there for the night. You were there for 5 minutes and then went to a hotel (if only a crap one). XD I love how Karl likes to exaggerate XD Such a legend.
Karl seems to be shown in a much more "competent" light. When you're not hearing Ricky or Stephen badgering every little thing he says, he seems more like the person he truly is, just an everyman who has simple pleasures, and a simple and respectable outlook.
a lot of what he says gets ridiculed by the host (everybody seems to position themselves this way). with another approach some of his claims do become, at least for me, more profound. i love traveling, but like him i despise superficial tourism, where people visit and look at the facades they are suppose to look at, without understanding historical, political, social, artistic background. he sincerely asks himself the question: WHAT AM I LOOKING AT AND WHY?
I think all of my favourite Karl interviews are when he personally knows the interviewer prior to the interview. You can tell easier he finds it and he seems a lot more insightful

Altrincham is not in sale , different towns, as a wythenshawe lad I reckon sale is the better of the two
I've Googled "The Ugly House." It's quite picturesque.
I rewatch this every so often. Love it
Karl Pilkington is one of the most naturally funny people I've ever seen! Would really like to have a beer with him :)
"The Pyramids, honestly, they're not good."
-- Karl Pilkington
His naivety and spontaneity turned out to be a type of comedy never seen before. I've been following him since XFM, I particularly like the podcasts. I genuinely thing that he's a good person and he's entertained me so many times. I'm totally different from him, but I understand him. Thanks Karl! I wouldn't want to meet any celebrity, Hollywood stars, I don't care, but I'd love to go for a walk with him.
What I like about Karl is that he has no filter. He says things how he sees it, and doesn't worry about people judging him.
"I used to go to Wales a lot as a kid"
"Sorry to hear that..."
LOL!!!
I love it when Karl tries to play it cool "you'll have to tune into This Morning to find out"
“I used to go to Wales as a kid” “I’m sorry to hear that “
It's great being able to hear Karl talk on his own. Obviously I love Ricky and Steve, but sometimes it's annoying how they never let Karl talk.
Credit to Christian O’ Connell. This is the only interview with Karl i’ve ever heard where the interviewer isn’t doing an impersonation of ricky and steve and simply mocking or laughing at Karl.
The change of girl at around 6 mins 30 is crazy fast, like those quick change artists.
TheCamorra2011 Weird innit?
The first one was Suzanne. There is a picture of the two on the Internet and it is the same girl. It has to be her.
Nilly You're correct. I've seen another video where karl was walking next to a girl who had teh same face and paparrazi were taking pictures. Suzzane is quite large lol. Round figure for sure
Yeah I'm pretty sure it is her too!
I agree i thought it was suzanne as well. It has to be her. It is the same girl from the picture of him and her in the street.
Very good I know someone just like this.
he has the intelligence of a child.
Also because it wouldn't be particularly funny.
its an act, its called comedy.
Karl is 10x funnier than Ricky. Had to say it. Love him hahaha. Such a brilliant personality.
Karl is not trying to be funny though it's his stupid seriousness that makes it so funny
GlowVaa Gaming That's what makes him so much better than most comedians. It's all natural, none of it is forced.
True thats true
The only thing funny about Gervais is his laugh. All of his jokes come from Pilkington.
Yes, Karl is far more funny than Ricky, which is why he's asked to host the Golden Globes and does worldwide comedy tours. Oh wait, that's Ricky, sorry.
Karl is awesome. Love to spend the day just talking with him.
Every time Karl says something funny I hear Ricky's high pitched laugh in my head :)
"Did you stay in a kebab shop?" One of his finest lines!!
O'Connell sounds like Alan Partridge!
33hegemon haha he really does! 😂
@The Meaning no
Love the fact he was the boss of people 😂
"But she didn't, she packed it in."
Fucking brilliant.
I hated the way the interviewer was laughing at Karl when he was trying to explain his point of view.
+Vigilant Citizen Christian and Karl worked together for years. Part of the banter.
didn't u hear the xfm shows and ricky's laughter when karl's explaining his view points ?????
Love Christian always makes my mornings
he's laughing because he's funny...
Did it remind you of all the times people laughed at you when you were trying to explain your point of view?
"Did you stay in a Kebab shop" has to be one of the funniest things I've heard.
He's on fire in this one. And not just the old regular Karl way, but in a different way.
This man is naturally brilliant at what he does.
What if the Buddha walks amongst us and his name is Karl Pilkington, bastion of serenity
It’s a crime we never had ‘An Idiot on Tour’!!! I’d love to have seen Karl just telling stories! From Manchester and his travels
Love this little man . His disposition is very positive , considering he's been labelled an idiot . He's far from an idiot. Awesome stuff Karl .
I'm just imagining Karl presenting dangerous roads after that scene from moaning of life where those people dance in the middle of the road and he gets so pissed off 😂😂
Been traveling the world. Never seen any of the great wonders, never been interested, but the culture is fascinating. I agree with Karl 100%.
U ain't been anywhere but your mum's basement
I live by the ugly house, it's a load of boulders and rocks in the shape of a house, it's ugly because long ago 2 brothers were given 24 hours to build a house or lose the land so they did rough quick job, but it's charming
Love KP, he's a fucking genius. He doesn't even have to say anything and you'll piss yourself laughing. lol
Thank you for uploading this interview!
I could just listen to these 3 forever
I love that you can hear Christian laughing throughout the entire interview.
"There's a place in Wales called the Ugly House..." typical Karl.😂
I'd love to see a show with Karl's Wonders of the World so we can hear him wax poetic on places like the Ugly House
6.32 Karl does something magical and the girl at the back completely changes her appearance. He's such a clever man.
Am I the only one thinking 'just let Karl talk!
yes
You actually can't see the Great Wall of China from space... The more you know.
+DJBusinessCake1 The Allright Wall of China.
+DJBusinessCake1 have you ever been?
sorryibrokethetrees hahaha ooooh you're an idiot
Oh. Ok.
+DJBusinessCake1 You can see it from space, in low Earth orbit. The often quoted phrase is you can see it from the moon, which is indeed false.
He made Gail Porter cry...Brilliant. Hehehe
Adam Johnson even better because she was being a baby he didn't kiss her arse. Good
Didn't she then lose all her hair?
I’d like to see more of these two, it’s fresh but they have clear chemistry Cos of past work
I think he makes a great point regarding the wonders and how actually experiencing them would be more stressful than desired because EVERYONE there is rushing in to see them
Karl, you're a legend. I ALWAYS Laugh, when I listen to you!!
when he said "there's a place in wales called the ugly house" i finally cracked x'D it's funny on so many levels
Give him a stage!!! The best stand up comedian in the world!!
"Did you stay in a Kebab shop?" XD Oh Karl, you didn't even stay there for the night. You were there for 5 minutes and then went to a hotel (if only a crap one). XD
I love how Karl likes to exaggerate XD Such a legend.
His wisdom is the most under-rated thing.
"So I should drop the 'O'?"
"Try it."
Love Karl.
Karl seems to be shown in a much more "competent" light.
When you're not hearing Ricky or Stephen badgering every little thing he says, he seems more like the person he truly is, just an everyman who has simple pleasures, and a simple and respectable outlook.
Idk man, Christian Connell? Lol
a lot of what he says gets ridiculed by the host (everybody seems to position themselves this way). with another approach some of his claims do become, at least for me, more profound. i love traveling, but like him i despise superficial tourism, where people visit and look at the facades they are suppose to look at, without understanding historical, political, social, artistic background. he sincerely asks himself the question: WHAT AM I LOOKING AT AND WHY?
I think all of my favourite Karl interviews are when he personally knows the interviewer prior to the interview. You can tell easier he finds it and he seems a lot more insightful
Thats suzanne in the background btw people
Cant imagine anyone who wouldnt love Karl
