Let us say if a person was able to download and install software such as 'tech stream' and used it successfully with a cheap Chinese J2534 MINI-VCI cable. Could that person repeat that success with the same J2534 MINI-VCI cable and the software 'consult 3'? I am educationally curious here. TIA
Wait, I'm so confused.. Is there not an ODB2 connector that fits all vehicles? Also, isn't the ODB2 software just that? Software? What's stopping someone from downloading the software from say the Snap-on ODB2 connector and using it on your laptop? Or running some kind of script that allows one to use different ODB2 software from different companies on say a laptop in linux, or maybe like an ipad? Has this not been hacked?

How can this be a cheap tool for kids and cheap cars if it’s the same as a scanner? A scanner you hold in your hand runs on a computer with a touchscreen tablet. Although a personal computer as shown here is much more versatile you can run different software depending what you need in specific instances it does what a scanner can’t, both are great tools you have no idea what you’re talking about you can’t even compare the two

It might be able to do it but you should ask the seller on aliexpress they will tell you for sure

I didn't try using that cable for other software than Techstream, so I am not sure.

It can be hacked, on Aliexpress you have lot of clones OBD2 scanners of OEM programs. But not everything works as OEM usually.
