i noticed it too but i don't think he was being rude, he motioned for her to touch the dog in the first place. he also started wiping the dog in other places beside from the place she touched. he was just trying to get rid of the stray fur

I am a Korean muslim and I went to Korea to visit family when I was walking, a old women came up to me saying “take that scarf off, you’re Korean! You shouldn’t be wearing this stuff” and I was in shock so I end up saying “sorry” and walked away. It’s really sad tbh

Before judging, please let me say this for Korea:
1. Back then the world wasn’t as free and accepting as it is now, so the elders obviously was taught in stereotypes.
2. Like the rest of the world, not all South Korean elders are nice.
3. The man with the dog looked like he was simply brushing off the stray fur since he didn’t only “clean” the places the girl touched.
4. Many elders do not understand English. They lived in SK for all their life.
5. They aren’t used to foreigners. They lived in SK for as long as they can remember, and that means they aren’t exposed to the other countries and religions as much. Please understand.
6. Lastly, I am Korean. If I saw her on the streets I’d internally melt from her positivity and beauty.
Edit: I’m not saying we should normalize racism! I’m just saying these elders shouldn’t be viewed the same way as the people who CHOOSE to be racist. They were TAUGHT STRICTLY to be racist in their childhood, and childhood memories don’t go away easily.

I had a Korean elder help me on the subway. I wasn’t feeling well so I was crouching by the subway door and the lady stood up off her seat (it was reserved seating for elders) and she let me sit down. I told her I was okay but she wouldn’t take no as an answer. She was really kind and made sure I was alright before I left the subway. She didn’t speak any English and my Korean was very limited but she has a warm heart! I doubt she would read this but Thank you 💛

They always want to make sure you have enough food, that you are warm enough, is so willing to give you more food if they see that your plate is empty, sing and hum arirang and other traditional songs. Those traditional songs always sound a little sad to me, and I wonder how these songs came to be sung by the people. Their eyes, the wrinkles tell such great stories that they've experienced in their lives that we could never imagine. As in their lifetimes, they have been through colonization, war, through the separation of the Koreas, during the countless cold winters of a war torn Korea and the quick development of Korea from then to now. I have met many wonderful Korean elders, on subways, trains, churches and etc.. I can see how you would think you are stating your own opinion, but i only see it as disrespect. And it is my opinion that you need to be more open minded and more empathetic towards others. Thanks

The fact that the old man rubbed his dog’s back after being pet by her.
He was probably wiping stray fur off of his dog, especially since shibas shed a lot. My dog also sheds fur whenever someone pets her, no matter how many times I brush her so after I pet her, I usually brush off the fur.
