took me a couple of years to understand what he did to photography, now i adore his work. he developed visual codes for pictures, and you see people everywhere using them, even without knowing his work.
Your videos are well done. However I've noticed there's nothing about Daido Moriyama or any other influential Japanese photographers ( Fukase, Araki etc). What gives?!
Very interesting and informative video. It must have taken quite some work. Well done, I really enjoyed it. I don't understand the controversy myself. He isn't distorting with the camera eg using clever angles to make people look a certain way, he's simply recording what is in front of him. If the people and their environments look tasteless and/or trashy, dirty etc that's down to them, not him. This video deserves many more views.
The timing of the voiceover during the introduction is perfect - it made me audibly chuckle, when "profound sense of aesthetic beauty" came together with the Stars and Stripes speedo... Well played! [I had to stop for this comment - I will now watch some more]
@@aboutphotographyI obviously did notice, and I think Martin probably would appreciate that too. I really liked the video, as it shed some more light onto Parr's activities and portfolio I wasn't aware of. (I had seen some of his humorous color work though.) Thanks for sharing - I enjoyed the video very much. (...and good chapter titles - very pretty and just my taste...) Keep up the good work! Greetings from Toledo (not Spain, but Ohio), doc.
Always liked Parr’s ability to capture colour and flash/ambient exposures. However my administration for him slipped a bit when he was in Glasgow and was charging £10.00 extra for a signed copy of one of his books?😮
That has been that way the las 30 years of street photography in general, people who have no agency over how they are depicted. To me he’s depicting many aspects of society, I see the big picture, is not that we know the names of every depicted person.
I can't say that I like his photos. To me, they always seemed over - lit, unsubtle and distainful. A sneering condescension towards the plebs trying to enjoy themselves.

You're very lucky to meet this legend in person.
Yes indeed 😊
I'm not partial to his style but goddamn, that is one epic legacy!!
Yeah! also, thank you for watching 🙂🙏 I am happy to see you around 🙂
Especially his legacy of knowledge about photobooks. He is a walking encyclopedia.

Dessie Tots: Do you mean admiration, not administration?
An informative and enjoyable episode, not a lover of his work years back I have grown to like it very much indeed.
Thank you for watching! See you around!
Thank You for this video of Britain's probably most important photographer..!! Most enjoyable...
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching! see you around 🙂
His imagery is from the downward gaze and of people who have no agency over how they are depicted. I think he is very over rated!

But is it his fault? Or is it just the reality? 😃
