Saul Leiter is/was, and likely will forever be, the greatest ever made with that tool we call a camera. Only Harry Gruyaert even comes close to being this great.
I just bought two photobooks of both these masters. It’s funny - I went into the bookshop with a £20 voucher and I was going to use it on an instructional photography book, but I walked out with two Photofile books of Leiter and Gruyaert such was the impact of their photos as I browsed the pages! I think I’ll learn just as much if not more from looking at their work than a book that directly sets out to teach skills
His work absolutely brings tears to my eyes; I need to make sure I’m not in public when viewing his art because it’s difficult holding back the tears. I mean, what other photographer makes you gasp this way? As I said, Gruyaert has a similar effect-but everything about Saul (the man, his work, his life, his financial struggles, etc) just works for me
His art really is beautiful 😊 I think Gruyaert has similar vibe in terms of colors and color combinations. Leiter also adds this layer of framing and subjects.
Hey, yeah, where I can I use the real ones. I needed to use 4 to fill in the context. I still prefer the real pictures, but sometimes you just can't find any.
Saul Leiter is a master and this video is great. Nice peronal view on his work. The only problem is that all you nice photography youtubers, are making almost identical videos these days. There are maybe 10+ videos about Saul from the last years. This goes for all the masters. Why not try to dig deeper? Maybe some more unknown photographers work? Not said to diss you. I like your videos! You really are a good content provider here on YT. Bring them on 🤗 Take care.
Thank you for your comment! I am happy you liked the video. I would only add that in case of biographical content there is only so much you can change. In this one I was taking my information from his biography and if two people use that to create content the result of provided information might be similar if they both think the same info is relevant. I agree it can be repetitive. Maybe I will also add an opinion piece in the future as those rely solely on the creator of the video. I do however try to differentiate my content with visual and also audio design so it is not too similar. I also try to produce different genres about the same author which I believe is not so common in this niche. ua-cam.com/video/B-KPSwquTDk/v-deo.html you can check it out and let me know what you think 🙏. once again thank you for watching! See you around 🙂
I appreciate the video very much, and I like the framing of the imagery. The generated art is a bit out of place though - perhaps something typographic, but I suppose 'we do not have to constantly be entertained' beyond your own delivery - your words are evocative enough
I enjoyed this immensely. May I request that you do one on his monochrome work sometime? It is all very different but also quite beautiful. Best wishes Jake.
Thank you very much for watching. I did show some of his BW work. the problem with doing video solely about his BW work is a lack of resources. As you probably know he wasn’t thrilled the movie was made about him and besides the retrospective there is not so many books or interviews of him talking about his work 🙂
Oh I see. My wife and I watched the full movie last year and it was apparent he did not like talking about his work very much. I don't think he saw the point in it really. He preferred to do it than talk about it. Best wishes Jake.
I'm still seeking my favorite photographer, but I think Leiter is on the very top. I will get a book from him. The one you linked is very expensive though. Can you recommend a cheaper one? Thanks for this video.
Thank you for watching! The thing with his book is that they are very often sold out and then the price skyrockets. I recommend either waiting for a new reprint or checking eBay every now end then for good deals.
@aboutphotography maybe you should mention you are using AI generated images somewhere in description. Just to be fair? After all, this is about photography...
Your videos are always vividly beautiful, well done as always.
Thank you very much! I appreciate it 🙂🙏 see you around 🙂

Totally agree - pure poetry ! suntreader ( uk )
Yeah! Thanks for watching 🙂🙏
Harry Gruyaert doesn’t move me. Ernst Haas is the other color photographer that brings tears to my eyes.

@@aboutphotography I recently purchased a signed, First edition Early Color book. Cost a small fortune, but I’ll cherish this momento forever.
@@johnhoey7717 wow, that is something!
@@aboutphotography I also love his b&w work. Fantastic video, by the way; one of the best I’ve seen…I’ve watched it many times.
@@johnhoey7717 Thank you 🙏 I am happy when someone finds it useful 🙂 see you around 🙂
I am loving the videos. Very much. The AI photos though....i hate them although i know they are there to improv the story. But i'll keep watching hehe

Yeah, you are right, some images are ai since it is impossible to get actual representation of that time period. I will add it to the description.
@@aboutphotographyHow exactly are you using ai?
@@FeckinAwesome there are 4 images (marked in the description) that are ai generated
Saul Leiter... underappreciated
