@Carter Why would they be? It's superficial really, it just adds that checkmark honestly. You can click the profile if you really aren't sure, and see that it is the real digital foundry from the sub count, videos, how long it's been up, etc...
I love these end of year specials! They actually inspired me to jump back in to my backlog, and I've beaten more games in 2020 than I've managed in years. Thanks to you!
The Mindset point is super important. Sometimes a game can be amazing but because of where your at it doesn't hit right. Several games in the last few years such as red dead redemption 2 just didn't feel right. I just shelf them until the time is right and give it a go again. Nier was an excellent choice for revisit. And sayonara wild hearts is the biggest gem I think I've ever played. A real hero of mixing music and gameplay, proving a game doesn't have to be long to have impact and having the ability to be played on phones and any console. When I hear that OST I can't help but be happy.
Great to see Sayonara Wild Hearts, I'm all for short games that are big on Wow per second. Games should not be judged on their length, but on how engaged and entertained you are.
I have a friend who has watched pretty much every modern horror gory movie there is, but shelved RE2R after a few hours because he got too scared playing it. He still hasn't gone back to it.
Man Streets of Rage 4 was such a huge grower for me. being a huge fan of the series, i was initially disappointed after my first playthrough but the combos and best method of attack for all characters and enemy's makes it really quite deep, the unlockable's are also fantastic.
2020 was such a difficult year. But one of my biggest escapes was tuning in to as many streams you guys hold every Sunday and watching your videos. There were lots of games that I saw on this video that I've been meaning to get to, and some that I want to own so bad, like Sayonara Wild Hearts. I just want to thank you Try and Coury, for all that you do to keep us sane and entertained during the pandemic. I look forward to seeing more awesome videos and attending your streams as we approach 2021. With all that said...HAPPY NEW YEAR, DYNAMIC DUO!!!!
Love these end of year videos. Always something in there that I've missed over the year(s). Cheers guys. How about a monthly "pick ups" video on games you guys are currently playing or think we should check out? Just an idea. Here's to more MLiG for 2021 and beyond! 👍
You folks really helped me throughout the year to stay sane! Your channel is so professional and well edited! Whenever I felt overwhelmed I could rely on your channel and a few others like Game Sack to calm down my nerves. I hope 2021 is a better year for all of us You guys stay safe and have a great New Years!
[Try4ce] Hah, I do wish I had found a place for it in the video. That was a fun stream! Can't have EVERYTHING in the video though I guess. I mean it's already nearly an hour and a half!
I always look forward to these every year, these year-end videos are great for finding games that fell under the radar for me (like Monster Boy in the Cursed Kingdom, what a game!) and I always add a bunch of games to my wish-list every time. Here's to many more years of MLiG!
Coury 's opinion on streets of rage 4 is similar to mine the art style woulda worked better as comix zone sequel or as an original ip. As a streets of rage sequel I think it's better than 3 but I don't think I like it more than 2.
Star allies is the only Kirby game my kids want to play and they love it. I’ve tried to get them to play the others and they just aren’t into them. The 3 player co-op goes a long way, since they all get to play together and are of different skill levels.
What a fantastic tribute to 2020! I loved everything about this video! The length was perfect, there were so many good games, and in a crazy year - it was a perfect way to close it out in a positive way!
I stared playing DQX myself on the Switch, mostly to see what's been hidden from me this whole time, and for some reason imagined Try talking about it and reviewing it. Somehow I predicted the future I guess. I haven't made it far at all, only got to the first town past the beginning story, but it's a really interesting game to play just because I know so little about it and can't easily look up the up do date info due to the language barrier. Who knows, I may meet up with some of you sometime! Hopefully, I need friends lol
Great job guys! I found several games I want to pick up from watching this. Also it was great to see the transformation of Coury’s “new” game room. Looking forward to what you guys have in store for 2021!
Man, I'm jealous, I am a healthcare worker and while everyone else had all this time to play games, I've had less time than ever. Barely scratched the surface of FFVII remake. 😒
Tomb raider brings back a lot of memories of old friends all of us sitting around trying to figure it out three of us then when three people are figuring out in trying to help the game tomb raider becomes easy I miss the old friends good old days
As a dad with three kids around the same age... the segment with Pokemon Snap made me smile. My oldest daughter and I started to play through Yellow and Red together on Gameboy (original hardware)... maybe it's time for another run.
Mystik Belle strikes me as a call-back to the old platformer adventures that were popular on home computers in the 80's. For example the Dizzy series from Code Masters, or games like Everyone's A Wally from Mikro-gen.
You guys play more than you lead on. But it leads me to how much I love the discovery in these yearly eps. They consistently cap off with Coury pulling out some left field surprise as his favorite game ... And since his tastes are so similar to mine I’m happy to report having played through Sayonara Wild Hearts a few times already. On release I wrote it off as pretentious, but it’s much more rhythm arcade goodness than anything. The whole package is a love child between Amplitude gameplay with Rez music and a Kentucky Route Zero art style
I enjoy these end of year videos. I always find a new game to play based on what you both have been playing this past year. Great job and keep up the good work. Can’t wait for more future videos of anything gaming.
Another great video as always. My top 10 was as follows 1 Kirby Star Allies (I know lol but I enjoyed it and loved that you could have past villains as partners like Marx and Daroach) 2 Super Mario Galaxy (This became my #2 fave Mario game after Odyssey) 3 Streets of Rage 4 (Favorite postgame content ever) 4 Katamari Damacy Reroll (Fun charming game that made me laugh at times lol) 5 Hat in Time (Nice 3d platfomer that I finally got around to playing) 6 Yoshi's Crafted World (Cool game that had fun challenges to it) 7 Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 (Fun Lego game like any other one) 8 Spyro 3 (Didn't care for it as first 2 but still a good game nonetheless) 9 ShaqFu Returns (Funny game and the Obama DLC made laugh in tears haha) 10 Battleblock Theater (Game I mostly played in 2019 and finally finished in February) Only did like 15 games because I'm an essential worker and until July worked 2 essential jobs at once as well as tried reading more but a lot of decent games I played. :)
This episode is my favorite because I watched this a year ago when I had to take a leave from work for 2 weeks. you guys inspired me to play some games I have on my backlog list and best of all introduced me to the japanese translation apps used to translate Japanese games that we have always dreamed of having them translated. I play a lot Japanese visual novels in their native language but ever since you guys showed these apps they made such games and visual novels more fun now that you can understand the dialogue and the story events better. Thank you guys so much and here I am one year later rewatching the episode again.
Ya know, I actually 100% agree with you about Streets of Rage 4's art style. It looks a bit too "Cartooney" if you ask me and isn't that great a fit for the series.
Well that was an excellent year end review. Also super sweet set up, Coury. Very impressive. Loved watching you playing Pokémon with the kids. Though we're the same age, my son is not even 2 yet, but I hope to have similar experiences in the years to come. Thanks for everything you guys do. Here's to 2021.
I like how you don't limit to talk about games released this year. In the end, you gotta play what you like, no matter when it was released. I got to play several retro stuff in 2020, like Vagrant Story, Terra Nigma and Chrono Trigger. Gaming really help to go through 2020...
I wish you a happy new year and hope my best for MLiG with awesome RGB Masterclass Video, Best way to play, Tips and Analogue Frontiers for 2021 ! Merci Beaucoup, Thanks guys !
I like that you can just say apartment door in the slums and anyone who played FF7 (and probably plenty that didn't) will know exactly what you're talking about. I'd argue it's the most memorable video game character of 2020.
[Try4ce] I think it's amazing how many people noticed. I literally did a full PS4 system reboot when I saw that door because I was convinced something wasn't working right.
Can you do an updated tour (episode) of both of your updated gaming setups and studios? How we Make MLiG in 2021. 5 year anniversary of your previous gaming setups and studio tours.
[Try4ce] Hey, don't speak for me, I love it and was on board with the look from the first trailer. :) Coury is the one who was a bit more mixed on it, but I didn't chime in with my thoughts.
Streets of rage four is old school and cool I'm tired of shooting games back in time I miss the old punching using swords or other like sledgehammers and all is easy to shoot a gun but I like games that use your fist or other weapons
probably because you said it so many times in a row but I just can't stop laughing at the way you say "inzomniac" 😁 I'm sorry I don't mean to tease you this was a great video. You guys rock!
I played and beat Paper Mario: The Origami King, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, and the remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. I also played through, and beat, Monster World IV on the Genesis Mini. All fun games.
Great positive message in the intro! Thanks for all your video that didn't help me at all for 2020 making me buy a crampton of retro stuff 😅 I love the kids watching Pokemon snap, reminds me of the meme :"who's that Pokémon"
I bring shame to my house by still not having played Sayonara Wild Hearts, I'll have to fix that soon. Really like the idea of starting from one game in a franchise right to another, been doing that with the Resident Evil games that I've never played. Great stuff as always guys!
I agree with Try's comment about playing a series of games in a row. I was all in on Xbox 360 back in the day. Picked up a PS3 back in March of last year, played through the Uncharted series in about 2 months. Was really fun to see how there was a leap in graphics and gameplay between each entry.
I enjoy these yearly wrapups since they carry the spirit of the backloggery. My favorite new to me playthrough of the ~100 games I knocked off the backlog was the english fan translation of the original Sakura Wars on Saturn. Just a fun, cozy game that was a great history lesson on one of Sega's biggest franchises that rarely came over to the West.
Finally got through this! You guys went through a handful of games I've been putting off or considering getting, so hopefully this extra feedback gives that me push for those sidetracked games.
Great vid guys as usual. Thanks for all youve put out this year! Its helped me get through the usual deal everyones dealt with, plus my house caught fire to top it off! Lol, Heres to 2021 gentlemen!
I do prefer these types of year game lists rather than top games of the year. Cause I can relate to this too much. They tend to be cheaper. The exception for me this year was streets of rage 4. The only 2020 game I bought last year
Man, Try's top game of the year is the same as mine. Hard agree with that choice. And Coury's pick was my top game of last year. Especially liked seeing a larger channel such as yours discussing Sayonara Wild Hearts. Every time you do these lists it makes me think I should pay a bit more attention to what stuff I play for the first time in any given year. Can't believe you put Chiki Chiki Boys on a PVM screen, played the music, got the game and didn't talk about it. Outraged. One of my nostalgic favourites.
Just started Aggelos before I watched this video, meant to pick it up after Coury played on a Sunday stream and forgot by the next morning in true middle aged guy fashion. Good call, it just feels right (down to that very wonderboy slipperiness). Have a great year boys.
I have finished a ton of games this year, some interesting ones that I would of never tried but, I started Game Pass Achievement hunting on the Xbox, and found some really special games, blown away by a bunch. This showed me some games that I might of missed and a few titles I will be shopping for. Thanks as always. The forever back log.... Once I feel I am getting close, I open a new box...sigh..
Same with me on Pokemon! I'm 41 and missed it. My kids are obsessed though lol. 5 and 7 :) Pokemon stadium is great with them! It's good for little kids as it's slow. You can also battle the parents
Totally agree with Coury about Contra. I decided to attempt a 1cc earlier this year (hadn’t played it in probably 20 years) and was expecting a rough challenge. Imagine my surprise when after about a day of practice I had finished it with one death. It’s really not that hard once you memorize it.
Big thank you for the list and the experiences of what was a really hard year, I really love y'alls take on the Year In Review format and I always look forward to it. By chance, did either of you get the chance to play Panzer Paladin this year? Was one of my big surprises of the year, really enjoyed it. Up there with Hades and AC as my personal GOTYs.
Hah, Värnhems Falafel is like 150m from my apartment! They make arguably the best falafel in Malmö (and this town is considered the falafel capital of Sweden to begin with). I knew the developer is located here, but had no idea they put in this local flavor!
My year in gaming I feel like has been vastly different than most and what I have seen in the community. I have been deep in Xbox Gamepass mainly. The only game on this list I played was Paper Mario the Origami King which I loved. This is a great retrospect in what I might want to check out next year, I appreciate these it's how I found out about Wonder Boy and the Cursed Kingdom. Cheers to 2021
I can only imagine the heartfelt & personal opening to this video that touched a little on the non-gaming side of 2020 may not've been what others wanted from this video, but it truly enhanced it for me. Like much of the other videos on this channel, it drew me in and made the video feel less like hearing what "content creators" had been up to than it felt like catching up with some friends. Through the times we agreed, the times we very much disagreed, and through hearing about the stuff I had no opinion of to start with that I nonetheless sat through out of interest for your takes on it, this was a wonderful video that I'm glad I took the time to watch. Thanks Try! Thanks Coury! Have a happy new year!
Good news for you and PSO2. Episode 6 recently released and they really don't have much more coming in the way of content to catch up with, so the game is now "complete" for us Western folk.
Watching!
@Carter Why would they be? It's superficial really, it just adds that checkmark honestly. You can click the profile if you really aren't sure, and see that it is the real digital foundry from the sub count, videos, how long it's been up, etc...

I just tried to buy the game on the NA PS Store and... I can't? Those few minutes of gameplay totally got me hooked and intrigued.
You guys have re-ignited my love of gaming!
Every time I watch one of their videos I wanna drop everything and boot up a classic. Love this channel’s passion!
Respect to Try for putting in the effort to play Dragon Warrior 10 in Japanese. That's hardcore.
Hour and a half of MLIG on New Years Eve? Im so ready!
That Pokemon Snap segment was so wholesome!
Try's gotta catch up to Dave and I on them Animal Crossing hours! :D
The pacing and editing of MLiG videos is second to none. You guys really know how to hit us right in the nostalgia with the music too.
I have a friend who has watched pretty much every modern horror gory movie there is, but shelved RE2R after a few hours because he got too scared playing it. He still hasn't gone back to it.
Watching someone run from zombies has nothing on actually running from zombies.
I don't want kids but your kids chiming in with you in Pokemon Snap was wholesome af.
Cheers, you two! What a fun year with the channel! So grateful for MLiG in 2020
Your studio has become very awesome!! Wishing everybody out there a healthy 2021!!!

One game that everyone should try, Sackboy A Big Adventure. I am having a blast with its platform mechanics .
This is always my favourite episode you guys do every year. Nothing gets me more fired up to attack my backlog.
[Try4ce] Just giving back for how much mileage my NES collection got out of that Top 10 Hidden Gems video you did in 2014!. :)

Such an awesome retrospective. I didn't think I'd sit though the whole thing, but I loved it from beginning to end

3 Streets of Rage 4 (Favorite postgame content ever)

7 Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 (Fun Lego game like any other one)
8 Spyro 3 (Didn't care for it as first 2 but still a good game nonetheless)

This man made an hour and a half long video to tick us into listening to him talk about his Animal Crossing island. Bravo.
Totally agree with Coury about this being a bad year for new consoles and not being excited about it. It was nice to hear someone else say it.
Just started Aggelos before I watched this video, meant to pick it up after Coury played on a Sunday stream and forgot by the next morning in true middle aged guy fashion. Good call, it just feels right (down to that very wonderboy slipperiness). Have a great year boys.
Love your channel! Happy New Year everyone! 🍾🥂🌠
Coury your new space looks great!
Same with me on Pokemon! I'm 41 and missed it. My kids are obsessed though lol. 5 and 7 :) Pokemon stadium is great with them! It's good for little kids as it's slow. You can also battle the parents
Love your new gaming basement Coury!
Glad you put Sayonara Wild Hearts, one of the best game i've play since a long time ! You had a good year :)
Happy New Year!!!
I played through both Age of calamity and Dragon quest heroes 2 this year and I recommend both
Was on the fence and now you sold me on Wild Hearts. Thanks for the great work! Awesome channel as always.
You guys are the best on UA-cam. Best regards from Brazil!
Totally agree with Coury about Contra. I decided to attempt a 1cc earlier this year (hadn’t played it in probably 20 years) and was expecting a rough challenge. Imagine my surprise when after about a day of practice I had finished it with one death. It’s really not that hard once you memorize it.
I just found them today by the ps2 rgb vid and I have been hooked since. Thanks for the S-Tier content! I can’t believe it is free!
Shout out to Tim Rogers
He's simply the greatest.
I love Tim more than all of you
Thanks for all the memories, guys!
Games provided a huge service this year distracting us from the World burning.
Noita and Hades were my favorites
Big thank you for the list and the experiences of what was a really hard year, I really love y'alls take on the Year In Review format and I always look forward to it.
By chance, did either of you get the chance to play Panzer Paladin this year? Was one of my big surprises of the year, really enjoyed it. Up there with Hades and AC as my personal GOTYs.
[Try4ce] I have not played Panzer Paladin, but I did order it from Limited Run Games (went up for pre-order a week or so ago). Looking forward to it!
@@mylifeingaming Nice! I had a feeling it was a "wait for the physical" kinda situation if you hadn't, I hope you enjoy it!
Hah, Värnhems Falafel is like 150m from my apartment! They make arguably the best falafel in Malmö (and this town is considered the falafel capital of Sweden to begin with). I knew the developer is located here, but had no idea they put in this local flavor!
I ended up enjoying this episode much more than I had expected! Thank you ❤️.
Cheers to 2021
This annual update is always so much fun to watch
Such a fun and relaxed fell-good episode. Thanks guys!
I agree, PSO2 got to be too overwhelming for me as well. I even had friends that I played with but we dropped it in a week.
Good news for you and PSO2. Episode 6 recently released and they really don't have much more coming in the way of content to catch up with, so the game is now "complete" for us Western folk.
