People are saying that Augustus is too forgiving but I'd say it seems right, with a world with psychics in mental health and compassion and empathy would be WAY up there since they could understand the human mind more in depth than we ever could
Well people who are saying Augustus's words are too forgiving are right, but it makes perfect sense for Augustus to be saying that given the context of the personal anger and grief he might be experiencing against and for Nona in that moment, and he literally didn't have as much bandwidth for all the other victims and their families in that moment.
I'd argue that a psychic with a lot of compassion and empathy that's a bit less emotionally compromised would understand perfectly why empathy for Maligula shouldn't overshadow empathy for all the poor families and dead protestors, some of whom might still not have gotten much closure on exactly what happened to their country.
Augustus isn't wrong to feel what he feels though. My personal take is that when he says she's the one who suffered the most, it's specifically in the context of his own trauma and him figuring things out and realizing that as much as what he's personally gone through, she's gone through worse. In between the two of them. It's obviously not a competition, but his thought process is very understandable and relatable. His words shouldn't be taken with the context of everything Maligula's done in regards of other people as well though. Again, it's specifically about how he personally feels about what was directly done to his mom and his family.

I loved Razs smile at the end
I think it helps he was told or understands the greater context of everything that happened. Ford ironically in giving them false memories and such also more or less saved their family ironically. While the beginning part is fake, the memories made afterward were still real.
I say that it’s in-character with Augustus. Not sure if I’d describe his thoughts as “forgiving,” moreso contemplative. Combined with some direct understanding of the mind as well as his strong potential as a psychic, his capability may just make it easier for him to keep temper while processing complex situations.
Like Nona, he was the biggest vocal presence against the talk of Psychics. In the end (of Psychonauts the first), he became supportive of his son once considering Raz’s feelings and implications of the monstrous Augustus. Although he believed in the curse, and probably still did before Psychonauts 2’s end, he became more outwardly open about the topic of psychics - even among family.
Then, when waiting in the Questionable Camp Grounds, no less than a couple days after turning his opinions on Psychics, he begins to try to hone his potential and powers, partially and possibly in an effort towards become closer to Raz trying to find ways to better relate and support him.
Psychic or not, I would say that empathy and contemplation are fundamental facets to Augustus, likely independent of his Psychic capability. He seems to take internal conflict well, has excellent recognition of why someone is hurting, and generally doesn’t want to wish ill on anyone, even less his own family.
I appreciate that Loboto sent his kid to camp even if he put everyone’s brains in jars for a while. It means he doesn’t hate the idea of his kid being a psychic as much as his parents did.
He did take his own son's brain out, if Bobby is his son.
@@Dragon_Lair Yee, but technically he was forcing his assistant to take out kid’s brains, everyone’s brains left sitting around apparently weren’t good for fighting and were easily collected and rebrained later. He might of done it to Bobby by accident and just planned on putting his brain back in after he was done with the job.

True, but Bobby still got to the camp legally, and Loboto said that he left his kid at the camp suggesting that he's the one responsible for picking them up. I'm guessing it was another parent who dropped them off
Yknow yeah thats sweet. He did steal his own kids brain but he was supporting their interests i suppose.

I often can't stand female VAs in these types of games, but here everyone was so perfect
One more relationship you could have shown was Raz's relationship with water. How the Hand of Golochio rather than dragging him down holds him up instead.
Also you no longer take damage from falling into water, how cool is that.
Now that is a cool way of showing that he has overcome his phobia
I find it so interesting how Raz sees his father as this psychic-hating villain in the first game, when Augustus turns out to be probably the single most kind, understanding and compassionate character in the series, as far as I can tell. He goes through so much, all because a psychic messed with his mind, lied to him about his mother's fate, and supplanted her. It'd be entirely understandable if his wariness of psychics came in full force as a hatred for Ford, and yet... he can't bring himself to be angry with the man that messed with his family, because he knows how much Ford's been through. He can't be angry at his mother's killer, because he knows she's the one who suffered most.
Instead, throughout the series, he reconciles with Raz, encourages him on the path he wants to take, and despite everything, becomes open minded to his nature as a psychic, and thus other psychics, and while he admits that he needs to let it all simmer and sort it out in his mind, he's ready to accept Nona as part of the family after everything that happened, happy to get over the trauma of the water curse that haunted his family for so many years, and is optimistic about the future.
I wish we could all have our own Augustus in our lives.
Every earth-shattering realization in Augustus' mind is a new door opening.
Nona isn't his real mom? That's okay, he has a real mom he misses and an aunt who still gave him love and support his whole life.
Water curse was a lie implanted by Ford? New circus acts now that he can touch water.
Discovers he's a psychic? Explore the world of psychic powers and begin training as another agent OR use it as circus performance, it seems he's split on both ideas. Also, bond with his son that bailed on him completely unlike the rest of his family.
Ford did a terrible thing? It's morally ambiguous and Ford's been to hell and back, let bygones be bygones.

Ford probably suffered the most out of the Psychonauts even amongst the founders to a point his mind was fractured with I'd assume to be D.I.D. and PTSD but yeah he is a man hom put the right thing to do over what he wanted to do. Also Augustus in the 1st game was protective of Raz, not exactly hating psychics but more fearing what others would think of his son's abilities and feared for his son's safety cuz being a psychonaut is essentially a mental spy/soldier/agent which is a very hazardous occupation (e.g. when Nein and Vodello were debrained by Loboto or the fact the camp is crawling with mutated dangerous animals) but Augustus was one Heck of a dad to Raz and the revelations he had just helped him be a better parent (and circus leader)
Because Razputin was just a kid and August wasnt the best father
Considering the dialogue if there ever is a psychonauts 3 you can garuntee hydrokinesis would be a new ability.
And maybe cryokinesis, animal control, and the ability to create trampolines like the other guys
it would be great to see 3 but for now i think the psychonauts need a vacation before the world is in danger again.

@@chrisidowdell Yeah, the funny thing is that despite the HUGE time gap between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd games (I'm counting Rhombus of Ruin). In canon Psychonauts 2 only takes place like a week after the 1st game at most
I’d bet hydrokinesis would have raz swim deep in water, bounce him up high when he’s on the water surface, and on land/air it could work as an improved levitation if you have enough water in a bottle
And if you combine with clairvoyance, you can look in the tight spaces of water
It makes me happy to see Raz and Lizzie dunking on Norma after the shit she pulled.

I'm just happy they acknowledged she fucked up. Most stories would go along with her bullshit of "helping" in the end. Norma only made things worse.
I just noticed lizzie and norma were sisters...they are pretty similar and one specializes in fire and the other in ice damn

Yeah, I especially like how Augustus gets excited when you mention new potential acts. I feel like Raz would mention the circus to help cheer his dad up after all the stuff he went through.
Augustus Aquato is definitely one of the best video game dads.

@@AlexSchmid-TheAceofSpades yeah! he's made mistakes and hurt his kid, but he's learned from it (quite quickly, too!) and is now doing his best to support said kid. he seems to be a pretty kind and understanding guy in general
I hope if they do a 3rd game, that we get to spend more time with Lili and Raz's family. I feel like we didn't get enough with them.

We didn't get nearly enough time with Lili. Heck, I think I would have settled for a few hints that she had her own plotline going on in the background.
Yeah I hope they continue the story of Psychonauts if not as a game then as a cartoon or graphic novel.
What if for a third game instead of playing as Raz we play as his sister or another member of his family.
That talk with Raz's dad, fuck that's so earnest and genuinely heartfelt. It's not about a game at that point. It's emotion.
There’s also Adam, if you talk to him in the Atrium after the end he reveals he’s added Raz to his “History of the Psychonauts” project

i hope we get it by entering razes mind and confronting his fear of water i know technically went in to his mind but both of those times it was interfered with by oleander
@@aawallace98 he isnt afraid of water anymore by the end of 2, he just doesnt know how to swim yet so water is still a "hazard" but the hand doesnt hurt him anymore.
He even says when talking to coach that he is learning how to swim now.
I’m about done with 2 and now I’m already considering what they could do for a 3rd. The second game is so good!
Water powers would line up pretty well with a plot about finding Helmut's body. Double Fine did a great job of creating a satisfying conclusion while still leaving some threads open for a sequel.
I love the conversation between raz and his father. It's a very realistic depiction of a father and son having a mature conversation about an intense experience both went through
Well, while we're all debating who Laboto's child is, I'm just sat here thinking 'I can't believe the entirety of Raz's story happened in at least a week. ONE WEEK!'.
One day at camp apparently,
Immediately off to the Ruin, then 3 days later off to the Motherlobe, and then ending on maybe Day 4/5 after the ending fight.
Poor kid's gonna need a lot of sleep XD Get that mental energy back up.
This was well worth 50 quid and I'd happily wait another half my life for a sequel. (I'm 30 currently, so...)

The unauthorised brains in Ottos lab would make for great DLC, including Otto himself and maybe one more physical world exploration place
I was hoping to see Raz and lili have a heartfelt moment ever since his dad told him in the questionable area that you should tell her how you feel.
I like using clairvoyance on the REAL truman. If you do, he sees you as a handsome courtier! As in, he's happy Raz is interested in his daughter! He approves of the littlest Psychonaut!
I wish the interns were more involved in the games story. Like an intern would join you for a certain person's mind. Like how Lilli was helping Raz navigate through Nick's brain. Dogen's Grandfather was Lizzie's mentor so it would have been awesome if she helped fix his brain.

Agreed. Doing side quests for them is fine but all we get is them helping a bit when breaking into the casino and dialogue inside Holis mind making them forgettable once you start the Ford quests.
Yeah those Psychonauts badges would feel more earned
Especially for Norma. Her biggest contribution to this story was being an arrogant brat caused things to get worse. Then when she gets the badge she complains about being a "Junior" Agent.
Like girl count your blessings that you didn't cause Maligula to sink the Motherlobe.
If we're lucky, maybe they'll do that in the form of a dlc.
Seems like after all the tragedies from the past, it took a young psychic circus boy and his hotheaded girlfriend to set everything right for their friends and families.
There maybe some emotional scars from the truths for now, but they'll fade away in time.
Now if only that hotheaded girlfriend had more screen time with Raz. Or his family. I bet she'd get along great with Frazie.
@@Dragon_Lair yeah this my only real complaint about the game. i enjoyed it a lot but lili was my favorite part of psychonauts 1. her role in the game was so small, she didn't even kiss raz again :(

This game makes me so happy. Every single moment of playing it brings Joy one way or another. Especially here at the end, it makes my heart hurt seeing crulller and Nona together and happy.

I love that the moment you talk about camp Lili is trying to stop Raz because she thinks he'll mention the kissing and Truman views Raz as that typical boy coming to pick your daughter up for a date stereotype.

Honesty, with the way he joked about kissing at camp, Lili’s probably glad he doesn’t know about that or their kiss. Yet.
He knows, or at least suspects. I made a point of checking every character with clairvoyance after beating the game, and in Truman's case he sees Raz as dressed up for a school dance. Complete with badly fitting suit and damaged flowers. I don't know what Lili told him, but he sure has a good idea what's going on there, lol.

This game was so much fun and such a breath of fresh air the fact that it only took me 31 hours to beat it 100% and how I know I'll be in my 40s by the time they make a psychonauts 3.... Damn you double fine lol
I love Hollis so much. I'm so glad she didn't end up being the mole. I was worried for a bit in the beginning.
I also love Augustus. He is so level headed with how he is handling everything. He doesn't entirely know how he feels yet and he is giving himself room to figure it out, all while minimizing his judgement of the other people involved because he can empathize with what they went through. Such a mature way to process the situation.

Maybe his full name is “Robert Zilch-Loboto” but he just goes by “Bobby Zilch”?
While most considered Bobby Zilch to be Dr. Loboto's assumed child, I think my highest possibility could be Dart (AKA Alpha Raz). Besides Bobby, he also has blue skin like Loboto and he's one of the campers whos brain hasn't been stolen. He was also shown hiding inside a Port-O-Potty at the end of the first game.

I assume that we maybe getting a dlc pack that's set in whispering rock, which would lead to a possible sequel. That's what I think though. I also believe that phobias should be the next step in this game series.
I can picture so many stories there that they can use: The suicide cheerleaders who want to start a death cult or that one kid who thinks he's an alien. Heck, maybe someone finds spare brain tanks Oliander set up and it's up to the interns to take them down? I really want to see.

@@polyhex We never did get to go inside Otto Mentalis' brain. Maybe the machine he's making to get Helmut's body out won't work so Raz goes inside him to see he's a perfectionist in a collapsing cyberpunk dystrophy.
If we get Psychonauts 3, I wanna see Raz aged up a bit.
I love and appreciate these convos so much! It's so satisfying, not many games give you this chance to see how the characters are after the adventure.
I respect augustus, Going through so much conflict over his memory, but still seeing nona as family and someone he understands she is as confused as he is on the matter right now, but still remembers her as the woman who raised him and see's her as a victim of the poor management of the entire situation the 6 put them through.
Everyone is talking about lobotos child but can we talk about how he called Sasha "the green man"?
im not asking for a psychonauts 3, im pretty happy with the game being final, but a camp DLC would be really cool.
I dont like franchises but psychonauts has one of the best potentials for a franchise in gaming's current landscape

We kind of did do a psychopath. Maligula was the inner embodiment of a psychopath. Psychopathy is the final boss, or more just antisocial behavior, lack or empathy, or violent criminal behavior.
As for a cult follower, Nick Johnsmith's mind was kind of a someone who became a cult follower of Maligula, but his motivations are more due to extreme radicalization because of some heavy trauma.
ARGHHHH!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S OVER!!! Damn I hate when a masterpiece game comes to an end.
It makes me wonder if there are other extremely powerful users of other psychic powers in the psychonauts universe that other countries use in their military.
I'm surprised theres a Post game at all since the first game didn't have one and you had to leave Lili up in Loboto's tower if you wanted to clean up the Last Real World collectibles without missing them permanently.
Does Make Sense To Have A Post-Game Though, In All Honesty
To think, the past games in old model consoles which gave us so many questions, their sequels in the new ones would give us the biggest plot-twisting answers.
E.g. Ratchet & Clank for the Lombaxes and Zonies, Jak and Daxter of their birth time, Destroy All Humans of ancient Furon powers like stopping time, etc.
I hope they make a new psyconuat 3 because we may be able to see more of the world and we can maybe go back to the camp to find out who laboto. Kid is I like to see if raz. gets to team up with him or her and I think it so sweet that Ford and Lucy are making it work that means raz. may get a legend for a grandpa / uncle. If you think about it Ford has been like a grandpa to him😄
It's great that after the ending you can talk to everybody and hear out their emotions about all the stuff, BUT what about Compton and Cassie where are they?

Theres one alot of people seem to miss: the Gristol Malik inside his own mind. He seems to be alot more thoughtfull of what he did then the conscious one.
Nice. I think you missed some stuff with Adam in the Atrium, pretty minor but it is a nice moment to see Raz proud to be part of Psychonauts history.
Psychonauts really did go and say "fuck the Geneva convention" didn't they?
After hearing what hollis said about experimenting it makes me think Gristol’s lack of trust about the Psychonauts more understanding.

Ok. Nona still being Nona with the "stay away from the water" cracked me up. Now, I hope this gem sells well enough. I dont have an xbox nor the money to afford one, but... I hope people buy this game and keep telling so many good stories
I'm there's a sequel where they go after international criminals but also we get to go to Grolovia since its been a major place a part of the story.
You missed Adam, in the main atrium. He's made a really nice addition to the monitors showing the history of the Psychonauts.

the fact that Lili never had any interactions with Raz's family is nothing short of a complete and utter tragedy.
There was so much potential there for the Aquatos to either coo and tease Raz over the fact that he had a girlfriend or go full over protective family on her and make sure she was good enough for their little Pootie.
Otto is the villain of Psychonauts 3, and you can't convince me otherwise

I hop they consider make dlc content, for this game, i loved it but i don't know felt like some meat was missing.

I love all of the different personalities each character has in this game, especially the flaws they gave to each character but kept them all redeemable. Apart from ‘Nick’, he literally has no redeemable features

Loboto could be Bisexual or something that doesn't restrict his choice in partners for a kid. We do have a confirmed gay couple in Psychonauts 2.
Either Loboto is bisexual, or if he IS gay, some gay people have female partners out of curiosity or to feel more accepted

I honestly wouldn't upset with Augustus if he was mad with Ford. No matter how much he's cried about it Ford himself acknowledged it was screwed up what he did. Instant forgiveness and redemptions always felt shallow and overly flowery.
