Raz’s dad is probably one of the most insightful and understanding fathers on the face of the planet. I find it hard to believe he was as vehement toward psychics as Raz’s backstory leads us to believe.
I've come to the belief that Raz might've 'bluffed' a bit on the story as kids do. Not saying his dad wasn't against Psychics, but probably not so heavily.. that and y'know seeing how its affecting his son probably made a good amount of difference too.
It’s so wild how Augustus is perhaps the most well adjusted, genuine, and mature person in the series. He above anyone else has every reason to be upset or broken by this affair, but he takes the time to look outside of himself and worry about everyone else.
You can thank the psychonauts for that. They clearly have a "this is therapy, not control" approach to psychic in general. A very healthy way to go about something. Frankly, if most organisations ACTUALLY approached their fields with the same mentality instead of just saying that they do. The world and people in it would be a lot better place. Psychonauts as a organisation definitely has muddy waters but it's the closest I've ever seen to a noblebright organisation without relying on just on angelic effect - coming off and looking good- this group actually has unique means heal and understand people so they have a reasonable justification to rehabilitate people instead of locking them up or killing them. Also sorry for necroing a one year comment.

@@silverwinterwolf2064it's not that he isn't angry or didn't feel anger even a tiny bit, it's just that he has a lot empathy, takes time to contemplate and process and is ultimately very understanding and forgiving taking account all circumstances and intentions that resulted in that. Norma should be the repentant one.
I like that it's not a squeaky clean resolution for Augustus. He's been through a lot, and his is a complicated and messy situation with no easy answers. But he's definitely trying his best.
It's a real human response, and I love it. Psychonauts may look like a kids game (hell, someone here even said "oh it's just a kids game") but it's really mature in themes and characters.
@@dantederi5062 That's one thing I dislike about people who judge a book by it's cover, there are a lot of Games out there that turn people away just from how it looks and its a shame that so many people will miss out on such interesting plot lines and dark themes. Augustus is being really open-minded about all this. He has a right to be angry at his aunt for killing his parent s, at the psychic 6 for their experiments making Lucy that vulnerable, and especially at Ford for altering his memories. But Augustus realizes the psychic 6 have also suffered and did not plan or want things to happen as they did.
"Augustus is being really open-minded about all this." I guess realizing what doing the opposite did to his son (as shown in the last level in the first game) caused him to be a bit more understanding.
It's not really open minded it's more that there is literally no direction to reasonably put the anger. He can't aim it at the psychonauts because that's where his son has chosen to grow. He can't aim it at Lucy because despite her killing his mother and father she also raised him into adulthood and helped raise his children. He could take it out on Nick but how could he do that when Nick is already being punished for his actions legally? Reasonably the only one he could take it out on is Ford and there would be no fight there, Ford would agree with everything launched at him and yet he would still have to say it was the only option and Augustus would have to agree because it was the only possible way. It creates a very realistic view of tragedy in the modern world, very rarely do we have an opportunity to actually get revenge in a way that makes up for the loss so all you can do is ponder it.
@@ThatBugBehindYou yeah, in real life, in the rare occasion you're able to meaningfully lash out at the people who've hurt you, it rarely if ever undoes the harm done, certainly not emotionally. Shit ain't so easy.
And technically, Maligula is many people’s fault. It is Malik’s fault for using Lucrecia as a tool, instigating her to see herself as destruction after the Valermo Dam Incident but the fact that she was already used as a force of nature didn’t help. While the Psychic Six certainly didn’t harm her they contributed to it by practicing her powers. Finally, Ford shook up Raz’s family and made Lucrecia a ticking time bomb. The blame is multifaceted as mentioned earlier, and everything is dealt with as mentioned earlier. Of course Augustus is rather accepting of everything. There is nothing left to do. (And as “Nona” Lucrecia did had great times and memories with her new family, so I doubt he would be so quick to dismiss Lucrecia and banish her away from the Aquatos.)
11:22 the opening interaction with Sasha and Milla absolutely tickles me, lol. It's like when parents know their kid is really proud of something they did even if it's small, so they REALLY play it up so the kid can bask in it just a little longer. Except in this case it's Raz saving the world again for the second time in the same week and not like, a kid getting a 100% mark on their spelling test.
To be fair, Agent Aquato is a pretty spiffy title to earn for himself. I further like how Raz is more delighted that they recognize him as a fellow agent rather than the recent defeat of Maligula.
6:40 "He thinks if he can get me on the canoes, I won't be able to resist his advances" "Ok, that's enough" "He's right" - brilliant line delivery all around.
The entire series so far has been less than a week. In less than a week, the following happened: Raz gets to go to a government training camp and train to be a Psychonaut, unlocking 8 psychic powers, Oleander finally gets over his childhood traumas along with Raz, Raz SAVES THE HEAD OF THE PSYCHONAUTS, Raz becomes an intern, learning an extra 3 new powers and becoming a Junior Psychonaut afterwards, Raz helps Helmut Fullbear regain his senses, Compton Boole overcome his self judgement, Cassie O Pia rediscover her true self, Bob Zanotto get over his alcoholism, Ford Cruller fix his mind, and even manages to help Maligula stop being... Maligula, SIX of the Psychic Six's total members. Bob and Helmut find out they're both still alive, and start planning to recover Helmut's body, Raz discovers that his Grandmother is actually his Grandaunt and also a former member of the Psychic Six AND the Deluge of Grulovia, Raz stops the Grulovian Gzar's plan to resurrect Maligula, and Raz finally helps his family find out that they were never actually cursed, and that it was just a subconscious method of stopping Nona from recognizing her Hydrokinesis.
I really find it BS that Raz was given junior psychonauts rank. The kid basically singlehandedly reunited the Psychic 6 and solved all their mental problems, and took down the most dangerous psychic known in all of psychonauts history. Regardless, I do hope a 3rd game will come around. I really enjoyed the creativity of the first game, and I like how it was applied here too.
I mean, you gotta take into account that he's still only 10. He's absolutely super mature for his age, and he did do some ridiculous stuff, but he's still *literally* a junior.
the 'kid solves adults problems' is also a really common crutch in writing. it'd be nice if the adults could have done a little more than be perpetually wrong while roiling around helplessly
Can we all just appreciate Augustus? He's not only understanding, but also considerate... Sure, he could be mad at Nona because of just who she really is, and what she's done, but... At the same time, she's also suffered, and he knows that extremely well. Sure, it's turned his world upside down, but he still understands... And with Ford? Again, he understands that yes, he can be mad, he has full reason and right to be mad... But he also understands that what Ford tortured himself much more than anybody else.
But of a Necro I know so sorry but it's a hell of a moment so I had to comment. It's an incredible Real Life moment that every single person will face on some level at some point when looking back on the actions of a past generation and asking "why?" And while there are some cases where bitterness can be justified, for the most part you just have to accept they did the best they could with what they knew and what emotional/mental baggage they were carrying. Few people in my experience actively set out to deliberately harm a younger generation and instead at some point think they are helping. A study of history will show just about everything we consider vile today was at some point in some place (and in some places still is) considered a good and helpful thing. If my father who had a rather awful life taught me anything (and he taught me very much) it's that you pass the lesson of the pain on so it doesn't repeat but not the pain itself, because most of that older generation will not be free of that guilt till they die. In my personal opinion hating them is both pointless and more harmful to you than them. In Augustus' case he knows ford will never forgive himself no matter how well that family heals and that the woman who raised him will never really move past murdering her own sister regardless of anything he says or does.
Yeah he was the only one of the Psychic Six (Seven) we didn't explore the mind of, though he seems to be the only one who seemed to be mentally okay after thier last mission
I like this idea, but the issue is, there would be no real reason to in the game. The reason Raz goes into people’s minds is because they have some kind of issue that they need help getting through, like Cassie’s identity crisis, or Ford’s shattered mind, or Bob’s refusal to remember anything With Otto, he has no underlying issues that are even hinted at, he just seems happy. Maybe a discontent with his role, but that’s pushing it.
@@Glacial7 Plus it wouldn't explain the opening where somehow the Mole's mind was influencing Loboto's mind to keep him from revealing his identity I think
Seriously! For all his emotional intelligence and maturity, he's a kid. A kid who's had to act as a therapist for several incredibly powerful and influential adults, some of whom were also outright dangerous towards him! He had to save other kids AND the very agents he looked up to so much, then face his greatest fear by being trapped underwater in the Rhombus, and then had *his entire family's worst secrets revealed, including that his greatest idol's worst sin*. Not to mention, Olliander and Lobato? Two dudes who tried to kill him? He had to save and FORGIVE THEM. He's dove through so many fucked up minds that it has to have done something to him by this point.
That's probably why Raz's docket is suspiciously clean in the post-game - they're lining up a psychic checkup for him and don't want other missions interfering with that.
Thats why i love that Sasha and Milla tell Raz to take a break, the two understand Raz has done so much. I imagine theyll force him to take a few days off haha.
Augustus really setting a shining example of emotional maturity and empathy for his son. I say let it stew for a bit, and if necessary, Raz can go into his head and help tidy things up any emotional baggage, doubts, and bad moods. Though I have a feeling he'll more serve as inspiration for his son while goes on to help other people clean up their minds.
I really love the fact Raz isn't letting his successes go to his head. In less than a week, he saved not only the world, but the Psychnauts as a whole, without being a fully-trained psychic at that. He stopped Oleander and Loboto's plans at the camp, saved Truman Zanotto from the Rhombus of Ruin, helped reunite the Psychic Six, took down the guy who set things into motion, and helped the one person that was probably the most hurt of all the characters, as horrible her actions were, helping his father and ridding his family of their old fear of water in the process. And at the end, he finally gets to fulfull his dream and officially joins the Psychonauts, the one thing he wanted from the start. So many characters would get cocky, but Raz? He always knew he wasn't a fully-fledged Psychonaut and that he had much to learn. Was he headstrong? Yes, but that's because he was already in the thick of it from the start and because he wanted to see things through to the end, after everything he faced. He made mistakes along the way, but he's still a kid, and mistakes are part of growing as a person and professionally. He remained humble, and that's probably what makes him such a great Psychonaut. Aside from the hiccup with the casino, he doesn't try to go too fast, too far, which is where the Psychic Six and Lucrecia went wrong. They used the Astralathe to unlock powers they were not ready for, powers they likely would've been able to unlock themselves given enough training, but this fasttrack also opened them up for instability. If they had taken their time, built up their powers the slow and steady way, their mind swould've been that much more strong, more stable. Yes, the fight against Maligula was horrible and left it's scars, but I think it would've been managable if they hadn't opened their minds before they were ready for it, making them unable to cope in a healthy way, forcing Raz to help them. Would there still be trauma? Yes, especially for poor Bbb and Helmut, but there's a good chance things wouldn't have gone as bad, maybe Maligula would've never been born from Lucrecia's anger and grief. Gods, I'm rambling again....
I only finished it recently and I got so caught up in the main story I missed many side quests. By the time I had all my abilities I had beat the final boss, so I only got behind the waterfall after the ending.

I just love how Raz has a cool friendship with everyone from the first game to the sequel. The kids at whispering rock, the psychonauts instructors, family members, the intern friends, basically everyone. I don't have a character in the psychonauts universe that I truly dislike.
I hope we even get to have a third game. Now I'm not saying that Psychonauts have to be a big franchise, but a perfect trilogy will be more than enough to satisfy me. I don't know why, but any book, movie, or video game that has a sequel just must at least be a trilogy for me. Just feels natural that way.

Barely started the video yet I can already tell I love Augustus’ character, he’s been robbed of everything he thought was real about Nona, but he’s just, fine, he barely even holds a bit of anger towards anyone, he’s being the most compassionate and decent a person should be and that’s wonderful
I wouldn’t say he’s fine. He just has no idea what to do with what happened. He’s mature enough to know holding a grudge won’t help, recognizes how much everyone else have suffered, and can’t be angry at them because of it.
A dlc where Lili has to sneak into Raz's mind and do a mental check up without him knowing could be cool, Especially if they give her violently different movement options. Imagine if his mind would be super easy with Raz's movement, but way harder as Lili, because she isn't an acrobat or an all around moderately skilled Psychic. She would have absolutely insane levels of Pyrokinesis and Floramancy, but wouldn't be able to do tightropes, trapezes, or other similar actions. Perhaps she finds out something he repressed and has to deal with it?
I find it interesting the game doesn’t seem to shy away from the fact that the psychonauts are actually kinda a shady organizations, experiments, taking extra-judicial actions, etc…

Some of these conversations went the way they did because you didn't finish side quests - for instance when Queepie ran away, that's because that's part of his side quest and you didn't show all locations here
There's also some new conversations in the mental worlds after the credits. Check out Hollis, Cassie and Bob's worlds. Oh, and you missed some of the interns too. There's Adam in the Atrium and Sam in the QA house.
I think psychonauts series for like Netflix or some other platform would be a great idea with it could expand on existing lore and new adventures at the same time and we could see existing characters getting into all sorts of wacky situations
Hopefully it’s just as good or better while not taking 20 years to make; although it’s good since it wasn’t forcefully created within a year or less so other crappy titles with issues.
Yeah give it 5 years these guys take their time like the first game took 5 years to make the second only took so long because of a shit load of budget and publisher issues of course now with the success of the 2nd game a 3rd is god near guaranteed.
Honestly I think they should stop here. Everything has been resolved... The water curse,Ford's mind, raz has joined the psychonauts. No need to draw out the series.
@@RedaFox1 Yeah. I want another Psychonauts, but don't know what else they could do to push the story forward now that everything's been resolved and they got rid of his water phobia weakness.
@@Dante-Balisk maybe tracking down Dr lobato at camp Whispering Rock? They could upscale the original environment, age the surroundings a bit, maybe have raz as a Counselor, with either him being forced to protect the kids as the call to adventure, or being an entirely new character to flesh out the world more. They could have the main plot revolve around another countries Equivalent of the Psyconauts (The TeleKops?) Investigating an international incident at Whispering Rock, maybe requiring the expertise of Dr Lobato, maybe his kid got involved somehow? This game is really good at actually using the great premise it starts with to the fullest extent, so If they decided to make a third game I would have no doubts they would do it well.
Since Psychonauts 2 came out, I’ve been wondering how the series would continue. (If it would at all, to be quite honest I’m very content with the 3 games DoubleFine has given us, but y’know, more content lol) I’m not sure if this idea has been put out there already, and if it was this would be very embarrassing for me, but I would just love to see a game in Raz’s head. After basically saving the world on three separate occasions over the course of a couple days, it would only be fair that he rests and sorts things out in his OWN mind. He would traverse the dream world, fight his nightmares, interact with the mental constructs of everyone he’s met, and most importantly, comes to terms with both the events that occurred and his newly discovered repressed psychic powers. (If u know, u know) I would imagine the characters are like constructs he created in like a reverse-clairvoyance, where we see how Raz perceives the characters, rather than the characters that perceive Raz. It would also be cool to see how his mind looks now that he’s accepted his family’s history and learned to empathize and see their side of the story. Basically, to sum things up, he’s been spending all of his time assisting other people with their traumas and mental problems, now it’s time to sort out his own baggage. Idk, just thought I’d put this out there bc it’s fun to think about the future of your favorite games.

i am kinda curious now, the aquatto curse was mostly just a psychic trick placed on them by ford. then back during the part of the first game during the boss fight under the lake do you think that Raz used Hydrokinesis subconsciously like those hands to have that air pocket down there
It's Lucy subconsciously using her powers on the family, ironically turning into an actual curse that helped them. That's why the water hand waved goodbye to Raz at the end, the curse was lifted and it was showing itself for the last time.
I'd love to see them make a few one-off DLC's for this game which are self contained, single character conclusions. Like looking at helping Augustus sort through his complicated feelings about ford, his parents and Nona. Or a look at Otto's weirdly detached mentality from the rest of the psychic 6.

Literally everybody suffered. We live in a sociality.

Raz gets to go to a government training camp and train to be a Psychonaut, unlocking 8 psychic powers,
Oleander finally gets over his childhood traumas along with Raz,
Raz SAVES THE HEAD OF THE PSYCHONAUTS,
Raz becomes an intern, learning an extra 3 new powers and becoming a Junior Psychonaut afterwards,
Raz helps Helmut Fullbear regain his senses, Compton Boole overcome his self judgement, Cassie O Pia rediscover her true self, Bob Zanotto get over his alcoholism, Ford Cruller fix his mind, and even manages to help Maligula stop being... Maligula, SIX of the Psychic Six's total members.
Bob and Helmut find out they're both still alive, and start planning to recover Helmut's body,
Raz discovers that his Grandmother is actually his Grandaunt and also a former member of the Psychic Six AND the Deluge of Grulovia,
Raz stops the Grulovian Gzar's plan to resurrect Maligula,
and Raz finally helps his family find out that they were never actually cursed, and that it was just a subconscious method of stopping Nona from recognizing her Hydrokinesis.

@@blackdemonknight i actually think he should have been the mole. Would have made the most sense with the lore
I like this idea, but the issue is, there would be no real reason to in the game. The reason Raz goes into people’s minds is because they have some kind of issue that they need help getting through, like Cassie’s identity crisis, or Ford’s shattered mind, or Bob’s refusal to remember anything
With Otto, he has no underlying issues that are even hinted at, he just seems happy. Maybe a discontent with his role, but that’s pushing it.
@@Glacial7 Plus it wouldn't explain the opening where somehow the Mole's mind was influencing Loboto's mind to keep him from revealing his identity I think
Someone needs to check on Raz's 🧠. He's been through more in 3 days than I have in my life!
@@rodanandme Raz's mind platforming tutorial please?
Lmao!

I wouldn’t say he’s fine. He just has no idea what to do with what happened. He’s mature enough to know holding a grudge won’t help, recognizes how much everyone else have suffered, and can’t be angry at them because of it.

True I love lili
Pleeeeeeaase!!! Don’t let her be another Kairi!!!
She can talk to plants aparently so it might be cool
@Leo LionheartXx Oh don’t worry, Lilli is absolutely NOTHING like Kairi.

I like how Helmut responded with “And after that we’re gonna buy a treadmill to rescue Bobby’s Body.”
ah seems like i forgot to visit lilly and her father... thanks to you i feel complete now!

"hi there."
"razputin..."
"i'll leave you 2 alone."
17:19 You know, it only took me NOW to release Norma was voiced by Catherine Taber, you might recognize her for voicing Lori Loud.
Psychonauts really give me a DR STRANGE VIBE
I hope that sometime in the future they make another psychonauts game set at whispering rock where you can make a custom character. Something cheap like an RPG would make sense, I think. The psychonauts IP is robust enough to transition into other genres.
Yeah having an option to be what type of psychic you want to be would be awesome
I have this dream for Psychonauts 3 to have a level editor of sorts. You don't get a boss or anything, but just are able to choose from a set of assets and styles and functionally map your brain out (with certain restrictions of course). Otto's Brainframe would be a good level selector to just jump into a custom brain level just to do some exploration.
I don't know what it would've been, but I wish this game got *some* kind of dlc.
Who’s hoping for a psychonauts 3
