Would be really cool if Milwaukee could do a packout roller with shelves as the main storage rather than a box -> also the removable handle for upright ute tray storage

Thanks for confirming what I suspected about the cart being less stable. I just wish the rolling tool box had a version with drawers, making it accessible without unstacking everything. In my trade I move around constantly and it would get annoying having to constantly unstack and restack to reach the bottom bin.

No worries John. I’m still wondering why Milwaukee haven’t done that. Or even someone else. Companies are copying the packout but not bringing out the bottom roller drawer

I'll sell you my rolling box! 50% off, no?
      Okay I'll do $40 bucks.
I just need to get $250 to replace it with a 2 drawer box leaving me some cash to make my own 4 wheel dolly.
Then I still need a hand truck. But there's no way in hades I'm buying that as seen on TV piece of crap milwaukee made. Literally, WTF...
Would you sign my petition to have milwaukee hand trucks removed from home depot? I guess it won't matter, eventually it will only be special order like thier 20" tool tote is today.

The problem with taking the rolling box and turning it into a rolling drawer unit is that once you put drawers on it you have no wear to put a axial on it for wheels do to the fact the drawers are in the way which is why milwaukee only made packout drawers best option is for milwaukee to make a metal two wheel cart with the wheels on the outside closer to the front

Greetings! I'm in the U.S and recently became the owner of the Roller box. It is in the original unmodified state so far and has been a awesome piece of kit. My work space is quite cramped and often have to take my power tools outside to cut, grind or sand what ever the project is and drag it back in, by storing them in here I can literally wheel out everything I need in one go and not go back and forth a zillion times to get what I want and have to put everything back, quite a time saver.
My main reasons I bought the roller box over the cart was its a box with wheels, I'm not wasting money on a cart and then a box, and in the store it seemed like the box was more sturdy. Height was another issue, I do have friends time to time I go help with there construction projects and to be able to throw my tools in a car trunk means i don't have to fill the back seats up.

    • @brandonhoffman4712
      @brandonhoffman4712 5 місяців тому +1

Yes for sure. Marketing is well represented in the boardrooms of corporations. Engineers, not so much.
So when cost analysis is done with a fine tooth comb. It's easy to be like weber grills and opt for plastic wheels from the makers of Milton Bradley...
I watched a man load the boxes to 400lbs and just bend that bottom plate like it was my wrist trying to carry that load! Only a strap from a 3rd party manufacturer would allow it to reach max weight capacity...
While using a strap is recommended for stability, any good hand truck can scoop 400lbs off the floor...
This thing feels engineered out of this country. I don't feel comfortable with it having an American flag on it.

I choose neither. But conned myself into the rolling tool box, back when it was a much shorter stack.
I'm currently looking @ making my own 4 wheel dollies.
I currently have my rolling box loaded with finishing stuff for woodwork mostly in the way of post finish repairability. Then I have a 3 drawer on top of that as a cutting box. Drills for round cuts @ the bottom, jig saw/multi tool/dremel in the mid/hand tools and blades up top. Then there's my xl box on top of that as a general box. Trash bags, tape, 4 8" clamps, hammer, lixie dead blow mallet, 2 pry bars, a baby pry, slim pry, channel locks, screw driver, 2 4" scrapers, CA glues (med & thick), CA activator. Then on top of that I have my marking box. Speed squares, slide squares, miter gauge, sliding t-bevel, fastcap magshims, deck of playing cards (for fine shimming), feeler gauges, laser measure, 3 tape measures, pens, pencils, markers, note pads. Then I have 1 1/2 box for milwaukee batteries, an open bin meant for trowels and a bit of a catch all, and a 15" tote which I load with things I need throughout the day as I need them to keep handy and organized, also to help get everything to the tool boxes @ the end of the day faster.
It's a lot of crap, but only some of my stuff. I've got festool stacks too, and I'm looking @ building another milwaukee tower to hopefully shrink the one I have.
My rolling toolbox is the only one I wish I hadn't bought. But they didn't have drawers yet when I made that purchase.
I've got a whole other finishing box that's even bigger, a mini metal toolbox with drawers. A husky soft rolling tool case. And still have crap spilling out in the garage...
So many tools! So many good works.

Very good comparison! I actually have Dewalts tough system and their DS carrier. I do like it but alas for my needs ive gone to using a Costco 3-n-1 folding hand truck platform cart. It allows me to not only stack my Dewalt tough system boxes on it as a dolly but also use it as an 800lb capacity dolly for multiple other uses. But most importantly it converts to a 4 wheel cart that allows me to stack my boxes, folding ladders/platforms, as well as other stuff on it up to its 1000lb capacity in the 4 wheel configuration and just pushit for long distances on concrete or semi rough surfaces into or around job sites. It is so much more versatile then any wheeled box or the DS carrier or Milwaukee cart imo. The nice thing about the Milwaukee system as well is you could use some of their mounting plates to easily secure the packout boxes to the dolly as with my Dewalt tough system boxes I do use a strap to secure the stack to the Costco dolly.

Ya, you made a good call. What model hand truck did you get? And is there a different one you've seen you wished you would have gotten?
I'm heading towards a hand truck currently. But I'm hoping to land one that converts like yours, yet has the tank tread type deals for stairs to not mess up stuff like fine wood steps in someone's home.
I'm looking for something that is capable of traversing rough terrain as well as being able to perform in a fine finish enviornment.
I'm probably going to have to make my own 4 wheeled dollies with quality non marring wheels (the grey ones).

@brandonhoffman4712 I currently use the Cosco 3 in 1 dolly that you can get at Harbor Freight. It's around $170 I think. It works pretty good for what I do. Cosco also makes a 4 in 1 where you can fold up the bottom plate which I think I might like better but the 3 in 1 works good enough that I don't feel the need to upgrade at this time. I've personally never seen a rough surface dolly that has the stair tracks. I only know of appliance dollys that have the stair tracks on the back. I did see that Wesco makes a set of rough surface wheels called the Superwheel model#27005 that will attach to their appliance dolly. Looks nifty but a bit pricey. If you need to have one dolly to use for both delicate interior use as well as rough surface outdoor use it could be a good solution. I gotta say the new Toughbuilt system is looking tempting to me. Especially if they actually come out with their dolly options. But it would be a hard swallow to drop the bread to switch over to that system.

I am very glad that this video confirmed that and not the other way around! This was nicely done. PS - I saw another youtube video that showed how to put quick release pins in the base of the roller box handle so that you can take the handle off easily to eliminate the handle sticking up even when retracted, reducing stored height.

I have the rolling box. Wouldn't buy again.
I've looked into the milwaukee hand truck. I view it as junk that should be on a midnight infomercial on QVC... or maybe found in an as seen on TV store.
I'm replacing my rolling box next. With a packout 2 drawer box. For wheels I'm ditching milwaukee entirely. I'm making my own 4-wheel dollies, and buying a real hand truck for traversing terrain and general use.
I currently have to unstack 4-6 boxes off that stupid rolling box, working my way 4 feet down into what I consider to be tool hell.
I don't work on movie sets, I don't know how tall your stacks get, but over here working on multi million dollar homes where those actors live, we need an entourage of tools, and none of milwaukees offering pass muster with me.
Though I still like the system as a whole. Much more robust, and organized than before while taking minimal floor space.

I have both. We’re a small plumbing & hvac company. The dolly is better that way we have to use it as a dolly to bring in equipment or other plumbing fixtures. So it’s dual purpose. We use a ratchet strap to secure say a water heater. Improvements would be longer handle, built in strap, wider wheels to eliminate the tipping and the base needs to be able to more easily flip up and lock up in place.

Commercial construction electrical or anything pipe related the wheel cart having those holders for long handle tools looks super handy. Was working from a truck with ramps, was always kept together in a stack with 2 drawerstacks.
I had kept levels ,3rd hands, and guide rails in rack near the handle.
    Advantage hand truck.
Am now about to become self-employed working from a large suburban where everything will need to be broken down.
Not sure which one will be the winner.
    Hand truck
Pro able to have drawers on the bottom and keeps the stack shorter, holds levels etc,i have extended the axle and mounted wheels outboard and no longer as tippy.
    Rolling box.
Pro axle is nearer the center of load and pulls easier.
I use drawers and the cabinets (tracksaw and beltsander) for every possible tool that will fit.
I will buy a standard handtruck and modify before ever using the rolling box again, and will mod level storage.
Stacking and unstacking is something belonging to 2020 for me.

The roller has a more center of gravity as the weight is more center to axel.
The roller box has wheels on side which brings them forward. Also the roller box was intended to be taken on all terrain as the tyre tread.
The dolly (2wheel cart) is more intended for finish areas. Not really intended as equal replacement as an alternative to roller box which requires the bottom box to accompany you. The cart allows a stand alone option.

Hey mate, from what I’ve seen the trolley is meant to be used almost the same as the roller box. They don’t actually detail the proper use and all the photos are very similar to how the roller box is used. The applications they use it in the photos is how I used it and it tipped over

The wheelcart is extortionate, especially considering that in buying it you're basically saying that you're committing to buying more of the system as there's no reason to buy it other than the fact it can carry more. Ends up being about £248 for the dolley and similar size tool box to the one that comes with the "trolley box" which costs £115. That's 115% more expensive for basically the same product even though the more expensive one performs worse but has a place for your levels. It's just frustrating that they didn't make the dolley better in every way as they should have.

    • @AddictedtoTools
      @AddictedtoTools  2 роки тому +1

They definitely should have made a few changes. For myself, I had packout first. So buying the trolley is an addition. At the moment I use the trolley a lot more as I’m utilising it as a trolley to carry other gear around site, then attaching the Packout drawers and box. It has great potential but wasn’t done right and definitely pricey.
      Thanks for the feedback mate.

I don’t have the 2 wheeled cart/dolly just the rolling box mainly because of the cost & yes I am one of the people that think there’s way to much plastic on the 2 wheeled cart. & just looking at it I just have no confidence in it surviving even one day on a jobsite unless it is babied so I can’t spend $200 on that. I really like the idea & I want it to be built better & I’d absolutely pick one up. The rolling box I think could withstand much more abuse & should have a higher weight rating than the 2 wheeled cart. 400 lbs Milwaukee?!? Really??? Like they must think we’re stupid or their testing for that rating is just out of line unrealistic & the conditions they tested must have been non moving or something. Or maybe they just pulled the number 400 out of their ass in which case I don’t know how there hasn’t been a lawsuit for false advertising yet. Anyone else wanna get a class action goin’? I’d take free Milwaukee tools for life + a nice some of hush money. 😆
