One of the things that got me heading down the road to atheism, after being an evangelical Christian for 35 years-is that my grandson was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder(a combo of schizophrenia and bipolarism)at the age of five years old.We were to find out later that he was also autistic, had epilepsy, and ocd.His parents are christians, and have been for years. The general answer to this from Christians was that it was a trial to increase character or a test of his parent's faith. What kind of an evil being would do this to a kid to test his parents faith or build their character? How about all that suffering that crushes people, builds helplessness, despair, resentment, discontent, anger, and hate? How about people who are simply not strong enough and get destroyed? I think it's true that some people react to suffering and challenge by discovering strength, compassion, and perserverance, but this is by no means the experience of everyone facing adversity. Some people are beaten and defeated by challenges, and piling on more suffering and torment just buries them deeper. Is that the kind of character Cameron wants more of?
If suffering builds character, does that mean people can still build character in hell? And if they can build character in hell, why can't they be released from hell after they build enough character to be able to accept Jesus?
If Cameron had to dodge snipers and Russian missiles in Ukraine, or see his entire family die horrifically from Ebola in southwestern Africa, he might possibly realize that suffering is not a prerequisite to character. Compassion and empathy are, which he apparently lacks.
In the Book of Job, a text devoted to exploring God-induced suffering, three reprehensible traits about the Creator are revealed. The first is that God caused Job to suffer simply to win a bet with the Satan. Second, God shows no empathy or remorse for Job's suffering, or for the suffering of Job's family whom God murdered to carry out his unholy wager. Third, when Job demands that God explain his cruelty, God refuses to tell the truth (it was all just part of a bet) and instead berates Job for asking him to justify his rebarbative ways. God asserts that as an all powerful entity, his actions never need justification or explanation. Ultimately, God is never wrong, not because he is moral or good, but because might makes right. What I learned from the Bible is that when it comes to human suffering, no one does it better, or for more selfish or authoritarian reasons, than God. Let others worship this pig; I revile him.
Art Moss I quite agree and god didn't understand why just giving Job some new kids to replace the ones he had killed (for his bet) wasn't just as good as actually bringing his dead family back to life....just like any common or garden psychopath.

Honestly far too many religious people fail to see the stupidity of their religious beliefs. I was talking to a muslim that was so stupefied by their religious beliefs that when he was trying to defend women covering their faces in public. He claimed that it was the (women are free to choose) but when they go out in face of public than its (mandated). I tried to explain to him that if it's mandated than they can not choose because its mandated. He then came back and said it was not mandated which I replied that he is the one that said it was (mandated). He kept arguing that it was both their choice and mandated at the same time. He didn't seem to understand how two statement that he made *in a single sentence* were contradictory.
The thing is, if my choice were to wear a certain garment in a certain way or to be attacked by random strangers who were unhappy I didn't, I would choose to wear the garment. Yes, Cameron suffering is just character building. Who are we to interrupt god while he is in the middle of one of his character building lessons. Remember this the next time you see; a person living on the street who could use a blanket so they don't freeze to death in the middle of the night, a burning building with people inside, an overturned car on the side of a road, a suspicious person trying to corral a child into a van...
If character is built from suffering... then how much character does the omnipotent being, who gets to exist purely in heaven where nothing can threaten him and nothing can harm him?
Well the answer is easy. God doesn't need to suffer. God is perfect. And how do we know this? Well god tells us so. The same way I prove that I am Superman. Because I said so. It is well established in science, logic and critical thinking that things are as they say they are. Sorry, go to go. Lois and Jimmy are in trouble again. Considering how vague the bible is on the specifics of heaven, I think it would have been more meaningful to simply ask why God didn't have everyone born in a world without unnecessary suffering. Or a paradise of whatever specifics suit your preferences. Especially as the interpretation he likely believes has Adam created in a paradise on Earth, so we know God didn't have a problem with that. The argument has a lot of informational holes before heaven is thrown in, after which it's little more than speculation and unsupported assertions. If he's going to get into all those philosophical discussions about heaven, he needs to start with defining what heaven is, and maybe even provide some indication that it exists.
This is the logical conclusion and was actually practiced by Catholics who would flog themselves to be closer to Jesus and his suffering. It’s one of the reasons it took so long for us to advance and actually fight suffering. It’s a despicable idea.

He must have some really deep psychological issues if he can come out with that crap with a straight face. I mean - that must take some serious self control to delude yourself so badly. You have to feel sorry for someone with that amount of denial. It's a shame because he's quite a talented photographer, and yet he's decided to devote his life to selling vacuous deepities.
Having come from Florida, I want to resent the Florida jokes but, I lived there for nearly 25 years... I wonder if Celine Dion has ever commented on being the butt of Bri Bri's jokes all these years. She probably hasn't noticed...
The "Florida man" meme stems from the state's law where everything that happens in a courtroom is part of the public record. So it's the only state where someone's dirty laundry becomes entertainment for the masses. It's could've just as easily been "Ohio man". The real Florida men that should be mocked in the media are the lawmakers who don't understand the value of privacy.
Late to the party, but... If character development can continue (in some form) in heaven, without the environment of pain and suffering... Then surely there is plenty more development of character in hell that is defined as the ultimate place of pain and suffering. I will develop character in hell and then get the best seat in heaven based on my character.
As you touched on, who's character is being built when a child dies? When a birthing mother losses the struggle that also kills the unborn child? I thought these people believed that a soul was created at the point of conception so, how much character building could have been going on between birth canal and death? Or were those deaths just tools to equip the character of those left behind? I'm beginning to think the word "Love" has a different meaning in the dictionary given out alongside their bible.
suffering builds character yes, but it is not necessary, and it is not obligatory, not all suffering builds character, sometimes it only builds more suffering, but there is plenty of ways to build character that are better than suffering, soe he completely ignores part of reality trying to make his very flawed god to fit in it
There is a far more rational answer to why the world contains suffering, evil and injustice. Because there is no god. We're tiny critters that live for a fleeting moment on a speck of dust in a vast and ancient universe that doesn't care about us.
The Baha'i Faith takes the "suffering builds character" idea to another level. There, the more suffering a believer experiences in their life is a measure of the "tests" God is inflicting on them to purify their nature, and is a sign of his love for them. Indeed, the ability to endure suffering while retaining steadfast in ones faith is highly prized and praised.
That's (suffering builds character) pretty much my catholic upbringing as well. We were supposed dedicate our pain to jesus like some kind of sacrificial burnt offering to show we were worthy of christ's suffering on the cross ... As if masochism was a virtue. I think this was the sadistic Mother Theresa's motivation for allowing so much suffering. The more you suffer the more worthy you are for heaven. Sick.
Catholics praise suffering for Christos! For, "as He suffered", we who suffer, share in our suffering with Him as the Holy sufferer. He who suffered/humbled himself when he suffered in the form of human suffering for us, to relieve us of our suffering. His Holy sacrificial suffering saves us fom our suffering under the bondage to/of sin, death, and the grave. This is how conquer hearts and minds. That's the plan! Sadomasochism anyone? Damn, after all this i need a blood bath!.. A Bath A bath in the blood, The bloody, bloody blood! The holy precious BLOOD of the Lamb. POST CEREMONIAL SHOWERS ARE MANDATORY FOR SOCIAL INTERACTION!
‘Character building’ is literally just John Hick’s soul-making theodicy. Funny thing is that even John Hick admitted that the evils that were supposed to build character were uneven in both strength and distribution. This argument was killed by the guy who popularised it... 🥱
How much character building, can one person take? Even without your excellent commentary, anyone with a degree of critical thinking, would become an Atheist overnight, after listening to this lowlife.
When I was a believer for a while, I read a book about the history of early Christianity, then faith vanished, as many non-lethal diseases do, I read it again, it was all about facts, really dry reading, and it wasn't attacking Christianity anymore. The book was the same, I was not. That's how biases work.

In Mr. Deity you did a good job of telling the story of Job. It is true that God is a shitty designer, he gave us Windows.
Well, at least you have Mac OS and Linux as alternatives. Not so with this world.
@@onesandzeroes I use Linux and Android. The latter for phones.
@@nedludd7622 I also use both, but I'd say Android is pretty Christian in design 😄
By which I mean it doesn't give you much choice.
bad things happen to us,
so we can build character,
which helps us face bad things that happen to us,
so we can build character.....
Cameron and his friends are the most credulous people out there.
Minor nit pick: Can't see the evil god forest for the apologetic gump.
Late to the party, but...
If character development can continue (in some form) in heaven, without the environment of pain and suffering...
Then surely there is plenty more development of character in hell that is defined as the ultimate place of pain and suffering.
I will develop character in hell and then get the best seat in heaven based on my character.
The Bible confirms....
I'm out Cameron.
It's why I also listend to a lecture called "An introduction to Thinking" by Wes Cecil. Note: he has a PdD unlike me.
Religion makes Cameron stupid to build his character
So God 'favours' some people over others with a lot more 'character building'?
3:53 Christianity is just like flat earth cult, internally incoherent
Heheheh, good to see you addressing the confusing numbering you left off with in the last video straight away ^^
I need a shower too! Gross!
A Bath
A bath in the blood,
The bloody, bloody blood!
The holy precious BLOOD of the Lamb.
POST CEREMONIAL SHOWERS ARE MANDATORY FOR SOCIAL INTERACTION!
i always believed we were created for pure entertainment.
‘Character building’ is literally just John Hick’s soul-making theodicy.
Funny thing is that even John Hick admitted that the evils that were supposed to build character were uneven in both strength and distribution. This argument was killed by the guy who popularised it... 🥱
Just roll the dice to create your character! The rest of the table wants to move along with the game already, Joe!
I have heard that hard work also builds character- work will make you free?
It’s all a “just so” story
The whole POINT OF THERAPY is to heal mental wounds, and help CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT through the process of HEALING.
How much character building, can one person take? Even without your excellent commentary, anyone with a degree of critical thinking, would become an Atheist overnight, after listening to this lowlife.
I don’t think he’s a smart as you say he is, BeiBri. You’re just being too nice. He believes in shit that just doesn’t make any goddamn sense.
"Character development"? Mate, this isn't a fictional world that people are watching for entertainment; we don't NEED character development.
Cameron is the best evidence that you don't need a PhD in philosophy to come up with a load of bullshit to defend your favourite fictional character.
He just doesn't care. Cameron has realized selling this stuff is very profitable.
That seems to be the consensus.
And even more profitable if you convert to catholicism
I saw what you did there in that split second. LOL
Lol! 2:03 I appreciate and like this dig!
Should I be laughing at a fellow Canadian? OK, I will...lol!
@@CharCanuck14 If we can't laugh at ourselves...;) She'll be fine!

That’s the oldest Mr. Deity related dig. From episode one.
@@misterdeity I'll need to go back to check that out. Thank you Brian....and I love your channel and wit, eh. :-)
The mating habits and social structures of the Bigfoots are different in heaven also.
I've heard that!
When I was a believer for a while, I read a book about the history of early Christianity, then faith vanished, as many non-lethal diseases do, I read it again, it was all about facts, really dry reading, and it wasn't attacking Christianity anymore. The book was the same, I was not. That's how biases work.
