I powerwashed the shit out of that transmission. My father spray painted the transmission YELLOW. Had to laugh but it was HIS car. Then I continued to watch you paint yours gold/orange.😁
Thanks for showing us the cool Spec parts that will make this swap work. I like to use a star pattern when tightening the bolts for a flywheel or wheel to even up the clamping. Not sure if the circular pattern you use can cause uneven clamping, but I just feel safer using a star for any circular bolt patterns.
Hi Josh. I more or less stumbled onto your channel while looking at other Fiero related content. I am mid way through an LS4 install so your Fiero series is great, and your other content is enjoyable to watch too. I’ll continue to watch along comparing to my swap - replacing a 4.6 Northstar/5spd Getrag with the LS4/6spd F4, non turbo but with LS6 intake, a/c and C4 vette power steering too. Cheers and keep rolling!
I remember when the Fiero was first advertised and they were promising that it would come with a V8 the following year, but of course that never happened.
Love the series, really love the car! I built corvairs in the 70's and 80's including a Crown V8 and a early Buick turbo V6. I'm looking for something to build with my grandson and am considering a mid engine LS Chevy Monza. I'd really like to pick your brain about engine and transaxle options, can you recommend a good reference site? Finally: duuude... please put the series in a playlist for us!
Check them shifter cable bushings mine broke in the middle of a intersection one time the hardest part was withstanding driving in 1st for 3 blocks lol
I have a spec stage 3 clutch in my 3800 supercharged swapped 84 Fiero. It’s a good clutch. Still using the stock 4 speed manual trans from the Fiero too.
The throwout bearing presses against the fingers of the clutch. The pilot bearing goes in the back of the crankshaft and the trans input shaft rides in it. It's been decades since I did my '88 V8 Fiero swap but I don't think the transverse transmissions use a pilot bearing. You are going to really enjoy that once you get it running.
Yes, I'm really liking this turbo LS swap. The way I feel, is if you're going to go through all that trouble, it really should be one that has an absolutely awesome power to weight ratio. What about rear suspension springs? Might have to upgrade those to.
The stock final drive gearing of the v6 tranny of 3.70 should be a great match for the ls4 engine. Any thought on possibly rebuilding the tranny with a Drivetrain.com kit and throwing in a positraction unit in there? I'm just not too sure on the ability of the worn stock trans to handle 700 ft lbs of torque. I am also curious on what stage the clutch is rated at...
Honestly, from a clutch dump, I don't think it could even handle 300ft-lbs lol but low boost and rolling into it, it should last a little while. There have been a lot of people who have said they have been running the 4 speed for years now with no problem behind sbc's. Time will tell lol
Hey man If I was you I would get exhaust studs for a ford ranger to put in place of then manifold bolts, the Dorman part number is 03411, I have ran them in my two 6.0s and a 5.3 and they work great over them bolts
The F23 and F40 transmissions fit it, but thats like an extra $1000 at least. And after talking with some people we got curious about how long the M17 will last lol
What automatic transmission options are realistically available for a Pontiac Fiero? Honestly I would really like to use an Atlas II transfer case if at all possible and find a Jalapeño body kit. With an LS swap for a turbocharged LS powered mid/rear engine jeepish looking vehicle with custom offset wheels and a 3" lift so I could use 30" tires. Or am I trying to change entirely too many things on a 1980's vehicle? Thanks for any thoughts or advice.
I'm going to build something very similar. I have a 86 Fiero I'm going to install a LS4 into also. I however am not going to turbocharge it. Its going to have the LS4 King oil pan, Eldebrock carburetor intake and ignition box and a electric water pump setup. If you could, can you respond with a link to where you bought the flywheel and clutch, thanks I would deeply appreciate it.
I was expecting him to say that once installed, he’d never get to see the very nice clutch & flywheel components.. What am I saying? Of course he’ll see them again.
The Fiero trans doesn't use a pilot bearing. I spent like 2 days searching for one that would work before I found out they don't use one because it has 2 internal support bearings
What wheels are you running in your fiero? I'm trying to restore a 84 notch-back and am looking to buy tires for it. All I would like to know is the size of tire.
Definitely just dry snitched on me when you said the price of that clutch bubba the ole lady was sitting here like didn't you just buy that same clutch for your truck and my dumb ass said yes not knowing you was about to say the price lmao I told her it was only a hundo

@SniderTron3000 trans is my limit too lol but your have v8 tq out the gate one reason i stuck to v6 and went turbo over supercharged dont want the tq to hit till later

The 2.8's really weren't bad!
Had a GT in high school. 60mph at the top of second gear. Super fun😂
Good stuff , this thing is gonna be an animal on the street . All that weight in the rear will make for good hookup.
Good traction and easy power wheelies. Better be prepared when it tries to stand up and drag the bumper!

Yes it does. Still have the problem of starter mounting though. I'm going with the LS4/F40 in my build in my 88.
