This is my first time viewer and enjoyed the video. I am building a French Cleat System that will be combined w/ our current Elfa Garage Organization System that we got 10 yrs ago, which worked well for storage of small tools and stuff. However, since starting my new adventures in woodworking last year, thus getting power tools, their accessories, built JIGs and having residual wood from prior projects, space had decreased exponentially, plus things have become disorganized.
Agree w/ you that having the most used tools visually presented in front than in a drawer, cut the time used to look for them. Thanks for the pep talk of not overthinking and just do it as it will make a huge difference in the shop. I am starting building mine this weekend. Keep up the good work!🙂

There has been some discussion around cleats with 45 degree cuts top and bottom. Do you have any views on this?

Hi, about to build a French cleat wall in my shop and would like to know how thick and wide your cleats are, and how far apart did you put them? Your approach makes tons of sense to me, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the kind words and for watching. I used a basic interior paint that was mixed at Home Depot. It's not latex based and it's not oil based. I'll have to double check for you

Sorry for the delay. My cleats are spaced at 5 inches. From the bottom edge of one cleat to the bottom of the cleat sitting above it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching

What is the spacing between your cleats and what is the width of your cleat?
I used the 1st option with the 90 degree cut on the bottom of my cleats. My spacing is 5 inches from the bottom of one cleat to the bottom of the next. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching

Has anyone tried using 1/2 for the cleats ? In the uk the ply is laughable. 3/4 birch is available but I'd need a mortgage. I have a load of decent 1/2 marine ply strips I was thinking of using
I actually have a friend that decided to use that exact method for his french cleats because 3/4 plywood had such a high cost during the Covid period. I don't think that he had any bad issues.

@@angrybeaverwoodworks: So would you feel comfortable making shelves/boxes/containers out of 1/2” plywood and the cleats out of 3/4” (so long as nothing is crazy heavy)? Your belt sander container looks like it uses both. Thanks for the great info!
@@b-radg916 I think that would be perfectly fine. I honestly do it all of the time. Just like the belt sander you mentioned. I look at the overall dimensions of an item and the weight, then I design a mount. If it's really heavy, or big, I might use ALL 3/4 inch. But I think you'll be happy with your direction. It should work fine.
