In the lyrics she says she is spellbound by a "Galdramaður", which means the person that does a "galdr", which is a word in Old Norse with two meanings, one is song and the other is incantation, spell. The verb "galana" means to sing or to cast a spell. So she was struck by the Singer/Sorcerer's spell/ song. And then proceeds to sing/ enchant us with her own galdr.
Music is very magical.
I got the chills reading this. Please tell more.❤❤❤
Full lyrics ? Please 🙏❤
Muito obrigado por explicar🇧🇷
I love how one word can indicate both song and incantation. It's beautiful, like art but it was created collectively.
Ever feel homesick for a place you’ve never been to?
snokeflake I have now
Valhalla
theres no place like homeland
I've felt more and more homesick for Scandinavia!
Always
Spellbound I am, I am
The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me
Spellbound deep in my soul, in my soul
In my heart burns a sizzling fire, a sizzling fire
Spellbound I am, I am
The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me
Spellbound in my heart's root, my heart's root
My eyes gaze to where the wizard stood

Aside from the pure beauty of this, and her superb talent, I’m struck by the similarity to Native American rhythms and vocal expressions. Probably not news to anyone else, but it seems the bridges between Celtic, Nordic & American Indigenous music, are extremely short. I’m grateful for having heard this. More please.
Most Neolithic people where similar
@@jesseterrell2109 The Neolithic period is generally recognized as ending ~2000 B.C. I’m not sure we know what their music sounded like.
I was referring to modern indigenous native north American musical traditions but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are others with varying degrees of similarity.
@@greggary7217 yea pre Bronze Age which is where native Americans where @ when Europeans arrived using tools and weapons made from stone with little to no metallurgy using animal skins for clothing living a nomadic life. Before the Bronze Age all humanity lived this way and all where very similar cultures.
I was actually thinking this just listening to it. I could easily see a tribe of Indigenous Americans performing a ritual dance around the fire and Nordic men and women, drawn by the sound, so like their own, joining in as if mesmerized. Unity in music.

I clicked here by mistake I have no idea what is this or which language is this but It's one of the most beautiful things I've heard in my life.
iBonnie 2002 it's Faroese
There's about 70,000 native speakers, so it's not a common language. For about 300 years from the 16th-19th centuries the Danes outlawed the use of Faroese in official writing, so it was a purely oral language until an alphabet was created for it in 1846.
It's remarkably similar to Icelandic and falls in the same family of Norse languages, such as Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian.

That´s right!
iBonnie 2002 it's Viking language (Sweden)

The drum and your singing... Just unbelievably beautiful.
I'm icelandic and I always find it so fascinating to hear Faroese. Our languages are so similar in writing, but quite different pronunciation wise. I went through this song, singing the lyrics in Icelandic with a direct translation and it works flawlessly.
Icelandic version of lyrics:
Töfrabundinn er ég
Er ég
Galdramaður festi mig
Festi mig
Töfrabundinn djúpt í minni sál
Í minni sál
Í hjartanu logar brennandi bál
Brennandi bál
Töfrabundinn er ég
Er ég
Galdramaður festi mig
Festi mig
Töfrabundinn inn í hjartarót
Í hjartarót
Auga mitt festist hér er Galdramaðurinn stóð
As you can see, they're almost completely identical with some key differences. I think it's fair to say these are two of earth's most beautiful languages.
Thank you for translating Icelandic and forese youth is getting more in touch with their viking and Norse past this generation I love it
I went to Iceland last February. It was wonderful! I left a piece of my heart there. Hope to go again.
This is just an educated guess, but I'm pretty sure 'Trøllabundin' means here to be under a spell or a curse. It literally translates as 'bound by trolls'. @@siqsa9607

Right now, there are people all over the world who are just like you. They're either lonely, they're missing somebody, they're depressed, they're hurt, they're scarred from the past, they're having personal issues no one knows about, they have secrets you wouldn't believe. They wish, they dream and they hope. And right now, they are sitting here reading these words, and I'm writing this for you so you dont feel alone anymore. Always remember, don't be depressed about the past, don't worry about the future, and just focus on today. If today's not so great don't worry! Tomorrow's a new chance. If you are reading this, be sure to share this around to make others feel better. Have a nice day. :)

i take everything i ever said about spirituality i never had such a powerful feeling in my 40 years and it was spiritual related to her people and us listening same song same time ..that resulted in same feelings same time . i found my mate spiritual partner and now this connection its like we empower each other it you feel complete like a eternal search is over ..ow and yea before this i would have make 3 line text and say something disproving but like i said i feel complete so do my spiritual sens because the separated spirits are hole .may you or anyone experience this i grant you it its i cant describe the feeling . its woawwwwwwwww people have to reconnect to source of being

"Spellbound" (lyrics in English)
Spellbound I am, I am

Spellbound I am, I am
The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me
Spellbound in my heart's root, my heart's root

Close but not quite correct. I think you'd need to posess some knowledge of old norse lore to get closer to the true meaning of her words. Sal is not soul, more like inner or inside and trollabundin does not not exacly mean spellbound but it's close enough I guess. Trolls are mythical magical beings originating from the mineral kingdom. Beings who can shape shift into human or animal forms and lure humans i.e. bind them with their intoxicating charm and wits to possess their minds i.e. bound by trolls/troll-bound. There are certain troll-charms that people wore (and still wear) to protect against such devious miscreants. They could also be quite friendly at times seeking trade with humans as they could not create beutiful or complex things themselves. Search for John Bauer's illustrations and books on the subject. Norse lore is actually quite unique and beutiful :)

Both of her versions are so beautiful: the live seems almost feral and wild, their is a beauty in the passion it is imbued with the live performance...
This is more contemplative , something you'd listen to while driving at night in the winter with a clear sky above you, and the video is pretty.
There are many different versions. The old celtic Druïds used the Sean nós where as the Germanic Volvas practised this style to evoke a trance to themselves and the people around them. The best singers in this tradition would never sing the same song in the same way but they would adept the song to the moment in various ways so it would intertwine with the moment and the people listening to it hitting them straight into their soul. These songs could either evoke emotions like sadness, happiness, strength, fear or bring people to sleep.
This is why folktunes are often pretty simple in their basis, the real magic lies in using different techniques within the song to weave it into the present environment.
Eivør truly does master this art. Trollabundin is never the same.

Eivør Pálsdóttir born 21 July 1983), known professionally as Eivør, is a Faroese singer-songwriter with a distinct voice and a wide range of interests in various music genres spanning rock, jazz, folk, pop and, European classical music. Her musical roots are in the Faroese ballads.
Many of her songs are in Faroese, some are in Icelandic, Danish and Swedish, and the most recent are in English. From Wikipedia
She should go on with her art in Faroese. This linguistic gem of Europe makes her songs incomparably more powerful then English ever could.
She does....

I was driving home from visiting my dad the other day and I go over a lake on the way. This song was playing. To me, I envisioned her singing...calling out to all the souls who had died horrible tragic deaths. Lives taken too soon and in an unnecessary and unnatural way. I had a deeply moving experience listening to this song while I was driving. Swarms and swarms of birds were moving in waves over the road above my car making these undulating shapes that seemed to move with her voice. It gave me chills all over my body and brought tears to my eyes. I see those birds flying in waves above me whenever I hear this song now.

Most beautiful song I've ever heard, found her and her music a few years ago. Love the Norse and Nordic style of music. It brings me peace, can listen to this song in particular on repeat, never gets old.
This music made me go to my altar and meditate. I had so much mental clarity afterwords. This makes me proud of my ancestors and even myself.
Thor's blessings on all Germanics who seek it.
Can someone answer me this: Why does this give me goosebumps? Why do I feel this in my very bones? WHY
Because songs like this are meant to make us feel this way. We are meant to feel like we belong here, to go here forever, and the style is traditional. It’s like our ancestors calling us.
Or to put it in another way, something in you have awakened. Why we fall asleep on what and who we really are.
Because it is actual talent, which is very hard to find nowadays with all the pop-trash on the radio. I'm a music collector... I was immediately impressed with Eivor's voice. Thankfully we have the internet or I would have never found her.
Psychologically it's triggering the religious circuit in the brain. It is a circuit that is associated with awe. It is triggered by very rare things, like fasting for a long period of time, meditating for years, or psychedelic mushrooms. It can help your overall mood, and keep you psychologically healthier.
Goosebumps are a pretty common reaction to music and sounds.
I randomly went to see her do a show last night without knowing her music at all, and... holy shit, man. out of the hundred or so concerts I've been to in my life, I've never heard anyone sound so good. immediately became a fan
I got a chance to say hello to her after the show, and she was really nice. she seemed to get genuinely happy when I complimented her sound guy who did some seriously immaculate work too
Vertu meðvitaður. Ef þú hlustar á þetta verður þú Eivørbundinn að eilífu. Hún er hin sanna galdrakona. What a sorceress, what a voice! Her fate will be how to stay true to heir haunting roots on those desolate rocks (with a nice but pretty unintelligible language) , whilst such a voice should be commercially world-renowned at the same time. These tunes will stay in our minds however...nothing we can do. Wishing you all the best Eivør! You gave much to many already. Just wow...what a voice...

She sings so powerfully and timeless - contemporary yet primal...and,admittedly it doesn't hurt that I can feel a sting of what I perceive as a part of my own 'heritage', as I'm from Sweden. This sounds like what probably the only a few of the best 'bards'/'historians/storytellers' managed to tell before their children, or people at large at gatherings in our shared Old Norse-times.
I'm simply blown away by this magician of a woman....the only thing I regret is not coming across her a lot sooner.....silly me, that used to think that no 'real music' was really being produced any longer. She, with a few other contemporary artists (such as Wardruna, and Einar Selvik, Aurora etc.) have suddenly changed my mind completely!
Her voice takes me to distant realms and shores. She has an amazing throat.. Just notice how she changes the sound of her voice. An exotic person but she touches universal values❤
Desde Uruguay, una de mis canciones favoritas, gracias!

Ubba also loved this...
My soul and my heart is connected in a good place when i hear this music by Eivør Pálsdóttir, an angel from Faroe Islands, i'm transferred back in time to old nordic time, in a longhouse with the vikings and in peace, greetings from a dane. Keep the Old Nordic alive.
Wow this song grabs me and takes me away... so easy to get lost in this I'm in love with this so so much....you become part of the song, the words, the music... beautiful song beautiful words, beautiful voice
This is amazing. Her voice and the ambience she creates are arresting. I especially love the Faroese best boxing!
I was Trollabundin since the first day I saw her light. Beautiful. Thank you for the music.🙏
my mom and I love Eivor and listen to all her online concerts. this is our favorite because of the crazy thing she can do with her voice, we're always trying to replicate it and failing!
Alucinante, no paro de descubrir grupos de folk escandinavo y toda esta música me encanta.
Glad UA-cam recommended this artist - loving her songs so far. I love the drums and contemplative/dreamlike sounds. She's got a new fan.
X2
Absolutely no other Nordic artist is on Eivør's level.
When I close my eyes, her voice gives me goosebumps. The drums are apart of it. I love this music so much.
Incredible, I have heard variety of fantastic songs in different languages around the world from Chinese, english, persian, russian, arabic, french, and etc. and even kurdish.
And I can say, this is one of the best. Thank you for your amazing art.
Arabic is one of my favorites. Ever tried Indian classical?
@@ashwinmiyer6159 No, I am not, I will appriciate if you could introduce me.
@@حانیهرفیعپور for a short start you can go for ua-cam.com/video/uEqYzdz3Zvg/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/kfBvz2rG-NI/v-deo.html
Indian classical music is one of the most ancient forms of music. It has two types - Hindustani (North Indian) and Carnatic (South Indian). The above clips are of Hindustani style which is more popular as 'Indian music' outside India.
Concerts usually are at least 2 hours long. A typical Hindustani concert sounds like this: ua-cam.com/video/0VB7jujlb5o/v-deo.html. See the difference in pace of singing in beginning and end.
I don't know how much you can appreciate, but this music is really complex and intricate. One mistake and
people get offended.
The Carnatic style is distinct. It is more structured and has a lot of emphasis on percussion. This is a proper RTP (ragam thanam pallavi) in Raga Vakulabharanam (this scale is also used commonly in Arabic music):
ua-cam.com/video/-TpOvhJnF-c/v-deo.html
You can see the complexities in 9:40, 13:20, 27:00... song starts at 28:00 (earlier stuff is just improvisation)...The music after 36:50 is really entertaining.
Carnatic percussion is very complex and sounds like this: ua-cam.com/video/DYEh5uXrL4w/v-deo.html

If you can't handle me replaying this song more than 15 times a day then I'm not the one for you 😂😂😂
I completely agree, I feel the same. Most beautiful song I've ever heard
A true Dane. Great singer. Lovely and talented.haunting and angelic. Glad I watched last kingdom just had to seek this voice out. Well done Eivor for writing singing and sharing
Love from Uzbekistan

🇹🇷🕊🇺🇿
I thank you for allowing me to hear your beautiful voice and song.
If it weren"t you I wouldn't know there is this kind of music in the world. This song makes me feel wild beauty of nature.
No matter how many covers are done of this song, nobody will ever top EIVØR.
Beautiful 👏. I don't understand the lyrics but the sound vibration in soul is simple super. Love from 🇮🇳 India 💘 ❤
I hear people ask about what language is this in and I would like to see the English translation, which would be nice. But I think what makes this song so beautiful is the fact that the words she sings could literally say and mean anything. But the fact that it remains a mystery just makes it that much more enchanting to listen too.
Enchanting is the right word! Thats what the song is about
Not necesarily a love song from what I was told. Seems more like brainwashing.
English is too primitive, die englische Sprache ist eine Primitivsprache für dumme Menschen reicht sie aus.
It is faroese
@@richardmelkus7844 Gibt es eine Deutsche Übersetzung?
A song from Mother Nature ,her power, wisdom, and old paths. Slainte from the Gaels and Celts from Eire.Saoirse
yes she have probably celtic dna
Oh, cool, it's almost my last name! That's interesting, I thought it was from Gaelic
I mean, this name isn't my real name anyways, I was looking for a somewhat realistic name to be called on the internet because y'know, stalkers, lol. But it's nice to see the name I chose has a meaning and origin
This is a Scandinavian song, nothing to do with celts
Don't forget Faroese & Icelandic too since they are part of Norse Culture too😄👍
When I listened to "Heyr Himnasmiður", I wanted to find more beautiful songs in Icelandic, and I found this. What a find! Her voice is so perfect and smooth!
She is not icelandic, faroese all the way. Perhaps inspired by icelandic ways, but faroese she is ;)
She's a fantastic artist, and deserves more recognition for her amazing work. And while it would be absolutely super if she were Icelandic, the fact is that she's Faroese. We Icelanders were just fortunate to be allowed to borrow her for a while, and I think most of us are thrilled that she speaks Icelandic and has lent her talent to producing several much-loved versions of various Icelandic songs.
Vigfús Eiríksson I very much agree I passed her music on two friends of mine on messenger and I know they also have friends also I have much respect for this lady she is a beautiful singer any music that I come across the sounds very good if there's has my heart and soul and eases my mind I send it to people I know as I said I agree with you one hundred percent she deserves more recognition I also know another lady singer very awesome one of her sons brought me out of the darkness that I was in much respect to the both of them
She is Norsk
hmmm maybe she are celtic 84 % of the women have celtic dna and 87 % of the men have nors dna
What a captivating experience. From the start to the finish, this held my attention and held it's ground.
I appreciate that you added the letters to the lyrics in real time to the vocals, it helps if you're trying to learn.
Как всегда , чувственно , душевно и красиво!)) Спасибо!))
