      @tmWasted except that's Sigillum, not Sigil.
      Sigil is an English word derived from the Latin word and it's only pronounced Sijil. The exception is the city in Planescape which is pronounced with a G sound, no matter how awkward that is.

    I like the rune child, but in the short time the character is level 1, the level 1 abilities are unusable, since there are no sorcery points yet and you don't get a free charged rune at the beginning of the day (unless Matt Mercer has done an errata on this). If I have a player with this in my game, I might add a free charged rune at the beginning of the day, and perhaps let that evolve into a free charged rune upon rolling initiative if there are no runes already charged. Or something to make it usable at level one.

    • @TitanGamingTV
      @TitanGamingTV  5 років тому +16

      Hey WrittenInShadow, I didn't spend enough time explicitly covering it in the video, but you do have something you can do at level-1 with the power set. You can still spend the action to actively charge a run, without any sorcery points. Since you've only got 1 essence rune in total at level one, it effectively makes it the same as pre-buffing your Aegis ability. Then when you hit 2 you come into the usual action economy I described in the video. Hope this helps -- your suggestions for amping level-1 are also very good, especially the initiative related suggestion. Cheers!

    Thanks for the video! I'm fascinated by the story and roleplay components of this class, but was having trouble wrapping my head around what makes them fun and cool in actual gameplay. The girl I have in mind is 15 and as soon as I read that there tend to be magic casters who seek these rare runechildren, I could see my DM having so much fun with this (I really love an in-depth character so he tends to use my background to create the main plot and build the others into it in a very active way, just since they take a little longer to wrap their heads around their characters). My current character is 31 with a dark rogue assassin backstory, and DM and I have talked a lot about me playing a less repressed, younger character with some magic prowess in the next campaign. As soon as we found this class, we started brainstorming a party of this girl and her protectors where she kind of comes into her own and becomes just as powerful as a defense and buffer for them.
    Anyway, I've listened to podcasts with druids and wizards so I was looking at those classes until I found the runechild, and this video really helped me understand Sorcerer a lot better, so thank you! I'm less nervous to tackle it now.

    @56sketch 5 років тому +7

    Yes! I really enjoyed your insight into the previous classes, glad you're continuing the series.
    Having read through it myself, I love the theme but feel that the runes don't give you enough of a benefit for having to use sorcery points. I don't feel that it actually competes with meta magic. The aegis dice doesn't scale (d6 is kinda low at high level) and using runes equal to spell level just to ignore resistance when you could just use a different spell seems...lackluster.

    • @TitanGamingTV
      @TitanGamingTV  5 років тому +6

      Ah I apologize, maybe I wasnt clear enough -- you get the runes for free any time you spend your normal sorcery points. So if you spend 3 sorcery points to perform a meta-magic, you ALSO get 3 charged runes from it. Its completely on-top of your existing sorcery point usage.

    • @56sketch
      @56sketch 5 років тому +5

    • @Lucasfghjsokfdkjheu
      @Lucasfghjsokfdkjheu 5 років тому +1

      Also, d6 doesn't scale because at higher levels you have a looot of sorcerer points. Theorectically you could reduce damage by 20d6 at lvl 20.

  • @benfrede7991
    @benfrede7991 5 років тому +2

    I love the theme of this subclass and it seems generally balanced. However, if I'm not mistaken, it gives you zero benefits at first level. You don't pick up any sorcery points until second level when you get Font of Magic, which means you have no way of charging your essence runes at first level. Although you gain the Essence Runes and Glyphs of Aegis abilities at first level, they can't do anything other than look fancy until second.

    • @TitanGamingTV
      @TitanGamingTV  5 років тому +4

      Hey Ben -- I didnt make a big enough deal of it in the video, but you still have the ability to spend an action to charge an essence rune outright. So you can pre-charge your rune to get the Aegis effect at level 1.

    Hey Alex. I was wondering on how one would fix the unearthed arcana for theurgy as it seems like it takes everything that the subclasses from cleric have and even taking the channel divinity when you have the divine arcana seems kinda weird in my opinion. As well as the fact you get the 17th level cleric domain benefit at 14th level.

Shouldn't you be able to use the runes to unleash attacks of. pure magic energy, or make spells deal even more damage?(I know thats what metamagic already does, especially empowered spell, but I still think that it would be a cool idea to be able to attack with the magic building inside you)
