I'm heading to the North Rim and staying in a western cabin with partial rim view on the 17th. My first Grand Canyon trip! I'll be turning 50 on the 18th, so my plan is to watch the sunset on the 1st half of a century and usher in the 2nd half by soaking in the beautiful night sky and watching the colors of the canyon change at sunrise. Unfortunately, the forecast is calling for rain during that specific time frame. I'll be happy regardless since there is something to love in nature no matter the weather. However, does anyone have any knowledge of how rain impacts the views at day and/or night? I understand monsoon season can be insane (that kinda fascinates me too). I'm just hoping I don't miss out on the colors...and that the cloud cover doesn't normally last all night. All of that to say...what are the odds of actually getting to see the stars from roughly 7,000+ feet above sea level when it rains? 😀
This video is beautifully made and narrated, and it makes me excited for my trip to the Grand Canyon next month! Thank you for sharing this with the world!
I had visited the Grand Canyon in 2017 and had a chance to see the light pollution free night sky . OMG I cannot simply describe the beauty How infinitesimal we are in this whole scheme of things. I had to wait for 68 years in my life to enjoy this beauty.
Miss this the past few years. Amazing experience. The guides so knowledgeable. If people can get there it's highly reccomend. Takes some planning & lov of our natural world.
@@arnavvaishnav1590 yes. They did this for like 4 years or so. Not past 2 years. The sky is so clear & clean. Gives a different perspective. Some people don't like the long drive. But plan for the distance. Make sure u get a room in advance. I went in May. And was actually kinda cold & very windy. I was not expecting that. If u haven't gone. Take a friend. Its memorable. No bells & whistles. Just nature.
A True Masterpiece ... Thank You Arizona Highways Magazine, Tyler Nordgren And Rader Lane, For Sharing This Breathtakingly Beautiful Video Clip. I am Always In Awe Of God's Amazing Beauty!
Very well done, the best episode of the series. The time lapse sequences, interviews and writing are excellent. Great job of telling the story of one of the treasures of this magnificent national park, a pristine night sky.
Every two year I and my hiking/running buddy hike the RRR. Leaving Notth rim at 4:30am the sky is amazingly clear, a cold wind come up the N Kaibab as we head down. As the sunrises we are a few miles down and the colors of the canyon walls appear - magical and addicting. Heading out sept 2020 for my fix - I hope 🤞
recycle as much as you can and try not to be wasteful. Try to find alternatives to things that damage the planate, like plastics. Try to refrain from wasting energy/electricity. Whenever it comes to buying a new car consider a hybrid or electric car, they save you money and help to save the planet.
Enjoying all the videos of the Grand Canyon. Reminds me of the Yosemite videos I watched that made me want to go to Yosemite. Looking forwards to heading back there in November.
“We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.” -Carl Sagan, a portion of speech at Cornell University, October 13, 1994
I hope to see that beautiful sky in AZ in June :) Can't await it. I really have to ask, can you really see the milky way with your own eyes? If so, when can I see it, at which time?
Yes! You can see the Milky Way with your own eyes. All you need is to be away from sky glow from cities. In a dark natural environment when the moon is not out. The summer is best for seeing the Milky Way.
RTobi (Rummeltobi) We have had nights at the Grand Canyon Star Party where the Milky Way will cast a shadow, and you can read by the star light. In June, it rises in the east in early evening, and is a spectacular feature of the night sky. There is a Native American concept that the dark rift separating the spiral arms of the Milky Way shows God's arms, showing His love and protecting his creation.Jim O'ConnorSouth Rim CoordinatorGrand Canyon Star Partygcsp@tucsonastronomy.org
TheKilla9409 Really nice. I've been there on the 20th June on the 4th day of new moon. I saw a lot of stars and even saw the milky way with my own eyes even though it was the 4th night of new moon. And I got some nice pictures of it so yeah, really beautiful :)
Difficult to look at the remarkable vastness, just the profound immenseness of space and not see the hand of the Creator. I know it sounds simple but when you see a picture or painting, there was a photographer or artist that created it. When you see the world and the solar system how can you not think the same? Our simple human minds can't grasp or explain it, so why try and rationalize it with theory. We'll be there in 3 weeks, my 3 kids will be blown away!
i am city folk and i love the night sky as well, but i can attest to the original comment. My father and many other people i know do not care about the night sky, or the environment in general. He is too lazy to recycle and so are many other people.
In the bible it mentions how King David pondered on the stars and learned about Jehovah God and his creations..thats what i thought of at the beginning of this video..Gods creations are truely amazing if you just pay attention.God knows how many stars there are,and he knows them all by name.
was impressed until i realised the stars are superimposed into the video. you see totally clouded skies with full star detail, in daytime too!!!. I don't think so....
Hey there... the stars are not superimposed in this video-- the reason it looks like its daytime in some of the shots is because the moon is out. When you have such long exposures, moonlight can appear as daylight.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. Lift up your eyes on high, and see Who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, by the greatness of his might and the strength of His power; not one of them is missing. - Isaiah 40
I feel like these scientists and park rangers are all super spiritually evolved, like, eyes wide open awake.
I agree with you. I visited grand canyon and the forces there are very strong and pure. It's to be respected.
This is hands down one of the best videos I've ever watched
I like the music in it, btw if you like this one then checkout “stunning stargazing in yosemite” that’s super amazing than this

Nice music, was that campfire song written by Ranger Lane? Does the song have a name? Very cool

It's sad that the world doesn't give a damn about the Cosmos, usually city folks because they haven't seen the Cosmos
I'm city folk and I love the Cosmos. ❤

Several cameras were used to record the night sky time-lapse footage in this video. Canon EOS 5D Mark II and Nikon D7000
Most of the time lapses were taking with a Canon 5D III with a fast lens

Great video! What technique did you use to capture a clear full moon with all the stars from 6:49 - 6:59 ?
How do the stars look on our flat earth. Can you tell the earth is flat while looking at the skies.
Tom, and I mean this in the nicest way, the earth has never been nor will it ever be flat.
