32 Years, 136 Matches, 0 Wins: The Unique Excitement of Watching The Worst Team In Europe

- Even in the context of a small nation, San Marino's competitive record is terrible: 32 years of international football, 136 matches, 0 wins. But watching Europe's worst football team comes with a strange and unique thrill - what if tonight's the night? What if they actually win? Imagine how good the party will be...

Millions of people envy them. Not for playing for San Marino, but for the very reason you mentioned.
I'd hardly call the Moldovan team "the best"
@@Anonymous8830 do you think they only play against moldova then?
@@Anonymous8830 theyve played against worldstars also
@@Anonymous8830 You didn't think that one through.
To everyone that says they have to change something:
San Marino has:
30,000 habitants
14,000 of them are male
4,000 are in the age (20,32)
300 are interesstet in playing football (next to working the rest of the day
So they probably take everyone that is able to walk or is not to fat :)
(just thinkings, no facts)
That's exactly it. When germany played them in world cup qualifiers, german TV did a piece on their national team - and it was involutarily funny, because you are used to these born-and-bred footballers with their multimillion cars and houses, talking about their careers and the team's chances in the tournament, but then you see this piece and it's freaking "Giovanni, the baker" standing in his little shop telling the reporter how hard it is because he has to be up early for his job, but stay up late for pratice as most of the team have a normal 9 to 5 job, and how they decided that Toni, the cop, has to be the goalie because he's the only one dumb enough to jump at shots from international legends.
(I'm paraphrasing here, but it was that kind of report.)
@@QemeH Haha yes I remember when Italy was playing New Zeeland and the German commentator was doing the same thing.
He mentionned that 7 out of 11 New Zeeland players were gardeners through the rest of the year.
If population was the deciding factor, India would have lift half a dozen world cups. But in reality, we are really bad in Football. The country has some popular league matches going on now. But we still suck.
@@salabhsg Fair enough, soccer is not popular in India so the game is not well-supported but at least there is the resource. Poor old San Marino just don't have the numbers... Having said that, my country, Northern Ireland, is also pretty small but has produced some world class players, perhaps because soccer is very popular. In other words... I dunno' really.
Well, actually the Sammarinese league (yup, that exists) has 15 teams, at an average of 25 players/team, and adding some Sanmarinese players that play in Italian bottom divisions, I'd say that 500 footballers is a fair number

My Speak...would San Marino play against Tonga or Anguilla, it would be a 8:0 for the MIGHTY SMR🇸🇲 amateurs vs Sunday league lowest
Well, the problem is, they will never ever play those teams, because they simply don't qualify for any tournament. And neither will those teams. Dumpert sent me here. Also, Wikipedia tells me that San Marino HAS indeed won ONE international match (28 April 2004, San Marino - Lichtenstein 1-0). Sure it was a friendly, but on that note, they ALSO drew four matches of which three were for 'official things' like qualifying matches for the World Cup and European Cup, including one against Turkey, which is "a country that HAS qualified for such tournaments a few times". So ... yes, they are potentially the worst national team, but ... give them SOME credit at least.
I know, I probably should have covered that Liechtenstein victory in the video, but as you say, it was a friendly and not a competitive international. They also came within seconds of getting a draw against Ireland in 2007! Only to have it cruelly snatched away by a 95th minute winner.
When I first played football in 1978 (under 10’s ) my team used to get hammered every game, the worst game was 20 nil . But we dug in and by the end of the season the team that stuffed us we drew with, and finished mid table. And for the next 7 seasons we were always in the top 3. Happy times plus back then you played on the full sized pitches. Under 10’s games were funny to watch, a keeper in goals either end and twenty kids all together chasing the ball !! Great stuff .
