    Excellent how to...but I think it's actually worth hiring someone like you to install it. You make it look pretty easy...but I think experience is worth paying for!

    Excellent. You helped us understand how to correctly install our glass enclosure. Our enstaller did not include a support arm for glass B so it failed. We will purchase a support arm and reinstall glass B. Thanks.

    While you were shimming the door was the 12in piece of u channel the only thing holding the complete door while you were sending it?

    Do not rest your glass on tile or concrete, you will chip it. Always use a barrier.

    nice video that get straight to the point. Two things though first he should have drill the holes before he set the channel up so he didn't have to set it up to different times second you should put your sleep on and your strike as well as your hinge vinyl before you do any silicone while your tip is still small on your to you should silicone your vinyl in place then if you use some slots you can keep your tip small silicone your panels but if you use Just Clips with regular holes then you're going to need to cut your tip and do a wider joint. You can also put your strike on to help you set your door straight. I'm a beast

    so, the U-channel with the silicone only hole the panel on place?.... hun!... I have problem with the panel, its out of level now, the u-channel is moving in the top from the wall, it seems like the screw that hold the u-channel is loosening. so I have to take it out and reinforcement all again. So to separate the glass of the u-channel its just cutting the silicone and pull out the glass? this panel has u-channel only in the wall and the floor. it's incredible how such a thin frame can hold a big glass.
    The silicone You use is any Kitchen & Bath Sealant from hardware store?

    Why wouldnt you just manufacture the U channels with the holes already counter sunk??

    • @megasashik
      @megasashik 7 років тому +1

      1. You don't always want the holes. in the same place. Sometimes you've got backing in a specific place because the channel goes between studs.
      2. If you're attaching the channel to the floor it doesn't need any holes.

      ah that makes sense. But why wouldnt you want holes in the floor? How would you secure the channel to the floor?

    • @megasashik
      @megasashik 7 років тому +2

      You never want to puncture the water barrier in your floor. For floor you only glue the channel in place.

    i noticed some doors have a range like 43.5" to 44" how do you account for the gap? the width of my shower is 44" wide. i'm guess i should get a 43.5 - 44" wide door, but just wondering how to adjust for the 0.5" gap without having water coming out?

  • @Papa_Izzy

    I have water escaping the door at the entrance. Is there a magnetic seal that will close the gap and secure the door in the closed position while being used?

    • @rick138
      @rick138 4 роки тому

      No . First of all , get a level and check to see if the surface of your curb is leaning in . If it is leaning out , then no gasketing will stop water from ending up on the floor every time the shower is used . Start with that .

    I have hardie becker board and tiles on my remodel shower.
    Do we need to anchor a frameless glass shower door to stud?
    If there is no stud, then is it ok to just anchor it to the wall?
    Would you recommend a swing door or slide door?

  • @jaywalkerincognito
    @jaywalkerincognito 5 років тому +1

    I had a shower door installed a few months back in a fiberglass enclosure. Preciously I had a semi frameless shower door and the installer recommended to go for a frameless door. I was good with it as long as he is able to install it into the studs.
    Fast forward a few months, the door has started to pull the enclosure away from the wall behind it. He claims that there is no stud in the vicinity( there is an electrical outlet on the other side of the wall which means that there has to be a stud ).
    More importantly he is saying that it is perfectly normal to not anchor the door into studs and keep them anchored to the insert.
    Is that true?

      You should never install a frameless glass door on an acrylic shower insert, even with a nailer behind it.

      You don't have to be in a stud but if you're not in a stud you should use high quality anchors. Also consider more than 3 screws per u-channel.

      Not really. We sell a clear plastic strip to fill that gap if it is leaking water. But it depends on the placement of the shower head.

    Ok , right away he's made a mistake . First of all , Sand the sharp corners as much as the small bevel on the edge of the glass has . It's good practice because just a small bump into tile or stone while installing can chip the edge or blow up the glass . Second . Install the wall and curb track before dropping the glass in it . If you can't predict how big they should be , install them oversized . Then after a temporary fit and shiming , mark the mouldings for cutting , then reinstall the mouldings . Cut a new tube of silicone as small as possible . Then about half way in on one side of the U channel , lay a bead of silicone . Not in the back of the channel because if you put too much , you will have a mess to clean up . If you don't push the glass into the glue enough , it will not hold . My way , if in the future you need to remove that glass , you can hammer in a spackle knife all around the edges and remove it . Drop in the glass . Check your remaining door opening size . Then apply a final bead of silicone on the inside between the glass and the moulding , then between the moulding and the curb . If the door hangs from this pre installed glass , wait 24 hours for the silicone to cure .

    you forgot to use a level for the u-channel

    • @CAPOKitchenandBath
      @CAPOKitchenandBath  8 років тому

      There isn't much you can do with the u-channel if the wall is out of level. Occasionally you'll want to grind on some time or put a spacer behind it, but that's rare. Usually the glass does into a deep u-channel that compensates for out of square walls. If you're in Denver and you need shower doors come visit us at www.bathandgranite.com

    Here's a list to be better installers ok?
    1. Why would you not drill your u- channel holes in the grout lines? It's a lot easier(especially when drilling through hard ass tile)
    2. Putting silicone in the channel for a stationary panel is basically a waste of time.
    3. Fork over 10 bucks for a real counter sink bit, instead of using a large metal bit.
    4. If you think that corner brace is strong enough to hold that door safely, you're mistaken. Get ready for a law suit.
    5. Do a video on drilling through porcelain tile instead of that soft ass travertine. They need to see you sweating, cussing and burning through 3 to 4 bits.
    6. Those "gaskets" in between the door and panel will mildew in 6 months. The only people that use those are the ones that can't measure the opening correctly for a tight fit.
    7. Why in the hell do ya'll mount your handles horizontally instead of vertically? That's the weirdest thing I've ever seen.
