Shower doors come in many shapes and styles and are made by many manufacturers. Many shower doors come in kits and are easy to work with, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
You will have to purchase a shower door kit that is the right size for your tub or shower. Measure the distance from wall to wall at both top and bottom that will contain the door. Select a door with a maximum opening equal to or greater than the largest of your measurements. Measure the vertical distance from the top of the tub ledger to the top of the tub surround. Select a door with a height equal to or less than the shortest of these measurements.
    Before you start:
Make sure your tub is level and the walls are plumb. If they are off level by more than a quarter of an inch you might need ledge filler or wall filler to get the proper level. Call a pro if you're uncomfortable with making this fix.
Here are the steps from our install:
    Step 1
Measure the wall to wall distance in the center of the tub ledge because that’s where you’re going to lay your track. Subtract 3/16th of an inch to leave room so that the wall channels slide in easily.
    Step 2
Place your track in the center of the tub ledge. The “high side” of the track goes towards the outside of the tub. You want the high side out because it so water from the shower doesn’t spill out onto the floor. Make sure you leave an equal amount of room at each end of the track for the wall channels. The track must sit flat along the ledge or shower base.
    Step 3
Take the wall channels and slide them down over the track to get the exact fit. Be careful you don’t move the track on the tub ledge from its position. The wall channels should be fully engaged to the bottom track, and must sit flat against the walls. Use your level to make sure the wall channels are plumb with the wall. Mark the mounting holes of the wall channel, then you will do the exact same thing for the other side of the track. Next drill and insert the wall anchors.
    Step 4
Before you install the track, make sure you start with a clean surface so that your silicone sealant will adhere properly. Apply a bead of the sealant to the grout line where the end of the track will be located. On the underside of the track you’ll apply a thick continuous bead to the outside leg only. Position the track on the tub in the area you marked earlier. The high side of the track must be placed toward the outside of the tub. Next, install the wall channels, fit them into place and then screw them in securely. You’ll need to install the bumpers at the top and bottom screw locations.
    Step 5
Before you install the header you will have to measure distance at the top of the wall channels. Then subtract 1/16th of an inch from the measurement so that the header will fit snugly onto the wall channels. Measure the header carefully before you cut. Next slide your header down on top of the wall channels.
    Step 6
Install the rollers on the glass door panels. We installed the roller in the second to the top-mounting hole. The other holes were in case we needed to make any adjustments to fit the panels properly. For the outer sliding panel, the rollers were mounted on the same side as the bottom guide channel.
    Step 7
Next we installed the inner-sliding panel first. With the rollers facing toward the tub, hold the panel by the sides and lift it up into the underside of the header. Make sure that both rollers are resting on the inner roller track. Slide the inner sliding panel towards the shower head end of the tub. Now check to be certain the sliding panel is plumb with the wall. The edge of the sliding panel should touch both bumpers. You will want to make sure that both the sliding panels are hung as low as possible to make sure water doesn’t splash out.
Many shower door models come with a small short track in the center of the bottom track. Ours uses two clips instead. Fit the clip in a slot under the bottom track and then slide the door panel in place and tighten the clip to the door panel with a screwdriver.
To install the outer sliding panel, face the rollers toward the outside, hold the outside panel by the sides and lift up into the underside of the header. Make sure that both rollers are resting on the outer roller track and slowly release the panel. The bottom guide channel slides over the high side of the track.
    Step 8
Apply the silicone sealant to both ends of the track where it meets the wall channel and the inside and outside seams of the wall channels. Once the sealant has set for about an hour you can test it out.

    Excellent!
A couple of notations. 1. You can use the shop vac to suck the ceramic or porcelain debris as you are drilling- that stuff is nasty on the skin. 2. You really should wait 24 hrs for the caulking to fully dry before running the shower. 3. Wiping the surface of the tub or shower where the track goes with alcohol will help assure a better adhesion of the caulk. 4. Sometimes it's best to seal just the inside of the tracks toward the tub or shower, caulking/sealing the outside may cause water to accumulate inside the track and become stagnant, moldy and could rot a wall that isn't water proof. This way, a leak would be evident before it becomes a major problem.

If you're going to drill into tile then make sure your using a 1) Hammer drill.
    2) Get good anchors and screws that already come with a bit so you have the correct size bit. 3) Grab a "CARBIDE" bit the same size as the one that came with the anchors, this for drilling into tiles.Tape a refrence mark the same depth as your anchor from the tip and twice the size of the bit creating a stopper so that when you drill past the tile it doesn't shoot through the other wall when applying pressure and prevents the drill from slamming into the tile and damaging it. As a preference I add silicone to the outside of the anchors then insert it so it sets better and seals it. If you want you can silicone the hole in the wall too. This is mostly for your typical DYI person. I know it sounds like a lot of steps just to drill holes but it helps you find the correct size bit, prevents leaks and damages. Hopefully this helps.

my DIY task was only to take off two existing sliding doors, replace their aged wheels, and then rehang the sliding doors. Easy with this video? Yes and no. The video did help a bit, showing how the wheels got hung in the horizontal frame; however, there were multiple problems. First, the placement of the wheels can be adjusted. Turned out that inner sliding door required a middle position for the wheels, while the outer sliding door required a somewhat higher placement of the wheels. Yours could vary too. Then came up the really hard thing. The video shows how one can if you have the upper body strength, first hang the inner door, then the outer door. Well, I don't know in what universe this video was filmed, but in my universe the bottom frame of the sliding glass door did NOT let you just raise the outer door and hang it. It would NEVER fit. The bottom frame of the sliding glass door made this impossible. Instead, I had to do a weird maneuver made more difficult by being by myself when I did this. For a 67 year old guy, I am pretty strong, but what I did was pretty tricky. Once I had the inner door hung, I had to raise the outer door in so that the top horizontal beam pushed up an inch or so, and I had to do this without one or both of the sliding doors just falling out and possibly breaking. I had to do this in order to get the outer sliding glass door over the edge of the bottom frame. Once I had the outer sliding glass door over the bottom frame, and then somehow had to pull down the horizontal beam while not losing control of either of the two sliding doors. None of these possibilities is covered by this video. Finally and frankly, I doubt the majority of women have the upper body strength to raise one of these sliding glass doors and put them into place unless it all goes perfectly. Not good to be on things going perfectly. I would strongly suggest that you have at least two people working together when hanging these sliding glass doors. With two people, you have a lot more control and a lot more safety. The second person should probably stand inside the bathtub and focus on the inner glass door once it is hung. Why? Things can get touchy when you try to hang the outer sliding door, especially if, like me, you find that the bottom frame makes it impossible to do this without raising the upper horizontal beam upon which everything hangs. All, in all, while this video is helpful, my experience of hanging these sliding doors by myself departed completely from the easy task shown in this video. It was NOTHING like this. Not at all. I *really* wish I had had a second person to help me.

I see the outer door rides on a raised lip on the bottom. What keeps the bottom of the inner door in place so it doesn't swing into the shower?
