I was a teen at this time and this song was monumental....still like it....but at 50+ i don't know why? But that was a great childhood and feel lucky to have lived in that era....
No, It's ALWAYS sounded this good! Alternative music was just springing out of the late '70's punk scene and it ushered in ,IMO, the greatest decade of modern music ever. Long Live the '80's!
LadyKD23 he still is af!! Can't wait for my VIP meet n greet in August 7, 2019!!!! Hopefully I won't pass out or cry, lol!! Reading his book, Dancing with myself.
As an Ian Hunter / Mott the Hoople fan who generally liked punk, I should've listened to this 43 years ago. It's great. The riff is Rebel Rebel-like, but the song's original.
I love watching them! ! Even though it's lip syncing, they're so entertaining! Check out how Tony J playfully strums his bass & how Mark really believes he's channeling Keith Moon- LOL🤣 and of course Billy makes everything he does look sexy🤩 but young derwood looked like he'd rather be anywhere else poor guy😏 they're just great!!
Bob Derwood Andrews is a great guitarist. Generation X's album, Valley of the Dolls, contains some fine tracks. English Dream, Love like fire, Valley of the Dolls and The Prime of Kenny Silvers stand out. At the end of Paradise West you are just waiting for the lower E string on his guitar to snap....somehow it doesn't. A fine musician.
Esse foi o ano em que nasci mas fico feliz de poder conhecer o talento os sucessos do ícone Billy idol ele é lindo simplesmente a coisa mais gostosa amo para sempre😚💋❤❤
They were at their best here, i love it!' Unfortunately they broke up 6 months after this performance(Mark & Derwood quit) but Billy & Tony formed Gen X with Terry Chimes on drums & Steve New on lead, but they ended up using several different people on lead guitar during Gen X (Steve Jones,James Stevenson,Danny Kustow,John McGeoch) and some good music was made but that band only lasted 1 year & was never the same as this 'gang of four'
I really would like to comment on the rest of the band, but it’s quite difficult to look at - or concentrate on - anybody who is not the young Billy Idol. He had the mysterious “X” long before it was a generation or band name thing.
Maybe not here, he was very sweet then - but once the 80s came he knew how good he looked, and played to it. He lived life to excess, as many young stars do. He’s matured a lot.
ifyoueverfind78 this is quite commercial as well. He’s kind of like a pop idol, even here. Thing was, he was cool and knew how to market that. Smart dude.
Better than Johnny Rotten. Better looking, better singer, better stage presence. He also has had a far longer, far more diverse creative career than Rotten ever had or could have had.

Wire 154 punk??? What planet are you on I bought that when it first came out with the free single. Played the whole album plus the free single or ep can't remember what it was. Couldn't wait to get rid of it 🤣🤣🤣
Billy really stood out in this performance.
Watching this 05/04/2021. God, how I loved Billy Idol in the early 80s.
This was 1979.
@@woody5831 Yes, but I was too little for this bit... I first heard him in the early 80s.
Gosh, Billy was stunningly handsome!
Certainly the best looking Punk of that time. Sid was 2nd.
He was just so beautiful. Can we go back to the 80's? Please?
More like 77
This song was actually from the 2nd Generation X album ,so it would've been 1979.
Tbh Billy has looked amazing for decades and is only starting to age now, at nearly 70!
I was a teen at this time and this song was monumental....still like it....but at 50+ i don't know why? But that was a great childhood and feel lucky to have lived in that era....
And me..
Agree it was not their greatest song but it sounded good at the time as Punk/New Wave was really breaking through into the charts.
Best time to be a teenager
I also loved it, does not sound as I remember, the guitar work sounds different from what I remember.
Was only 7 but this is another example of great music and it helps when there's eye candy
He was as pretty as a picture ❤
This song sounds so much better now than then. Love it!
No, It's ALWAYS sounded this good! Alternative music was just springing out of the late '70's punk scene and it ushered in ,IMO, the greatest decade of modern music ever.
Long Live the '80's!
Derwood Andrews and Danny Kustow - best guitarists of the punk/new wave era.
And Paul Fox from The Ruts.
@@pursey2 Absolutely.

I remember watching this when it was originally transmitted. Yes folks, I really am that old.

I was 10:)
He was so damn cute! So young! Aww!

Can't help hearing Rebel Rebel either, but someone even older than me may say even that wasn't original. It always happens.
Idol does have presence on stage.
He’s so pretty here omg

Generation x were way better than anything idol did in his solo career
Damn billy was HOT
still is!
The Valley Of The Dolls album was a real monster. Can't really blame Billy for going off to a more receptive market.
Billy idol is just brilliant
Billy is a lesson in how to channel attitude. Channel on billy

Thanku for that
Steve Jones ? Are u sure my friend?
@@SuperSpunkface Yes I am sure my friend!
Stevenson told me that he never actually played on Gen X although he is credited....
@@martinandrews7380 It sounded like him, are you sure?
briliant song
Mad eyes were Rollin ! ...... Man are my ears a bleeding ! So wicked
Was 13when this came out, still love it
BILLY IDOL = LEGEND. I.
This was their best song...
Not
Jumpers!!!
Only group I ever joined the fan club for. Bob Derwood Andrews my biggest childhood crush. I was 13.
This is a cool fuckin song!
bass line just pumps
Have Gen X on cassette that I bought way back when . . .
GO BILLY BOY !
generation X and nothing is better than this punk
this reminds me of driveing upto cornwall from london before county lines were heard off ?
This was slightly before my time in terms of years, but it spoke to me when I was a teenager more than the music that was big then (90's alternative)
He was an icon.
The guitar in this song kind of reminds me of Into The Valley by The Skids.
Takes me back to my youth
Hey Travis! It's you again. That's two of my favourite punk bands you've uploaded. Ants and Gen x.
The good quality let the guitarist appear as a time traveller from the 90s😮😁
19 in 79 great times being different from everyone else
Are you still into Gen X?
Thank you for the video.
😍
Multi-coloured vinyl!!!!
Mmm I have two - kind of brown! :D
Yeah but mass released so no real collectors item
Vintage BillyBoy
I always thought girls were singing the backing vocals.
Compare this video to one from 77. Dang how he/they changed
easy 1 of my faves! :P x

He was certainly good looking but it’s the hair too! How can you not notice it!? Like the sun.
Rockers!’
Rebel Rebel guitar riff....
Billy lived it large, so how he look so well now? A bit like iggy
He had no idea how sexy he truly was
I think He knew it :D

Probably better than King Rocker
Billy idol punk
Me two old
to be honest, I like this a lot more than billy idol solo...some of his solo was good..too commercial...

For faking it. Gen X give at least 95%
Wow you really can hear jim morrison in his presentation, I thought he was full of shit when he said that for the movie, but I can hear it now.
📢🎶🎵👍🙌🤩
They've clearly influenced two bands I love very much; The Replacement & Guided By Voices.
is steve stevens in this outfit
Nope. Bob derwood andrews on guitar.
tony james
Super saiyan
LA's even stranger, now as then. The gallant four better have a drone riding shotgun.
Billy wishing he was Johnny Rotten...😆
Better than Johnny Rotten. Better looking, better singer, better stage presence. He also has had a far longer, far more diverse creative career than Rotten ever had or could have had.
Both Billy and Sid were better looking - Johnny has a decent side to him though. I like how he’s never cheated on his wife etc.
no he didn't know
third song sabotage in the tube who cut that ? merde
far right looks like nick stahl
Born 1955. So no way Gen X. Baby Boomers a more apt name for the band.
The band took the name from a book called Generation X.
Billy seems like a Gen X though. A youthful spirit, he is ageing pretty ok and still has that “get up and go” attitude.
Yes, I remember hearing that. Do you know what book it was, there are a few with that title?@@VincentRE79
@@junior4654junior m pretty sure it was a 1960's book, will check it for you.
The guitar player has a TRUMP sweater.
Love it!
Triumph motorcyle !
I get it, but I hate lip-synching. It’s too much like acting. I prefer him to sit on the couch and have a reaction video myself.
Did them special effects!!
