- Today we are visiting the grave of Jay Sebring
Born Thomas John Kummer, he was raised in Detroit, Michigan. After high school, he served in the US Navy for four years and was a veteran of the Korean War. While in the Navy, Sebring developed the hairstyling skills that would make him famous. When he arrived in L.A., Thomas changed his name to Jay Sebring - the J for the first initial of his middle name and Sebring from the race car. Jay was the first person to open a male hair salon in the country and his cutting edge style of men's hair care attracted big name clients, such as Warren Beaty, Jim Morrison, Steve McQueen, and Marlon Brando, just to name a few. At Kirk Douglas's request, Jay was the stylist for the movie "Spartacus." In 1960, Jay married an actress by the name of Cami, later divorcing in 1963.In 1964, Jay took martial arts lessons from master Bruce Lee, trading his hair styling services for the lessons. Jay took a tape of Bruce to producer William Dozier (of Batman) and Dozier signed Lee to be on the TV show "Green Hornet," the role which made Bruce a household name.
Jay met actress Sharon Tate at a Hollywood party in 1964, and they fell in love. [Upon Jay's divorce with Cami, conflicting accounts abound of whether Jay proposed to Sharon, and others that state that Sharon wanted to get married and Jay was hesitant. The matter was decided when] {when} Sharon fell for movie director Roman Polanski in 1966 when she went to London to film Polanski’s ‘’The Fearless Vampire Killers" Sharon called Jay to break off their relationship, but Jay insisted on meeting Roman to decide if he was good enough for her. Roman passed the test and Jay stayed close friends with him and Sharon. In the summer of 1969, Jay opened a new salon in San Francisco which was backed by Abigail Folger of the Folgers coffee family. He also started Sebring International, a hair product company that is still in business today. (run by one of Jay’s closest friends)
In August of 1969, Jay was murdered by the Manson family

@Knifegurl I've studied the case plenty. I was 17 years old when it happened. So whose reliable testimony are you believing? Watson's Atkins? How do you know anything for sure? You don't, no one does.
I concur on Jay Sebring being there to defend the love of his life Sharon Tate on that fateful nightmarish evening in August '69, when an eight and a half month pregnant Tate, along with the other victims, were ordered to lie on their stomachs on the floor. Jay, being the objector to Tate having to do such. was brutally beaten and shot by the deranged animal Tex Watson in response to this. Of course that set off a 'fight or flight' response by Voytek Frykowski, as he bolted for the front door, and was run down by Watson, who then brutally murdered him. Jay wasn't leaving Sharon, but Voytek was leaving his chick Abigail Folger. ("you're on your own debutante")
I believe Jay would try and save Pregnant Sharon, but he certainly didn't want to die either or want Abigail and Voytek to be murdered either.
Honor and Respect to Jay Sebring.
You know he died trying to protect Sharon Tate from that awful death.
And her baby!
This poor guy had to endure such a horrible pain and death, May God bless his soul.
It is sad. Everyone talks about Charles Manson and the Manson Girls. But no one talks or goes to the Grave site of all the victims of the Manson family murders. Thank you for doing that.

He died a hero. God Bless the memory of the victims one and all. Just living their lives. Not bothering anyone. Today May 30, California Parole Appeals approved Leslie Van Houtens parole. The one thing standing between the parole of LVH and the rest at this point is CA Governor Gavin Newsom. He can refuse to sign off.
Unless everyone here wantes to see Watson, Krenwinkle and Bouselei out of prison we better start writing letters to Newsom. What a travesty that would be !

It was said Sharon was about to leave Roman and return to Jay when they both died.
Jay was definitely taking care of Sharon if you know what I mean. Why not, Roman was a well known womanizer & skirt chaser.

Thank you so much for this one. I love this man.. just because he loved Sharon the way he did. His last words were about her, and her safety. She witnessed his death. She wasn't that far behind him though, so they did go together. xo

Nice video tribute to Jay Sebring. This October 10th would have been his 90th birthday. His sister & brother in law are also buried next to him. May they rest in peace✝️⚘
There also was a hair stylist who began in the mid 60's & got the title of 'Hair Stylist to the stars." Her name was Keri White, she cut the hair of Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis, Ann-Margaret and became friends with Sharon Tate. Sharon invited her over for a small get together on August 9th, but called Keri that afternoon to tell her she was canceling it because she was feeling under the weather. Upon learning of Tate's murder, she contacted the LAPD, but the deemed her information wasn't needed in the search for the murderers. White passed away in the spring of 2022 of cancer but penned her own autobiography a couple of years before noting her friendship with Tate. She also was a technical advisor to Warren Beatty on his film "Shampoo."

It's a beautiful cemetery, only I would go clean up myself if I lived nearby, I'd also visit & keep clean the graves of these people who died in tragic circumstances, it's a shame how bad these plauges look, why don't ppl keep them fresh unforgotten remembered for the good they did & would have if their lives HADN'T been cut short like they were. Always remembered by those of us who didn't no these ppl personally but no the stories if their horrific end.

I said this on another post, the cemetery is generally always clean and lovely, there must have recently been a great deal of wind and the caretakers had not yet got to it.

I'm from. A VERY small island so we don't get to hear about these tragic things, esp so MANY yrs ago. It has touched haunted & stayed close with me since .I learnt about it. . I try watch something even videos I've already watched, to keep reminding me of this horrific event, I find it hard to comprehend. Bless you.🙏🕊️

I totally agree with you Roman was not the loving devoted loyal caring and faithful husband as he want everybody to believe he was anything but that If you do some research about his life and marriage to Sharon. Roman was very abusive toward Sharon including physical mental verbally and psychologically she deserves better Roman was a horrible person and terrible husband towards Sharon.

It usually is a very well kept cemetery. There must have been a lot of wind that night or morning causing all the leaves. I can say in Michigan the fall really crept up suddenly on us last year!

I think about people , that died , trying , too save , another's life , I can't think of any other , expression of , love ; accept for ; Jesus Christ , dying on the cross , for our sins, and rose again on the third day.

An interesting tidbit about Jay Sebring is that not only was he the hairdresser to the stars, but was one of their leading coke dealers. There was a back room to his salon where the deals would be made. His salon was large and is now 2 separate salons, GoodForm Salon and Dan's Hair Salon.

He was born in Fairfield Alabama and raised in Detroit, Michigan. And is buried in Southfield, Michigan. I've personally have been to Jays grave 10 times. As i've got family and friends buried in the exact same cemetery as Jay.

He's actually buried in Southfield Michigan, it's a few miles northwest of Detroit.
