Zar's advice to not stick to one workshop is sound. I put my CBR600RR at a workshop in Petaling Jaya, Lorong University, Section 16 for repairs and insurance claims after an accident. I was hospitalised at time. The shop helped with the claims. Once they got the claims, they said claims not enough to cover repairs. I have to forked out another RM3,000+. I also have to buy the parts myself. They only installed it for me. Oh! Yeah. My bike was there for 3 years. Owner of the shop wanted to write my bike off and use it as an unregistered track bike. Never go there
Someone once told me this , there are motorcycle shops that sells bikes and then there are motorcycle service shops. You go to a motorcycle sales shop they'll always promote their other bikes on sale when you're there just to service your bike while the other is only focused on servicing bikes not selling them.
There's a shop called unique motor or something at tampiness industrial. My bike front brake kept locking and messing up, almost got into serious accidents so went there as its near my workplace. Mechanic told me brake pump was spoilt and charged me about $180 to replace it. Changed brake pump but nothing changed. Then tells me the brake will be fine after a while. I knew i wasnt going to get it fixed here so i asked for my old brake pump to get second opinion elsewhere, but he fished out some other brake pump and gave me. When i told him its not mine, he dismissed me. I had no cash and they had no nets, so either cash or paynow had to be made. I paynow, but they refused to give a receipt. Went to another shop, found out brake disc was the issue, replaced brake disc, everything was okay. Also, the brake pump installed was fake china crap, not meant for my bike, had to replace it again.
Another, when i bought my super4 from southern motor, was charged $12800 and quoted no discounts because engine was in excellent condition. Everything looked fine, bike was clean, fullsystem blue flame exhaust. Decided to buy the bike, still had about 6 years COE. Then the bullshit started. They made me double my deposit for some reason. They refused to take in 3 year loan instead told me i had to take a 4 year loan. When i came to collect my bike, wanted to check how much petrol was left and the whole fuel cap wasnt even screwed into the tank and it came off. Mechanic smiled and said oh sorry sorry let me screw it in. Left the shop, everything seemed fine, but the rear brake was not very effective at high speeds. Wanted to go to the shop the next day to check on it. Next day morning, my rear tyre was flat, towed it to the shop. They said they'll check and let me know. I went out to smoke and came back to them showing me a nail in the tyre, which made no sense as during towing i looked thru the whole tyre already. Bought new tyre. Told the mechanic about the brake, he does some half fuck test and says its fine its supposed to be like that. Left the shop. Less than 5 days later, i realise engine oil was leaking from the engine. Go back to shop again, wait 45 minutes for the mechanic to look at the engine and he says probably gasket leaking, need to open engine, labour will be 300$. I said its still under warranty, do it for free. Salesman says 90 day warranty doesnt cover all this. Told them fuck off, went to my regular shop after about a month. Had to overhaul the engine as there was some damage inside as well. On top of that, mechanic shows me there's no air filter in the bike this whole time. And the rear brake caliper had some issues as well as there was air in the brake lines. Just cant trust anyone nowadays.
I think the hunt for a reliable workshop seems to be a right of passage. All I ever want is to go to the workshop and be able to just blindly trust the words from the mechanic. But its never the case cos majority try and hard sell additional work. One advice i would give is always talk to the mechanic. Some shops have the "sales person" to be middle man and they might not always tell you exactly what the mechanic says. For new riders/new owners the best advice is to go join local FB groups specific to your model. There were times where its saved me from even going to the workshop by following the advice for the more experienced riders. And also for those riding class 2 bikes, don't cheap out on repair cos that will just come back to bite you. Ask around a 1000 times before committing to a workshop.
Yes. Finding a trusted mechanic and workshop is definitely a work of trial and error. Need to experiment alot and building rapport with the person. But its safe to say that most workshops here do practice upselling and ripping people off. Until we can learn to maintain our own machines, I guess getting ripped off is commonplace in Singapore
The comment you shared on AhChong planet motor is really one of those good shop to go to. Only issue if they sometimes have too many customer so need to wait a bit
Kaki bukit is like the Sim Lim Square for motorbikes bro! If you don't know anything and you go the wrong shop there.. thats it for your wallet. I was told countless lies there from when I was a p plate rider even up till class 2, from a R15 V1 radiator fan sound (which is completely normal) becoming 'an issue' and having to overhaul (price quoted to me was 2k+ for a R15 v1 which is completely ridiculous) to accident claims that promised they would change new parts for you or at least get decent parts but in the end they just reused your parts from the accident. Complete bullshit move some Singapore bike shops do. Hope these untrustworthy shops close down and go bankrupt hehe.
maybe we can all give clues of the shop. for me , my 30 years riding met many shop trying to make a quick buck. worse are those that will steal our petrol
This one i can relate. When i was riding my vespa. When there is a need to send my vespa to my regular mechanic i often noticed that my petrol will be like 1/4 left when i collect it. Cos i remembered that i fill up before heading over. Apparently the mechanic will drain out some petrol and use it to degrease and clean my engine and parts. So over the years i became smarter, so when i know i need to send in my bike for major repair, i make sure i dont fill her up. Just leave about less then 1/4 of petrol.
I kena on may this year. Did a fork service. I pump petrol full tank which will state 300-320km left on ODO. But after the service being done. Mechanic say he used abit of petrol from my tank. When i rode, it state 200km left. Used 100km worrh of petrol do what also dont know.
I don’t rely on 1 repair shop, if you hv the time go to a few shops and look out for their workmanship and how they communicate with you and ofcos the prices
Went to jln bapok to chg my brake pump. The next day, the nut was leaking brake fluid.Brake fluid is corrosive.Had it tightened, thereafter the actual brakes has issues. Never again.
Hahaha me too have that expreriean the wk at alexander but to me its a funny one cos my old bike cant start so i know it the plug coil cos no spark on the spark plug so sent the bike to one of the wk there and this uncle say need to cut my rxk exhaust to check 🤣🤣🤣🤣 den i told him wah every bike cannot start need to cut exhaust sooooo f funny or cut the bike into half straight away me walk away and keep laughing and when to the next door shop and share my story with another mac and we both lol at him and his face turn black lol

Despite that, i applaud the owner's workmanship.

Depends on the shop and mechanic. So far for me, okay. No issues. But I've heard a lot of riders with half past six jobs
