"Colin, don't be like Chet." - Tom Hanks
Ugh. Why did I have to learn that Chet exists?
*slow clap
Chet is the OG man, you’re back asswards on this
Bomboclaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
@@nickv3085 😂
Not at all surprised he's such a grounded chill guy. And I know it's stupid to say he looks like his Dad because _duh_ of course he does, but sometimes he makes a face or a certain mannerism and it's like seeing a clone of 80s Tom.
so true!
he has the same eye squint action
they should remake Cast Away with him lol
He looks way more like his mom though
@@mrbeans2425 Castaway too
Wow, it's been 21 years since I first saw him on Band of Brothers. Time flies so fast.
translation: i like acting because it's easy because my dad is tom hanks
Wow he looks and speaks just like his dad!
Tom Hanks is such a beloved American icon that we have a clone of him on standby
ps: who is also amazingly talented on his own
Please upload the part where Sona finds out the Hindenburg exploaded just before landing, that was hilarious!
ive been waiting for this
theeere we go
Video is titled Conan Took His Daughter To Coachella, starts at 5:30
"I had no safety net.."
Well...I mean...
Best advice I got from Tom Hanks was "reach for the sky!"
🤣🤣🤣
mine was there's a snake in my boot
Colin been amazing in everything he's done. He can do drama like no other especially. Dexter, The Offer, and Impeachment he was incredible in....
Colin Hanks is a Primus fan, so he's always gonna be cool in my book.
I lived in an old apartment on the north side of Chicago, in the late 90's after Conan's time there. Great memories of that time and place.
1:12 "I'm going to smoke pot all day and watch television instead" If only they had cut to Sona for her reaction at that moment.
"Colin, never play volleyball near open water" - Tom Hanks
Colin is a great guest, every clip is so much fun!
Awesome episode. Love how transparent Colin is. Thanks for doing this podcast Conan 🐐
Politically smart.
Colin should play Larry Ellison ceo of ORACLE
Life in pieces was one of my favorite all time TV comedy series
i enjoyed that episode so much more than i thought i would, i hope they post the Hindenburg bit in video
I dont agree with the notion that work has to be your passion. Sometimes work is just work. You can have your passions separately and still enjoy your life. I think this is an important message for many young kids, who start work then quit because the “passion isn’t there“. I also think sometimes it can take time to become passionate about something. Like when you start a job and you’re not very good, it’s not as fun, but when you have done it for so long and you’re THE expert that itself can be fulfilling and give you “passion”.
I think its more industry dependent. Because broadly speaking I agree with you. But if you are specifically in a career like acting where its so competitive and the rejection is so brutal I do probably think if you don’t have passion its the wrong industry. Its much easier to “be” a engineer or a teacher or a IT person than an entertainer making a living in Hollywood.
@@dolph3578 fair point.
He has a cheerful voice....he could do radio or a show and i would listen!!!
00:35 "There was really no safety net" (apart from my hugely wealthy famous parents)
What a good dude. Cheers!
Ha, Conan and I were both in Chicago in 1988, both with no A/C in the hottest summer in record, I believe 15 days were over 100 with the full-on Midwest humidity and none of the famous Chicago wind (that’s for the winter...).
We went to movies just for the AC. Wish I’d seen his stage show, if it was cool ...
Please post the part where they discuss the Hindenburg!
He sounds so much like his father.
This is a pretty cool podcast.
very good
Best advice I got from Tom Hanks is always go behind 40 building to smoke & go see Forrest Gump. He gave our commencement address for my graduating class. Skyline High School C/O of 94 !!
“No safety net” when his dad is a millionaire… yeah sure, Jan
Exactly what I was thinking. These kids with wealthy, powerful parents are delusional about having done things “on their own”.
There's actually a lot of parents that won't bankroll their kids.
I liked when he said "this is either the greatest or worst job in the world". If you think acting is ever at any point comparable to some of the worst jobs people do to put food on the table, you live an incredibly privileged life.
@@abnrmlmind Huge difference from bankrolling and being a safetynet... Tom Hanks is not letting his child go homeless lol
I love when bitter small-minded people pick apart every single statement a person makes so they can feel as superior to them as possible. Must be great to bitch about actors and act like it's not a real job while completely ignoring actual malicious forces in the world like corporations and political money. You're typing on a phone, wearing clothes, and eating food made with child and/or slave labor. Obviously it's hard to get by in the world without those things but when you start acting like you're better than "big bad Hollywood actors" while still utilizing those things you have zero credibility.
6:45 I heard a young version of Woody
Exactly what I thought! 😁
"no safety net" oh get out of here
Yes safe to say Colin had a pretty big safety net in his very rich father.
Or Tom Hanks could be one of those parents who will let his kids figure stuff out themselves. Which is way better then just handing over bags of money and probably getting a spoiled dependant kid for it in return.
@@tjerkkorving I don't think so. Have you seen his other son? How to imagine that his income isn't being subsidized.
Lol...I know 😅 but he's a great guy considering the kind of insanely privileged upbringing he had. And it's totally inevitable and not his "fault" (many of us would like that fault lol). But none of Tom Hanks' kids ever had to take any real challenges (financially, that is), their parents clearly love them very much.
@@Kinikia95 Nope, untill yesterday I wasn't aware of Tom Hanks kids. Anyway, guess many would try to support their kids in some way. But at some point, you better figure out what you want to do.
"I could be punching a clock right now ...."
Not when your dad is Tom Hanks.
Exactly. He would only be punching a clock if his dad wasn't who he is. He's been afforded opportunities none of us will ever know.
With the exception of Chet, Hanks DNA appears to be _supernaturally_ strong!
I just realized why Sona works so great in this format, she's like the Andy Richter for the podcast.
is she though?
"months of employment" so how did he get by with the rent an all ?
Should've asked him about Chet 🤣
Can we have Colin Hanks do a Thom Yorke biopic?
I'm still waiting for "The Good Son" remake with the Hank brothers...
Dudes legit
He had no safety net! Neat!
I need Colin to Play "Larry" Lawrence P. Ellison CEO and co-founder of ORACLE. We need the 2010 U.S.A. world cup win. Love Texas A.A.
I get it now. Whether you're flipping greasy burgers over a hot stove or a rich celebrity, it really comes down to enjoying what you do. Thanks, Colin.
Must be nice to be able to pick and choose who you want to be without anything to hold you back. I wish all of us knew what it was like. Most people in this world have no options when it comes to who they become, no matter what the Hollywood storytelling narratives would have you believe.
He looks like his dad 😊. The good son😂
The difference between Chet and Colin is that Chet grew up raised by Tom Hanks, and Colin was raised by his mom.
@@buck_swope what do you mean? Both parents are still together.
@@h3artands0uLL Colin's mom is Tom's first wife, not Rita Wilson. Of course that doesnt mean what @Buck said is true, that could still be bull***t.
@@nifemi_o Chets mom is rita wilson, you have it backwards. Chet grew up with his parents rita and tom. Chet is like over a decade younger than his brother. Colin grew up with tom's first wife.
@@OptimusSatanas read what I wrote again mate
I want to see the hindenburg moment!
Not in touch with reality, but still likable. That’s quite the feat.
Hahaha yeah I thought the same. He's a little privileged, but I think he can be forgiven for that
Man he so looks like his father ah
I've seen him in so many movies and never recalled his name, and just now, after years of ambiguity, I just realized he is related to Tom Hanks. Weird.
I like Colin.. he's always been a humble guy... but to say he could face months of unemployment
... I'm pretty sure he's never has had to worry about rent or food on the table and even if he sucked at acting, which he doesn't he would always get a job somewhere on something straight to dvd because of who his dad is
It could be how he picks his projects, then again, he can make his own production company.
guys that play Q or Alfred are often complete actors who've done it all
"Colin, take the House Bunny job."
~Tom Hanks
Worked with Colin on set once. He was absolutely nothing like the character he portrays in this podcast.
?please tell?
Good dads are supposed to be the best, man.
Hey Conan!
Don't say driving crappy car! That green taurus was a great ride. Don't denounce your roots..
Someone beat me to but I was going to guess " don't act like you're brother"
there isn't a sigle profession where you can say "i've learnt it all"
my dad is woody
He credits his father with just one thing?
I thought the same thing. Like what a strange way to frame that
He reminds me of when 25 year olds think they have it all figured out and explain things to real grown ups who are polite enough to let them think they are being insightful. Seems like a nice guy and all, but so many tone-def statements that it became distracting lol.
"Colin, always check your boots for snakes"
No job that pays that much can be the worst job in the world.
Anyone else on the edge of your seat wondering if Conan was going to randomly say: "Colin, we are the same height...that is neat!"
hE REPEATED THE SAME THING IN DIFFERENT WORDS ABOUT 7 TIMES.
I was really just waiting for Conan to be like, "So how did it feel knowing that you always had an in?" No offense, I'm a fan of Colin Hanks; it's just that it's a legitimate question
Never connected him with his dad😮
This man is a good actor. Like dad. In some ways better. Still --how hard is that choice? I believe he is a good man. However, born in to a family with mega bucks and Dad the top actor in all of Hollywood--I have zero empathy for a spoiled rich child that could do whatever he wished. Colin probably made the right choice. Nepotism is powerful but unacknowledged.
This human being is as close a duplicate of Tom Hanks as there possibly could be.
Wonder how many times he went… 🤔
No DNA test necessary…
He sounds so much like his dad.
There is such a thing like person responsibility, CoNaN
Lol, it was the easier option.
Your dad is Tom Hanks - you got a lot more offers and access than 99% of other actors.
Lmao he didn’t struggle at all.
My dad is Albert Fish!
Struggle is very relative between people in developed countries. Almost everyone thinks the pain they are feeling is the most pain you can feel. I could easily see how living forever in the shadow of your dad would be more fucked than simply not making it in a career and having to switch to something else. Pretty superficial analysis imo
@@victorkong82 Man, that guy was a real jerk!
I wish he would have corrected himself on not having a safety net.
I prefer Chet
“No safety net” dude your dad is Tom Hanks… I like Colin but let’s not pretend all of your success comes from being Tom Hanks’ son.
Closing my eyes.... IT'S WOODY!
Acting is a nice fun choice when your parents wealth is the safety net. Seems like a nice guy, but c'mon, dude.
You could say the same thing for many careers.
So what if a kid benefits from his parents career.
By your logic a wealthy parent should send their kid to the poorest school.
If he benfited as a actor from being Tom Hanks, who cares.
He didn't use it for negative things like drug addiction, crime etc.
Most likely he will allow his kids to benefit from what he gained.
That's how it works.
You take from your famiy and you give to your family.
It's the money and your dad's and actor. Come on now.
Mini Gump.
=- o
Tom Hanks owes the entire world an apology. For Chet and for the "City of Crime" video.
Why? Its not like we are all asking for your parents to issue an apology for you.
I'm struggling decades before in front and behind the scenes , I'm sure his daddy and daddy's s friends didn't help him ! I can't talk to an agent , cast director , manager ! I'm sure all doors for him were never locked and closed 🔐🔐🔒 like they are for me ! Bastards !
Safety net? Your father is worth 400 million dollars. You could have done literally anything you wanted beside acting. I liked you on Fargo though, Colin.
You Either Learn To S In The Mouths Under You Or You Don't
John Buchan Doesn't Work
His Thanos From The Dust Bowl Is Still Top Gov Innit
The older he gets the more he sound like his dad.
Isn't his father hiding in Greece?
Lol at least chet is a real person not some cookie cutter lidl verison of his daddy lmao
"don't get involved with the Epsteins" would've been better advice
It's embarrassing the career he's had being Tom Hanks' son when most of Hollywood is run by nepotism. Shameful
🙄 nepotism happens all the time. You just sound bitter.
@@HostileTakeover555 doesn't make me wrong. His therapy bill must be massive lmao
Agreed but it's true of every industry. The CEO probably grew up with plenty of money, and his mediocre son is your manager.
@@ArchibaldClumpy only if you judge worth by fame, in which case I feel so sorry for you. Hope it gets better
Nah, he's a talented dude, maybe not at the same level as his dad, but that's like Paul McCartney's son being compared to his dad from The Beatles...not particularly fair.
Boooooring. 💤
