- We visited Adrian Utley of Portishead in his Bristol studio to talk about the amazing, ethereal Eventide Space - and reverb techniques. For more on the remarkable Space, visit: www.eventideau...

When is Adrian releasing his signature pliers?
these are vintage pliers, not one of the modern pliers sound the same
You and I are cut from the same cloth. I love effects...I strive daily to find a new and different sound from them.
I just bought a Gretsch and I haven't used it with the Space yet.
You know,
ooh he a mutone box sittin near the keys
*mutron
OK if portoisehead are digital...analog really is over
Not sure if one digital pedal constitutes saying Portishead have gone digital. Hehe!
Portishead Third was recording digitally and it sounds fantastic. Still a tone of analog equipment used. Digital reverb has been a thing for almost 50 years, I think it might be time to accept it.
If it's good enough for Adrian it's good enough for me.
Wolf Chen same here! If he gets on board with a piece of kit, I’m down!
Amen
On of the few things in his arsenal I can afford to buy :D :D :''(
Still my favorite reverb in 2024.
Eventide needs to get Adrian to do some presets to share. Not that I want to 100% cop his thing, but these would be a better starting point for me than many of the others that come with the Blackhole plugin. After watching this about 3 dozen times, I'm gonna hafta start saving for a Space as well.
I don't think there's much he does with the parameters, after finding a good preset... Maybe just a bit. I own this module and it's just sick. But you need to take your time and find what will blow your mind!
I'm pretty sure that High Rise patch we can hear in Portishead's SOS track. Also, it's a great example of minimal approach that Adrian was talking.
Omfg Moog plus This Space
😎
They should put out a Room pedal. Very underrated imo. Easily an always on.
Good to hear they've moved with the times - I remember back when they released their first album they expressed a dislike for all digital reverb even though there were plenty of excellent sounding rack units in the mid-nineties. From.my own experience it's about finding an algorithm or device that has character and sits well.with everything. Both Space and Blue Sky have a musicality that provides that.
I wholeheartedly agree, though I would like to add the Stymon Flint and Catalinbread Talisman to the your short list of musical reverbs.
Fell in love with the Blue Sky after seeing Russian Circles live many moons ago. Added that to the RE-20 reissue for ultra stack space verb. But THIS pedal is going to be the third to replace my glitched out Holiest Grail. So excited!
This man is great, brilliantly inventive mind and an open explorer. He makes music approachable too for the noobs.
like nurse with wound?
Doing a lot of reverb, probably more reverb than people think
Someone asked me yesterday what kind of Gretsch I bought and what kind of Gretsch I think he's playing in the video. Thanks for asking. I saw your question while I was at work, and by the time I got home and was going to answer it, you deleted it. Just posting this in the hope you see it and to let you know I appreciate your question.
I actually got an Electromatic G5622T, a center block model with a Bigsby, in Imperial stain. I was pretty interested in getting a Streamliner, but after playing the Electromatic, I decided on it. It felt better and sounded better as well.
It kind of looks like a Chet Atkins Country Gentleman is being played here, although I'm no expert. I looked up how they look online and this appears to look similar, although there could be other models that are single cutaway in this color and have two knobs up near the neck. Thanks, and hope you see this comment.
Update-Just looked up his equipment on Equipboard, and he does play a Country Gentleman.
honestly if adrian loves it ill more than likely love it. sold
Does someone knows What Gretsch Ade was playing? 😢
Looks like a Gretsch, probably the Brian Setzer Signtaure ‘smoke’ 59 hollowbody
Geordie Walker from Killing Joke once said that the guitar is like an orchestra in a box. Adrian Utley demonstrates this theory completely. Such an amazing guitarist.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 AHAHA SHIT PLAYER...ONLY PLAY A FEW NOTES...HAHAHA CRAP....SHIT...HAHAHAHA🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey!! Were those presets (High Rise and Deep Sea) made by Adrian Utley??
Believe so, yes!
Very tasteful selection of gear!
This is the video that made me get this pedal. Being a guitar and synth player, it was cool to hear it in both contexts.
STUPID COMENT...STUPID KID
Best advertisement I've ever seen. Glad that I bought it before :)
,,,mmmhhhhhla chitarra che viene suonata come un violino! Inetressante però
It’s eventide we used to go apeshit over new eve tide effects
Do you get a free set of needle nose pliers...
Of course he did, duh
I saw Adrian with John Parish in 2003...pretty sure it was a screwdriver on a Gretsch Silver Jet that time. He also had a Dictaphone held up to the pickups for a song.
J Howell he used his dictaphone? he should have used his finger like everyone else...
Strangers confirmed
Wow... That Oberheim ^_^
Glissando ❤
Perfect !
Amazing
Black Hole!!
He did the alien sound from Annihilation using the Oberheim Two Voice Pro in this video and the Eventide Space. Very cool!
Was Adrian involved in Annihilation? I thought it was Geoff and Ben Salisbury using mainly a waterphone instead of synths...
That was the other guy in Portishead Geoff Barrow. It's an Oberheim Two Voice, but they didn't mention using the Eventide in particular, just a lot of studio processing.
Wrong Portishead guy. Ha
@5:20 Holy jeez.
That powerful Model D
And he didn't get paid by Eventide at all.
Correct.
I'm sure he hasn't had to pay for effects in years though. Eventide surely gave him 3 of these
I want that High Rise preset so bad !
sledge_909 Well I think it's just a slight variation of Blackhole.
I was checking out the Blackhole pedal - so let me get this right, this pedal has Blackhole pedal included in it and more.....?
Short answer: Yes :)
@@Rogerthat144 Thank You
