This is for the vast majority of current truck buyers that don’t really need a truck, but appreciate what a full size truck offers. Savings on fuel while still being able to occasionally (very) tow, carry a load heavier than just the family.
Exactly. Just got the Silverado turbo crew cab. I wanted more space while getting good gas mileage. I like the Turbo engine.
Exactly, my wife and i have a permanent spot at a campground, so no more need to tow 8000lbs. I go through 3 cords of wood a year, get mulch, pavers, river rock etc. so i just need a truck bed for hauling. I'm 6'3" 290lbs so a smaller truck like a canyon or a tacoma just wouldn't work. Looking at a crew cab with the 2.7l for my next purchase this spring.
That's me. I would use it for yard work towing a small boat to the lake and moving furniture once in a long while. Never really need to tow heavy loads on a regular basis
Fuel economy is kind of a wishy washy reason, theres only 1mpg difference between the 5.3 and 2.7t
@@Wolf.88 Curious what your fuel economy is? Thanks.
I'm an owner Since April 2020; GMC Elevation package which is nicely loaded. Two wheel drive; Monochromatic Black. Have had No issue with this Truck. Other then the Apple car play that has slight glitches. I Tow an RV Travel trailer; recently towed 1,950 miles. I went through one 6% grade. RV weight & Payload combined 4,600 lbs towing at speeds of 64-68 MPH avg gas mpg's 10.5-11.2 MPG. I have achieved 12.5 mpg's at speeds of 59-63 mph. Truck never struggles plenty of torque when needed. When not towing my city MPG's 18-19 and HWY 23-24 MPG's; Cabin is quiet and Bose sound system is great. Although I see myself buying a Hybrid with the max power supply that will come in handy while dry-docking for A/C power. Yet on a day to day bases this truck works for me. Hopefully GM puts out a Hybrid version with generator power from the Lithium batteries. Regarding my Gas MPG's I'm getting for weight/ payload is Outstanding for a gas engine when towing.
I own the 20' Elevation with the same engine (4WD) I agree with the Car Play there are some bugs here and there. Move the cord from the iPhone a little bit than it loosing connection (again not a big deal), and sometimes the paddles for skipping songs and volume lag out. Usually just unplug, rarely does it require a park and restart. Love my 2.7T averaging about 22MPG.
I honestly see no down side to this engine in a full size truck.
It's just fine
Based on what exactly?
@@uc5337 it simply does what a truck engine needs to do...
Haul, tow it's a light truck if your hauling a massive load get a heavy duty truck
@@uc5337 310hp/340 ftlb. What exactly are you talking about?
That motor configuration might be better for the Canyon.
I've scoured the internet for dirt on the L3B 2.7 turbo and come up with nothing, even after 2-3 years it's been around. The 5.3 is becoming a horror show recently. I know this is the result of stricter Gov't requirements imposed on automakers. This may be the best motor from GM in decades.
Very helpful bud, thank you!
I’m starting to consider this and I’m trying to find info on the engine as well. Thanks
I have done the same the engine was built with durability in mind diesel like build to handle its diesel like power dynamics and toque. They built the turbo first then engine to compliment the turbo it’s a gas built off of diesel design. It’s revolutionary.
Honestly, this engine is for MOST truck buyers. 7000lb towing capacity is plenty for even most everyday users.
I am honestly the perfect user for this kind of setup. I could get along perfectly fine with a midsize truck, but I prefer the size/room a full size gives.
How Come GM Doesn't Bring back the Atlas Engine Platform and put a turbo on it?
ATLAS/VORTEC 4200, 4.2l I-6 (01-09) made 270-291 HP/ 277 LBFT
JUST ADD A TURBO!
This would kill FORD 3.496L V6 TT REG AND H.O. / Toyota 3.444L V6 TT REG AND H.O. / RAM 5.7L V8/ NISSAN 5.6L V8
The gas mileage wouldn't be much better than the 8, I that's probably why.
I drove this truck …it just didn’t feel right
Ended up getting the 3.0 diesel
I own one so the and the spec. In Canada is 395 horse and 360 torque I love it. Especially after the gas hike. I love this truck she flys but she's not for toughing my trailers 13000 lpds empty I wouldn't pull it with this truck. But don't get me wrong I love this truck. It's the only one I've ever seen with only turbo on the b,,ack with evaluation on the side. I love my truck.
What the hell! this engine doesn't get much better MPG than my 2005 2500 Ram with the Hemi! Why bother?
I bet it gets about 6 more in the city.
the fuel economy with this vs the 5.3 is almost not noticeable. go for the 5.3.. great motor.. more power.. and VERY durable.
More power, I'm not so sure. Perhaps more power potential but straight off of the lot this 2.7L offers far more torque for towing.
@@thisismyname2936 um.. what? lol. no
@@kentuckyjones7242 the 4cylinder has 50 pounds per foot of torque than the v8. Accelerates well and city stop and gos youll save quite a bit on gas.
@@cedriccabral3250 it also has less HP.. and it NOT that big of a difference on gas.. .. AND the 5.3 is one of the most reliable Engines ever made.. easy as hell to work on.
@@kentuckyjones7242 yea i see ur point but stop and gos if your in the city it will save you
What type of fuel does it require?
87 octane.
It's hard for me to believe that GM isn't exaggerating those towing and hauling numbers. Even if they aren't I don't think I'd be comfortable hauling or towing anything heavier than a lawn mower with it.
I'm not much of a mechanic nerd, only have personal experience with this truck (owned it 9 months). It pulled my 23' boat and 5kLb trailer comfortably.
The motor has a very surprising amount of power.
It has more torque than 5.3 v8 so I don’t understand why people think u can’t tow with it .
It's nice but I think I'll stick with my '18 Frontier for now.
You hope you enjoy the truck, looks like a fun cruising vehicle
I think a majority of ppl don't need full size trucks. I know a lot of ppl who have full size trucks and just keep them for show. They don't use them for what they are intended for.
Hate to see that the v8 sierra has everything a 4 cylinder and v6 don’t have
It would be cool if you could get the 2022 2.7T with its increased power output. Torque has been increased from 348lb-ft to 420lb-ft of torque. Towing increased to 9600lbs for 2wd.
This is a great base engine, blows away what comes standard in any other truck. However the 3L duramax is the real winner for MPG and power in these new GM trucks.
City mpg is 3 better than the typical 5.3L V8, so a fleet of these trucks would save a shitload of $$. That's beside the initial cost of the 5.3L being thousands of dollars.
Fords 2.7L was created to compete with the 5.3L. See with cylinder deactivation the 5.3L kicks the 3.5L ecoboost butt in MPG. A 5.3l in 4 cylinder mode is 2.65L. So ford made their 2.7T. GM 2.7T again beats the Ford because they have cylinder deactivation on their 2.7T, making it only 1.35L in 2 cylinder mode.
Now with the increased torque of the 2022 GM engine, can imagine the 15HP more the Ford engine makes isn't noticeable.
Drive an ecoboost and you might change your mind.
I wouldnt get the 3.0. Too many issues.
They are neutering the mpg of this engine…… it’s a shame.
Soon we will have 1.6 T in trucks
If it's not a V8 there will be plenty to talk about in a couple of years when the turbos start breaking and the motor just starts to get run down. It will most likely end up costing more money in the long run compared to any V8 motor. IMO I'll stick with what I know the last 40 years I've been driving give me the 8 cylinder.
I couldn’t agree more.
Same as EVs. Wait for few years and you’ll see. F150 was a perfect example of it and dumb people are still buying it.
Nothing’s been tested properly but everyone jumped on it.
Most sheeple bought the story.
Hmmm…reminds me of something.
This is the the worst option you can get.
How can a 2.7L 4 cylinder engine with turbo even be an option for a truck of that size?
Then they say fuel economy. What fuel economy with a 4 cylinder engine screaming with a help of turbo is expected? What do people think they’ll realistically save vs getting a 5.3 L V8?
What exactly are you saying and under what expense? Lack of power, lazy take offs, engine noise… This engine will not last long. Expect problems left and right. Ford did the same thing and it’s got million and one problem with so called “eco boost” engines of same or similar size.
Pickup trucks have to be V8 or 6 cylinder Diesel at least.
The echoboost is six cylinder.
It doesn’t matter, it’s still a small engine for a heavy vehicle like that. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.
@@uc5337 It was designed for that weight. It’s made to for medium duty. Get over it already.
Get over what?
I don’t care. Your loss if you bought it.
That engine is good for Canyon not Sierra.
@@uc5337 How can you go from ford to gm. You do know the echoboost is a ford motor?
$12,000 cheaper than a diesel and that buys a lot of gas!
Not in a half ton
Nope try again….
Peak torque not at 1500 rpm its 3000
A GDI turbo will not last 100k.
The epitome of engineered obsolescence.
Have you actually owned a turbo gas engine let alone one with GDI? I'm on my third one, currently at 78k miles on this one with no mechanical issues. Put just over 100k on my last 2 as well.
As long as you regularly change your oil and actually follow manufacturers oil specs, use quality top tier fuel you shouldn't have issues with any modern car before 100k miles.
