What if you eat oats without the chocolate chips, honey and a Whole banana, but instead with chia seeds and shredded coconut and almonds and scrambled egg on the side. Would that be so bad? Honestly oatmeal gets me full and my stomach feels a lot better.

Yes, oats already have carbs, but they will be much healthier without all the extra sugar and carbs she added. I was told to eat a carb with a protein and a fat. I eat Oatmeal everyday at nigh time. My concoction: 1 cup of rolled Oats, 1 litre of liquid in a pot, consisted of water, Almond milk, Soymilk, 2 Tsp Pumpkin seeds, 2 Tsp Hempseeds, 1 Tsp Raw Cacao and 1/4 cup of Chia seeds.

I was overweight as a teen. Tried all the fad diets and sadly I think keto is one of them. Fast weight loss but awful constipation and fast weight gain when you eventually find it’s unsustainable. Crohn's disease for 17 years, 6ft and now 150 lbs. I ditched the "crohns" diet 8 years ago when I hit 230lbs. since then, Ive ate 4 eggs and oatmeal using coconut milk, and usually put blueberries or raspberries and dark chocolate in. Ill do a lil honey in my coffee zo I dont Dd sweetener to my oats. lunch is usually salad and vegetables feom garden either fresh or what I canned last year, along with zome types of fish. some day lunch will be some type of beans or lentils with quinoa, kale, edamame, rice, lentils of any combination with some vegetables from garden and still fish. dinner is some type of meat and veggies with maybe a sweet potato or quinoa/ split pea. 80lbs weight loss and was able to come off all Crohn's meds last year. Not in remission but able manage it still with diet. If I have a flare up then my diet has to change to a high complex carb diet until it lets up. in general, oats are not the enemy, its what we are adding to it. a banana, chocolate chips, and honey w/o the oats would have spiked insulin the same. oats are getting a bad wrap because people are ignoring what they are adding to it. No oats are not a superfood, but they are not a bad source for breakfast if the right things are with it. ✌❤

I like oatmeal, it's cheap, fills you up and is quick to prepare. I think we dont need to add all these extras : chocolate chips, honey, nuts, fruit, jam, milk... Keep it basic. I have a recipe which tastes delicious and is simple. It's not completely low carb, but it reduces the banana use and overall sugar Oats Small teaspoon of hot choc powder Table spoon of raw cacoa Half banana Water Microwave it all.

I don’t disagree that it’s important to consider the glycemic index of the foods you’re eating and try to keep insulin spikes to a minimum - but it’s worth noting that you absolutely aren’t going to lose weight unless you’re also in a calorie deficit.

It is precisely getting your insulin under control that will allow the weight loss. Calories are not a way to measure how any food you eat works in your body, and that absolutely does matter.
This is correct. Calories in vs calories out is pretty much it. you could eat 4000 calories worth of vegetables every day and you would gain weight without an ounce of sugar or insulin involved. you cant change the laws of thermodynamics, and your body is a heat engine. that said, insulin is a very important thing to understand and get under control. keep sugar intake to a minimum. especially added sugar, avoid that like the plague. if you eat something sweet make sure its fruit. the sugar is meant to be there, because its balanced out by fiber content.

I lost a lot of weight (over a stone and a half) with intermittent fasting 16 hours plus per day, I have totally cut out snacking to avoid continous insulin spikes, I have stopped using seed oils and now include healthy fats such as extra virgin olive oil, avacado fruit and oil and, cocunut oil I I have included sweet potato, no more than a half of a small to medium sweet potato a day, I replace rice with quinoa.I have oatmeal once per week which I sweeten with monk fruit sweetener and a teaspoonful of honey, I used to use spenda, but I have stopped using this form of sweetener, this action has been supported by information in your podcast and other sources. I also add spices like cinnamon and nutmeg which have been shown to have very good health-giving properties, I eat vegetables like artichokes, cauliflower, brocolli, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes. For protein I include mixed raw nuts, chick peas, lentils, chicken, fish and occasionally pork. I love fruits, and regularly eat fruits such as mangoes, grapes, tangerines, berries, apples. I wondered why healthy fruits are not included in your dietary recommendations. I tend to eat the fruits in the mornings which include dried prunes for a number of minerals and micro nutrients that have been found to increase bone density ( I have osteoporosis). Prior to eating these fruits, I drink a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar mixed in half a mug of water, which has been found to reduce insulin rises because of its acedic acid component. I also exercise five /6 days of week, which varies from cardio exercises, strength training with weights and pilates on a pilates reformer. I not only lost the weight, but I have kept it off for the past 8 months as this way of eating works for me not only in terms of losing weight, but also for brain health.

I've been eating oatmeal, protein powder, and bananas for 6 months and I have great workouts 30 minutes later... I'm full of energy and full until lunch . That is the only carbs I eat and I keep it protein n fiber fir the rest of the day... so....
I had severe hypoglycemia many years ago and am now morphing more into pre-diabetes despite the fact that I am thin. Many years ago when my endocrine system blew and I was having severe, life destroying hypoglycemia, a diabetes specialist where I worked got curious about how my body was responding during a week when I wore a 24-hour blood glucose meter. I had eaten a half cup of oats with an ounce of soy protein powder and cinnamon. My blood sugar skyrocketed and then plummeted dramatically, making me sick. She asked me to eat the exact same thing for a couple of days in the morning but add fat to it to see how my body responded. Sure enough, my blood sugar did not skyrocket and gradually went up like it's supposed to do and then gradually came down. Relatedly, I did really good on a super high carb very low fat vegan diet in the mid 1990s for about 2 years. But all of a sudden I started having dramatic blood sugar swings and started gaining weight despite not changing anything. My endocrine system basically threw in the towel. I am becoming increasingly convinced from numerous years of experience that keeping insulin low and your blood sugar stable is much more important than how many calories you eat. I can eat a lot more calories per day and stay slim if I control how many carbohydrates I eat. That being said, I am not anti-carbohydrate and do need some or I don't have any energy at all.

@@boomerang6130 I don’t eat meat for keto. I feel better on meat and eggs and fish. I don’t go over board and only eat once a day. I don’t have mass amounts of meat. I do eat liver daily. So me cutting out carbs I actually feel better and have for a long time. So yeah the fact you say the brain needs carbs is not true. I work out everyday and my brain function is actually better carbsless. Sooooo
Na keto and carnivore messed up my bowl movements I added fiber from carbs keeping my carbs under 100 grams and I’m good to go .. still losing weight and feel amazing you don’t need to cut carbs out completely just lower them and match them with fiber

The problem is not the oatmeal. It's the banana, the peanut butter, the chocolate chips, and the honey that you add on. Instead of that, buy a Rotisserie chicken from any supermarket. Take off the skin and shred the white meat and cook with oatmeal. Garnish with julienned ginger, scallion, and flavor with a bit of soy sauce and white pepper, in other words, cook a Chinese breakfast porridge with oatmeal instead of rice. A rotisserie chicken would last for 14-20 breakfasts. You can use a 3-quart saucepan to make a week's breakfast. Your A1C should come down. Mine came down from 6.1 to 5.9 in one year. My friend is doing the same thing except he uses flounder filet instead of chicken.(Update) I have also started Dr. Fung's fasting program to drop my weight.
I like your approach of being lower-carb, but not fully keto. This allows people to sustainably eat a wide variety of foods and still burn fat. I'm glad the message is spreading that it's carbs, not fat, that makes us gain weight. We've always been told the opposite.
It almost makes me feel like there's some other factor at work. I definitely eat over 200 carbs daily but all my food comes from whole plants and never added oils or sugars. Oatmeal is a staple for me and I've lost 40 pounds in 5 months and kept it off for the last 3 months so far and never felt better. The diet in this video I'm sure works but I hate seeing people claim one thing works best for all when there might be a bigger picture to see. I wonder if genetics influences what our optimal diet would be and it wound vary around the world
@@Radjehuty I second that, so many have a misconception of what carbs are. Chips, candy bars etc, are not carbs. They are combination of bad carbs and bad fats. Potatoes, beans, and other natural foods is what matters. What’s your fat intake?
@@highaltitude787 I try to keep a rough ratio of 35% fat, 45% carb and 20% protein intake which for me amounts to around 65g total fat with 6g to 10g being saturated fat keeping that below 7% of my caloric intake.
Actually porridge or millet groats work very well for me... when I eat eggs for breakfast I put on weight... when I have oats I loose weight ! I think you cannot generalise, what worked for you will not work for everybody... everybody should figure themselves what works for them !
If you're having a banana AND peanut butter AND chocolate chips WITH your oatmeal, I'm not surprised you're not losing weght AND that you have a sugar spike .... I mean really ?? Just eat 30 grams of unsweetened oatmeal and your glicemic index will be lower,
I'm prediabetic. I stopped oatmeal for a while because I thought it would raise blood sugar. But started again. I ate oatmeal with strawberries and blueberries yesterday with coconut milk. I used to put in a banana, but I'm cutting back on bananas right now (I used to eat one banana a day). I checked my blood sugar 2 hours later and it was 106. I certainly don't eat oatmeal every day. You're right, information out there is confusing. That's why now I usually check to see myself what raises my blood sugar and what doesn't. I know everyone is different. So, someone else might have a blood spike after eating oatmeal.
if your body has some level of insuline resistance, too much carbs in one meal,or through the day,is not good. best diet for diabetes 1 or 2,is very low in carbs, the keto flu is a problem, because in general,our bodies are adapted to use carbs as fuel,not fat.

Thank you! I like to say no food is off limits. When you used to have oatmeal every day your hormones and muscle mass may have been different...along with other lifestyle factors such as stress and sleep. Oats in smaller portions are fine, especially if you eat them in the context of a higher fat/protein meal such as chia seed pudding with some oats for texture. Or just the occasional bowl of oatmeal but you could add more fat/protein with peanut butter and nuts vs putting a banana and chocolate chips on top along with the BP and banana which is what I used to do....
Well yea oat meal is going to be high carb when you add three different sugars to it ! Try whole rolled or steal cut oats with some grass fed butter and walnut butter. OMG delicious, low insulin respond, healthy fats and very filling. I'm on a clean keto diet, IF, and carb cycle a few times a month. I have had tremendous health benefits.

I like one cup of steel cut oats with mushrooms cooked in with it with a handful of blueberries mixed in. I am thinking of switching to quinoa for a higher protein intake. I have done intermittent fasting of one large meal a day, lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks.

I ate oaeal everyday with extra fiber on top flax seed meal and physuim husks..Mapple syrup or honey or brown sugar I thought I was being healthy eating my oats ...little did I know ....maybe that's why I was so overly bloated and just wanted to go back to sleep by the time I got to work I felt so sick...didn't know I was pre diabetic
But I mean it’s not like oatmeal is unhealthy at its core and lacks nutrients etc. right? It does have some macros like fat and protein (but it depends on how it’s prepared I would think like obviously instant oats is bad, but I would think steel cut oats would be a better option and not raise insulin levels as much). It’s more like for average people with no metabolic problems it’s a healthy breakfast option, but it’s better to avoid it for people who may have insulin resistance. Is this a true statement? Someone was describing oatmeal as “empty calories” on another video, but I wouldn’t say it’s on the same level as soda or “detox juices” (no fiber and just tons of sugars in the juice)…? Interesting question. I'd never heard of Teff, here's a link to a comparison of Teff and oats: foodstruct.com/compare/teff-uncooked-vs-oats. It doesn't seem much better but if you can find ways to add protein, healthy fat, and fiber it's great.
This is really good information, however health advice much like financial advice isn't a one size fits all; what works for one doesn't necessarily work the other. Try to focus on mostly complex carbs, they are absorbed very slowly, preventing a spike; full of fiber; keeping you full longer.
I’m not overweight but I have pcos and insulin resistance. I love eating sweet things for breakfast so I don’t know what to do. I usually have oats with protein powder plus an egg. Should I continue eating like this?
With insulin resistance a lower carb approach will work better. You could increase the portions of egg and protein and decrease the portions of oats. I'm not sure your level of physical activity, but that would matter as well. The best time to eat the carbs is 30-40 minutes following your workout.

But what about overnight oats? Not instant oatmeal, but rolled oats with some chopped dates, Chia seeds, a spoon of plain Greek yogurt, cinnamon, powdered ginger, and almond milk? Leave in the fridge overnight to thicken.
That used to be one of my favorite breakfasts. It depends on your personal preferences and metabolic goals. For me it still contained too many carbs so I modified my recipe to have more chia seeds (like a chia seed pudding) and less oats.
I notice a blood sugar response with cooked oats but not with the overnight, cold oats. I wonder if it has to do with the starches being cold. I remember reading something like this happening in rice? The starch becomes harder to digest or something when its cooled.

i just watched your video and was disappointed with your misleading take on oatmeal. It is a very big stretch to compare the glycemic index of a breakfast consisting of instant oats, banana , honey and chocolate chips to that of say steel cut oats. I agree with the need to lower ones intake of complex carbs to fight against insulin resistance but the title of your video seems quite misleading.

You're putting too much caloric things in the oatmeal. Try it clean with only water, cinnamon spoon of honey or small fruit . My best diet which giving me always best resaults to get lean is bodybuilding type of diet - regular amounts of oat meal in morning, egs , lean meats and a lot of broccolis .Everything is steamed and boiled and coocked with no fat at all.

Angie, you build muscle mass with exercise, not by eating a breakfast full of animal products. Don't cut out your oatmeal, it's super healthy. Just don't fill it with sugar like the doctor did, use seeds and fruit and you will be fine.
Dr. How much fat, protein and carbs per day for a 66 y/o prediabetic? I have been to 2 different nutritionists and the one told me how my plate should look. The other one wasn’t helpful at all. I have received more information on UA-cam by watching Doctors with updated information. But I am still not sure what macro nutrition I should be getting for my health plus for a 30 lbs weight loss. I eat high carb, med protein and low fat and have lost 82 lbs in 100 days. I eat steelcut oats often. I don't eat processed carbs, no meat, dairy or eggs.

I have been trying to loose weight, because my AIC is above borderline. I exercise regularly, but I don’t see any results. I need help, any suggestions?
Ive been eating a plate of non starchy veggies, with chicken breast/salmon/and sometimes shrimp (with non-spicy paprika seasoning for chicken..no salt), and canned black beans. With a smoothie of frozen kale, spinache, 1 carrot, some broccoli, and half an avocado. With no sugar almond milk. For breakfast, ill have chobani plain yogurt with almonds and a frozen mix of berries. (Blueberrie, raspberry, and black berries) and ill add a bit of peanut butter. With eggs also and beans. I'll eat this yogurt at night too if im hungry. Thats all ive been eating with some fruit and veggie snacks inbetween. Its not a lot of food..im kinda poor lol..but.. Ive lost like 30 pounds in like 2 months. I know thats too much weight loss for so little time. I also run a mile as fast as i can every other day, and i walk about 45 min to an hour everyday.

If you're worried about cholesterol, there are a couple of videos to watch to understand it better. LDL-C and total cholesterol are not good indicators for cardiovascular disease risk. Right I keep seeing these videos that oats are bad but they're kind of disingenuous because obviously if you top it with a gang of sugar and chocolate chips its gonna be unhealthy. Like duh. But oatmeal with healthy toppings is fine. Just like people that have a salad but put a bunch of unhealthy junk on top which is just as many calories and carbs as a big mac. I wish they would word these videos differently because people are confused thinking oatmeal is bad. Gonna sense should make someone realize the sugary things you top it with are the culprit. I don't even use honey. I do miss honey and honey is so therapeutic to me but I use keto artificial honey with monk fruit. It gives me the feeling in my mind that I'm eating honey. Its also sugar free carb free granola's and chocolate chips

Is including beans and oatmeal in my nutrition plan going to cause me to spin my tires? Does anyone know? Chocolate chips?!!! I eat my oatmeal (Muesli) with wheatgerm, side by side in the bowl. Wheatgerm aids the digestion of oats and balances the protein. Food combining is a much better strategy than banning such a healthy food as oats.

Your problem wasn’t the oatmeal, it was loading it up with fatty nuts, sugary peanut butter and chocolate. Eat your oatmeal with fresh fruit, flax seeds and hemp seeds and you have a super healthy meal.

Oatmeal is not healthy at all. It has to do with hormons; insuline. I know It might be difficult to understand but carbohidrates cause inflamation. We might live longer but with poor conditions

I can literally up or lower my weight by 10-15lbs per month just by adding oatmeal to or taking it out of my daily diet so......... Not the same outcome with steel cut oats though.

If I eat quick oats with a GI of 83, or steel cut oats with a GI of 53, there will be a difference in the insulin response. The same total amount of insulin will be used because nutritionally, they are identical. So is it more important to avoid the insulin spikes or the overall insulin used?

Doesn’t the high fiber in oats effect the glycemic load, which in turn affects the insulin spiking? And don’t forget about beta glucan which helps you feel fuller for longer among other benefits, which yes I know is a form of fiber (soluble).

Yes fiber lowers the GI spike, also adding fat and protein lowers it, theres a chart somewhere on popular foods mixed together and what their total affecct on insulin spike is.

Yes high insulin is the root cause to most modern diseases, diabetes stroke heart disease dementia cancer etc. Too much insulin like in type 2 diabetics travels from the pancreas into your arteries causing blood clots or blockages which results in blood flow stopping causing a stroke or heart attack. When my mum had type 2 diabetes they thought by injecting insulin would help. The health profession was wrong . By injecting more insulin they killed her. The only cure is to lower insulin levels with type 2 diabetes. Type 1 don't make enough insulin and need injections to boost the insulin level. But both can be controlled through diet. Eat whole foods not pulped into smoothies and if your fruit or veggies doesn't spoil in 3 days don't eat it. Most vegetables grown underground are carbohydrates/ starchy / glucose and high spiking in insulin. Vegetables grown above ground are low spiking / insulin friendly foods. This info I have found out myself since January 2021 after I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic but have reversed it to now being pre diabetic. I'm still looking to fine tune my diet to remove it completely.

What if you eat oats without the chocolate chips, honey and a Whole banana, but instead with chia seeds and shredded coconut and almonds and scrambled egg on the side. Would that be so bad? Honestly oatmeal gets me full and my stomach feels a lot better.

Yes, oats already have carbs, but they will be much healthier without all the extra sugar and carbs she added. I was told to eat a carb with a protein and a fat. I eat Oatmeal everyday at nigh time. My concoction: 1 cup of rolled Oats, 1 litre of liquid in a pot, consisted of water, Almond milk, Soymilk, 2 Tsp Pumpkin seeds, 2 Tsp Hempseeds, 1 Tsp Raw Cacao and 1/4 cup of Chia seeds.

I was overweight as a teen. Tried all the fad diets and sadly I think keto is one of them. Fast weight loss but awful constipation and fast weight gain when you eventually find it’s unsustainable. Discovering gluten free organic oats was a game changer. It’s proven in hundreds of studies that caloric deficit is the only way to achieve lasting weight loss and oats keep you fuller longer and give you energy. Crohn's disease for 17 years, 6ft and now 150 lbs.
I ditched the "crohns" diet 8 years ago when I hit 230lbs. since then, Ive ate 4 eggs and oatmeal using coconut milk, and usually put blueberries or raspberries and dark chocolate in. Ill do a lil honey in my coffee zo I dont Dd sweetener to my oats. lunch is usually salad and vegetables feom garden either fresh or what I canned last year, along with zome types of fish. some day lunch will be some type of beans or lentils with quinoa, kale, edamame, rice, lentils of any combination with some vegetables from garden and still fish.
dinner is some type of meat and veggies with maybe a sweet potato or quinoa/ split pea.
80lbs weight loss and was able to come off all Crohn's meds last year.
Not in remission but able manage it still with diet. If I have a flare up then my diet has to change to a high complex carb diet until it lets up. in general, oats are not the enemy, its what we are adding to it.
a banana, chocolate chips, and honey w/o the oats would have spiked insulin the same. oats are getting a bad wrap because people are ignoring what they are adding to it. No oats are not a superfood, but they are not a bad source for breakfast if the right things are with it. ✌❤

I like oatmeal, it's cheap, fills you up and is quick to prepare. I think we dont need to add all these extras : chocolate chips, honey, nuts, fruit, jam, milk... Keep it basic. I have a recipe which tastes delicious and is simple. It's not completely low carb, but it reduces the banana use and overall sugar
Oats
Small teaspoon of hot choc powder
Table spoon of raw cacoa
Half banana
Water
Microwave it all.

I don’t disagree that it’s important to consider the glycemic index of the foods you’re eating and try to keep insulin spikes to a minimum - but it’s worth noting that you absolutely aren’t going to lose weight unless you’re also in a calorie deficit.

It is precisely getting your insulin under control that will allow the weight loss. Calories are not a way to measure how any food you eat works in your body, and that absolutely does matter.
This is correct. Calories in vs calories out is pretty much it. you could eat 4000 calories worth of vegetables every day and you would gain weight without an ounce of sugar or insulin involved. you cant change the laws of thermodynamics, and your body is a heat engine. that said, insulin is a very important thing to understand and get under control. keep sugar intake to a minimum. especially added sugar, avoid that like the plague. if you eat something sweet make sure its fruit. the sugar is meant to be there, because its balanced out by fiber content.

I lost a lot of weight (over a stone and a half) with intermittent fasting 16 hours plus per day, I have totally cut out snacking to avoid continous insulin spikes, I have stopped using seed oils and now include healthy fats such as extra virgin olive oil, avacado fruit and oil and, cocunut oil I I have included sweet potato, no more than a half of a small to medium sweet potato a day, I replace rice with quinoa.I have oatmeal once per week which I sweeten with monk fruit sweetener and a teaspoonful of honey, I used to use spenda, but I have stopped using this form of sweetener, this action has been supported by information in your podcast and other sources. I also add spices like cinnamon and nutmeg which have been shown to have very good health-giving properties, I eat vegetables like artichokes, cauliflower, brocolli, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes. For protein I include mixed raw nuts, chick peas, lentils, chicken, fish and occasionally pork. I love fruits, and regularly eat fruits such as mangoes, grapes, tangerines, berries, apples. I wondered why healthy fruits are not included in your dietary recommendations. I tend to eat the fruits in the mornings which include dried prunes for a number of minerals and micro nutrients that have been found to increase bone density ( I have osteoporosis). Prior to eating these fruits, I drink a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar mixed in half a mug of water, which has been found to reduce insulin rises because of its acedic acid component. I also exercise five /6 days of week, which varies from cardio exercises, strength training with weights and pilates on a pilates reformer. I not only lost the weight, but I have kept it off for the past 8 months as this way of eating works for me not only in terms of losing weight, but also for brain health.

I've been eating oatmeal, protein powder, and bananas for 6 months and I have great workouts 30 minutes later... I'm full of energy and full until lunch . That is the only carbs I eat and I keep it protein n fiber fir the rest of the day... so....

I had severe hypoglycemia many years ago and am now morphing more into pre-diabetes despite the fact that I am thin. Many years ago when my endocrine system blew and I was having severe, life destroying hypoglycemia, a diabetes specialist where I worked got curious about how my body was responding during a week when I wore a 24-hour blood glucose meter. I had eaten a half cup of oats with an ounce of soy protein powder and cinnamon. My blood sugar skyrocketed and then plummeted dramatically, making me sick. She asked me to eat the exact same thing for a couple of days in the morning but add fat to it to see how my body responded. Sure enough, my blood sugar did not skyrocket and gradually went up like it's supposed to do and then gradually came down. Relatedly, I did really good on a super high carb very low fat vegan diet in the mid 1990s for about 2 years. But all of a sudden I started having dramatic blood sugar swings and started gaining weight despite not changing anything. My endocrine system basically threw in the towel. I am becoming increasingly convinced from numerous years of experience that keeping insulin low and your blood sugar stable is much more important than how many calories you eat. I can eat a lot more calories per day and stay slim if I control how many carbohydrates I eat. That being said, I am not anti-carbohydrate and do need some or I don't have any energy at all.

Na keto and carnivore messed up my bowl movements I added fiber from carbs keeping my carbs under 100 grams and I’m good to go .. still losing weight and feel amazing you don’t need to cut carbs out completely just lower them and match them with fiber

I eat 1/2 cup oatmeal with water and teaspoon of cocoa. Every morning for breakfast. It fills me up. I eat a light lunch and a nice dinner. March 2022 - June 2022 ,I lost 6 pounds. 🤗❤

The problem is not the oatmeal. It's the banana, the peanut butter, the chocolate chips, and the honey that you add on. Instead of that, buy a Rotisserie chicken from any supermarket. Take off the skin and shred the white meat and cook with oatmeal. Garnish with julienned ginger, scallion, and flavor with a bit of soy sauce and white pepper, in other words, cook a Chinese breakfast porridge with oatmeal instead of rice. A rotisserie chicken would last for 14-20 breakfasts. You can use a 3-quart saucepan to make a week's breakfast. Your A1C should come down. Mine came down from 6.1 to 5.9 in one year. My friend is doing the same thing except he uses flounder filet instead of chicken.(Update) I have also started Dr. Fung's fasting program to drop my weight.

I like your approach of being lower-carb, but not fully keto. This allows people to sustainably eat a wide variety of foods and still burn fat. I'm glad the message is spreading that it's carbs, not fat, that makes us gain weight. We've always been told the opposite.

It almost makes me feel like there's some other factor at work. I definitely eat over 200 carbs daily but all my food comes from whole plants and never added oils or sugars. Oatmeal is a staple for me and I've lost 40 pounds in 5 months and kept it off for the last 3 months so far and never felt better. The diet in this video I'm sure works but I hate seeing people claim one thing works best for all when there might be a bigger picture to see. I wonder if genetics influences what our optimal diet would be and it wound vary around the world
@@Radjehuty I second that, so many have a misconception of what carbs are. Chips, candy bars etc, are not carbs. They are combination of bad carbs and bad fats. Potatoes, beans, and other natural foods is what matters. What’s your fat intake?
@@highaltitude787 I try to keep a rough ratio of 35% fat, 45% carb and 20% protein intake which for me amounts to around 65g total fat with 6g to 10g being saturated fat keeping that below 7% of my caloric intake.

Actually porridge or millet groats work very well for me... when I eat eggs for breakfast I put on weight... when I have oats I loose weight ! I think you cannot generalise, what worked for you will not work for everybody... everybody should figure themselves what works for them !

I'm prediabetic. I stopped oatmeal for a while because I thought it would raise blood sugar. But started again. I ate oatmeal with strawberries and blueberries yesterday with coconut milk. I used to put in a banana, but I'm cutting back on bananas right now (I used to eat one banana a day). I checked my blood sugar 2 hours later and it was 106. I certainly don't eat oatmeal every day. You're right, information out there is confusing. That's why now I usually check to see myself what raises my blood sugar and what doesn't. I know everyone is different. So, someone else might have a blood spike after eating oatmeal.

Thank you! I like to say no food is off limits. When you used to have oatmeal every day your hormones and muscle mass may have been different...along with other lifestyle factors such as stress and sleep. Oats in smaller portions are fine, especially if you eat them in the context of a higher fat/protein meal such as chia seed pudding with some oats for texture. Or just the occasional bowl of oatmeal but you could add more fat/protein with peanut butter and nuts vs putting a banana and chocolate chips on top along with the BP and banana which is what I used to do....
None The whole point of her videos is pointing out that many don’t do well high spiking insulin foods like bananas & oatmeal.
Well yea oat meal is going to be high carb when you add three different sugars to it ! Try whole rolled or steal cut oats with some grass fed butter and walnut butter. OMG delicious, low insulin respond, healthy fats and very filling. I'm on a clean keto diet, IF, and carb cycle a few times a month. I have had tremendous health benefits.

I read a book on how different blood types needed different food. It made the most sense to me than reading all the other diet books offered.

I like one cup of steel cut oats with mushrooms cooked in with it with a handful of blueberries mixed in. I am thinking of switching to quinoa for a higher protein intake. I have done intermittent fasting of one large meal a day, lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks.

I ate oaeal everyday with extra fiber on top flax seed meal and physuim husks..Mapple syrup or honey or brown sugar I thought I was being healthy eating my oats ...little did I know ....maybe that's why I was so overly bloated and just wanted to go back to sleep by the time I got to work I felt so sick...didn't know I was pre diabetic
But I mean it’s not like oatmeal is unhealthy at its core and lacks nutrients etc. right? It does have some macros like fat and protein (but it depends on how it’s prepared I would think like obviously instant oats is bad, but I would think steel cut oats would be a better option and not raise insulin levels as much). It’s more like for average people with no metabolic problems it’s a healthy breakfast option, but it’s better to avoid it for people who may have insulin resistance. Is this a true statement? Someone was describing oatmeal as “empty calories” on another video, but I wouldn’t say it’s on the same level as soda or “detox juices” (no fiber and just tons of sugars in the juice)…? Is teff porridge good for us? Or maybe the fermented gluten free injera?
Interesting question. I'd never heard of Teff, here's a link to a comparison of Teff and oats: foodstruct.com/compare/teff-uncooked-vs-oats. It doesn't seem much better but if you can find ways to add protein, healthy fat, and fiber it's great.
This is really good information, however health advice much like financial advice isn't a one size fits all; what works for one doesn't necessarily work the other. Try to focus on mostly complex carbs, they are absorbed very slowly, preventing a spike; full of fiber; keeping you full longer.

I’m not overweight but I have pcos and insulin resistance. I love eating sweet things for breakfast so I don’t know what to do. I usually have oats with protein powder plus an egg. Should I continue eating like this?
With insulin resistance a lower carb approach will work better. You could increase the portions of egg and protein and decrease the portions of oats. I'm not sure your level of physical activity, but that would matter as well. The best time to eat the carbs is 30-40 minutes following your workout.
When speaking of "fasting," could I have black coffee in the morning? What about a 12oz glass of water to take my vitamins?
Yep both black coffee and water don't break your fast.

But what about overnight oats? Not instant oatmeal, but rolled oats with some chopped dates, Chia seeds, a spoon of plain Greek yogurt, cinnamon, powdered ginger, and almond milk? Leave in the fridge overnight to thicken.
That used to be one of my favorite breakfasts. It depends on your personal preferences and metabolic goals. For me it still contained too many carbs so I modified my recipe to have more chia seeds (like a chia seed pudding) and less oats.
I eat old fashioned oats raw with unsweetened almond milk. With whey protein.
I notice a blood sugar response with cooked oats but not with the overnight, cold oats. I wonder if it has to do with the starches being cold. I remember reading something like this happening in rice? The starch becomes harder to digest or something when its cooled.

i just watched your video and was disappointed with your misleading take on oatmeal. It is a very big stretch to compare the glycemic index of a breakfast consisting of instant oats, banana , honey and chocolate chips to that of say steel cut oats. I agree with the need to lower ones intake of complex carbs to fight against insulin resistance but the title of your video seems quite misleading.

You're putting too much caloric things in the oatmeal. Try it clean with only water, cinnamon spoon of honey or small fruit . My best diet which giving me always best resaults to get lean is bodybuilding type of diet - regular amounts of oat meal in morning, egs , lean meats and a lot of broccolis .Everything is steamed and boiled and coocked with no fat at all.

Angie, you build muscle mass with exercise, not by eating a breakfast full of animal products. Don't cut out your oatmeal, it's super healthy. Just don't fill it with sugar like the doctor did, use seeds and fruit and you will be fine.

I eat high carb, med protein and low fat and have lost 82 lbs in 100 days. I eat steelcut oats often. I don't eat processed carbs, no meat, dairy or eggs.

I have been trying to loose weight, because my AIC is above borderline.
I exercise regularly, but I don’t see any results. I need help, any suggestions?
Lower your carbs (50g max, preferably 20g) and intermittent fasting
Intermittent fasting, low carb diet (macronutrients should be 25% or less from carbs/daily) & low impact exercising(walking).
Ive been eating a plate of non starchy veggies, with chicken breast/salmon/and sometimes shrimp (with non-spicy paprika seasoning for chicken..no salt), and canned black beans.
With a smoothie of frozen kale, spinache, 1 carrot, some broccoli, and half an avocado. With no sugar almond milk.
For breakfast, ill have chobani plain yogurt with almonds and a frozen mix of berries. (Blueberrie, raspberry, and black berries) and ill add a bit of peanut butter.
With eggs also and beans.
I'll eat this yogurt at night too if im hungry.
Thats all ive been eating with some fruit and veggie snacks inbetween.
Its not a lot of food..im kinda poor lol..but..
Ive lost like 30 pounds in like 2 months.
I know thats too much weight loss for so little time.
I also run a mile as fast as i can every other day, and i walk about 45 min to an hour everyday.

What about for people with high cholesterol?
If you're worried about cholesterol, there are a couple of videos to watch to understand it better. LDL-C and total cholesterol are not good indicators for cardiovascular disease risk. Many docs are not aware of, or talking about this with their patients.

Right I keep seeing these videos that oats are bad but they're kind of disingenuous because obviously if you top it with a gang of sugar and chocolate chips its gonna be unhealthy. Like duh. But oatmeal with healthy toppings is fine. Just like people that have a salad but put a bunch of unhealthy junk on top which is just as many calories and carbs as a big mac. I wish they would word these videos differently because people are confused thinking oatmeal is bad. Gonna sense should make someone realize the sugary things you top it with are the culprit. I don't even use honey. I do miss honey and honey is so therapeutic to me but I use keto artificial honey with monk fruit. It gives me the feeling in my mind that I'm eating honey. Its also sugar free carb free granola's and chocolate chips

Is including beans and oatmeal in my nutrition plan going to cause me to spin my tires? Does anyone know? Chocolate chips?!!! I eat my oatmeal (Muesli) with wheatgerm, side by side in the bowl. Wheatgerm aids the digestion of oats and balances the protein. Food combining is a much better strategy than banning such a healthy food as oats.

Your problem wasn’t the oatmeal, it was loading it up with fatty nuts, sugary peanut butter and chocolate. Eat your oatmeal with fresh fruit, flax seeds and hemp seeds and you have a super healthy meal.

Oatmeal is not healthy at all. It has to do with hormons; insuline. I know It might be difficult to understand but carbohidrates cause inflamation. We might live longer but with poor conditions

But alot of the carbs from oat meal is fiber and somehow its 0 sugar

If I eat quick oats with a GI of 83, or steel cut oats with a GI of 53, there will be a difference in the insulin response. The same total amount of insulin will be used because nutritionally, they are identical. So is it more important to avoid the insulin spikes or the overall insulin used?

Doesn’t the high fiber in oats effect the glycemic load, which in turn affects the insulin spiking? And don’t forget about beta glucan which helps you feel fuller for longer among other benefits, which yes I know is a form of fiber (soluble).

Yes fiber lowers the GI spike, also adding fat and protein lowers it, theres a chart somewhere on popular foods mixed together and what their total affecct on insulin spike is.

Yes high insulin is the root cause to most modern diseases, diabetes stroke heart disease dementia cancer etc. Too much insulin like in type 2 diabetics travels from the pancreas into your arteries causing blood clots or blockages which results in blood flow stopping causing a stroke or heart attack. When my mum had type 2 diabetes they thought by injecting insulin would help. The health profession was wrong . By injecting more insulin they killed her. The only cure is to lower insulin levels with type 2 diabetes. Type 1 don't make enough insulin and need injections to boost the insulin level. But both can be controlled through diet.
Eat whole foods not pulped into smoothies and if your fruit or veggies doesn't spoil in 3 days don't eat it.
Most vegetables grown underground are carbohydrates/ starchy / glucose and high spiking in insulin. Vegetables grown above ground are low spiking / insulin friendly foods. This info I have found out myself since January 2021 after I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic but have reversed it to now being pre diabetic. I'm still looking to fine tune my diet to remove it completely.

Insulin is one of the most important factors I worry about in weight loss ,I hope to eat healthy,I am not a big fan of sugary foods,very good video
