  • !*!*!*!* NOTE!*!*!*!*: BEFORE STARTING THIS PROCEDURE, CLOSE AND LOCK ALL DOORS, OR UNPLUG THE SBC BRAKE MODULE UNDER THE HOOD TO PREVENT THE BRAKES FROM PERFORMING A SELF TEST DURING THE REPAIR. (IE: CRUSHED FINGERS, BLOWN OUT BRAKE PISTON)
Sorry folks, not my best video, windy and I made a mistake on the info. The pad with the sensor goes on the inside of the caliper.
Also I answer the question "Does the SBC activate activate the brake calipers when you open the doors?" Answer:......You'll have to watch the video to find out.
Once you are finished, start your engine and SLOWLY press the brake pedal half way and release. Do this several time until you have a normal brake feel. If you get a warning light, turn off the engine, restart and press the pedal again, then turn off the engine and start again.
THIS IS A VERY EASY JOB TO DO.
MY CAR IS A 2005 E500 W211. I DON'T KNOW IF THE BRAKES ARE ANY DIFFERENT ON OTHER MODEL YEARS OR ON THE E320 OR E350. BE SURE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
I USED THE POWERSTOP EVOLUTION PADS FROM ROCK AUTO. IT'S BEEN ABOUT 6 MONTHS SINCE I MADE THIS VIDEO AND I HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH THEM SO FAR. NO CHANGE IN PERFORMANCE, BUT MY WHEELS STAY 100% CLEANER!

Thanks so much for these videos (rear brake pad replacement as well) and addressing the “Diagnostic”. This idea of the brakes engaging while I am working on them is my biggest concern about the job. I was considering disconnecting the battery to prevent it.

You can tidy things up when you finish the job by winding the sensor wire around the tip of your punch to form it into a neat coil before connecting the plug into the socket. Also makes it less likely that the wire will get caught on anything as you finish the job. I have also seen comments suggesting that you keep the keys away from the car when you are working on the brakes to avoid 'remote' activation.

HI DIY !! I liked your video. I have the same car and want to do the same thing as what you did with yours. My brake dust is driving me nuts!! Could you tell me what model brakes you used from Rock Auto, was it the POWER STOP 17847, for about $25. ?

Yes, 17847 in front, 17986 in the back. The 16847 & 16986 are the same pads but don't include the hardware kits.
I also put these on my van that I drive 45k a year. Even with all those miles, super low dust.

What brand and model rotors did you use, I like the ones you have.

Not sure. The pads and rotors were new when I bought the car. The pads were PAGID (I think that is OEM). I suspect the rotors are PAGID also as they were a coated rotor.

    Hi I want to know if 2008 E63 front 18X8 and rear 18X9 wheels will fit in my 2008 e350 4matic #w211

Not sure. Best thing to do is look up both cars on this site and see if they are listed for both cars. www.wheel-size.com/

They are stock on my 05 E500, I thought the same ones were on the 06. I'm not sure what your options are.

Good job. After that did you reset the computer? I got the message for "Brakes Wear"

Did you replace the wear sensors? Maybe you have a bad one. At first I got a warning because there was too much travel in the brake pedal, but after lightly pumping the brake a few times (always with engine running) until firm, turned off the engine, turned back on it went away. If you lightly pump the brakes and don't push to the floor you can usually avoid this.
