Id be interested to see like a "5 Best Affordable Golf Balls" kind of thing, since youve tested so many different brands it could be a really interesting list. I guess youd have to base it off of price per dozen since some of the big brands could sneak in a cheaper ball ($30? idk), but the actual rank is based on some kind of price and performance metric. If theyre too close to call it could be a "5 Favorites-" thing instead, just a way to aggregate your (and maybe Chris' too) experience and thoughts to help us decide what to try.
I've used Snell, Vice, Cut, Sugar, Oncore and Seed and would love to see a vid of your comparison of all the direct to consumer balls. My personal fave, Cut Grey
Just tried the standard Prime today and liked it so much that I am here watching this video. Was able to hit the exact shot with the exact draw curve I had envisioned and the feel was wonderful. Stopped immediately as well. If you’re thinking about it, definitely give these a try!
I’ve been playing Snell balls since before the pandy. I do prefer the old balls to the new style. The new style covers don’t seem to be as durable. But still great performing balls.
I have played both the old and new versions. I agree with you that the latest version is not a durable as the previous one. Otherwise, I think that it is a good alternative to the higher priced balls as is Vice and Kirkland 2.0.
His offices are right down the road from me. I picked up some prizes for a local charity event and o grabbed a box of the Primes and they were fantastic. Great company helping their community and great value brand.
I’ve noticed the same thing. I play the Prime and it scuffs easier than the original MTB Black. I ordered some bulk MTB Black balls and they hold up better.
@@craigyearous496 I'd read that Dean Snell has always thought balls should be cast, not molded, but COVID pushed Snell out of their factory that was doing the casting in favor of larger customers like TaylorMade. The new Snell balls are now molded, and I wonder if that's the reason for the lower durability.
I have used the OnCore ELIXR for the last year, but they have been getting too many smiley’s (yeah I hit it thin), so I re- bought new Sugar Pure which I really liked, but for some reason I lost 5 balls in 2 rounds. I saw Snell had reinvented the MTB Black to MTB Prime, so I ordered them $26.10 / dozen, played 28 holes with 1st ball before losing a draw left and OB, so I’m sticking with Prime and Pure through the winter golf in Ky to see which one I like the best.
I just got the mtb prime and x in the mail but it's middle of winter with 6 inches of snow. Maybe in few months I'll get a good chance to play them on course
A quick check here in the states, they are priced the same as the Srixon Q star Tour that I've been playing for a few years now. I'd love to see some comparisons to other golf balls.
@@davedbla6828 The old MTB-X is very similar to Wilson Triad. I've played rounds with both. Lower spin, mid launch and slightly higher in the compression. I would expect the new MTB Prime X would be very similar. I'm going to order the Prime test pack. Excited to try these new versions.
The MTB Prime is around 85 compression, so it is softer than the Prime-X (95-100). The spin around the green with the MTB Prime is amazing; it literally stops on a dime. It putts very well, also. I went ahead and bought the 5 dozen special a month ago, and got the MTB Prime version, which, after tax and shipping, cost about $30 USD per dozen. I'm set for 2024 in the golf ball department. The same number of Titlist Pro-Vs would be another $125 easily. Still don't like losing them though. Oh, yes, the durability of the new MTB Prime versions is much better than the original MTBs. I got to play a couple of rounds on a course before the weather decided to be come winter, and the two balls I played are still unblemished, even with shots out of sand traps. So far, I still have 12 of 12 of the original dozen, so there's that. LOL
18:09 I recently played the Snell golf ball and I'm pleased with the performance. My regular golf ball is the Titleist Tour Speed. Could you do a comparison between the Titleist Tour Speed and the Snell Golf balls? Love your channel! Thank you....Happy Thanksgiving! This is Ricky Hunter.
I like there MTB line. I tried the new prime x line and they scuffed up really easily. Really disappointed in Snell because I loved the MTB. I now play vice pro which I can get 24 balls for $50 at Sams club here the in US.
Question - why do you not show wedge spin numbers when testing golf balls? That is important data for a lot of folks. Especially when testing some of the cheaper golf balls.
Honestly I’m more interested in testing a pro v1 against the cheapest ball you can find like a Nitro. How much difference “really” does a $4 ball get compared to a $1 ball? Or a new pro v1 vs a second hand or refurbished $2 pro v1? I’m just not convinced that $4 is a fair price for a ball.
Slazenger V300 Soft - they are white , they have dimples , they have bollocks blurb on the box , they are the King of budget balls . They say balls to shelling out for balls , they laugh in the face of lake balls you can buy in Argos. James , you know you want to review them , you know you want Chris to experience the journey of hitting the 60 pence ball !
I love Snell balls and these are my gamer balls. They perform better than most balls (both DTC and regular) for me, and they are cheaper so it’s a no brained to game them
I had found some Snell balls in the past and found them to be really hard. I don’t remember what the model was. What I want is a cheap TM Tour Response. I pretty much have to play Callaway SuperSoft simply due to cost. Everything in golf is getting super expensive. I played at a crappy public course yesterday and it cost me over $30 to walk and it was after 4pm during the week. A good drivers costs $600, fairway, $300, hybrid $250, irons $1500, set of 2 wedges $300, putter $250-$500, bag $250, shoes $100, then clothes, balls, gloves, etc. It’s not cheap. When I bought my 1988 Hogan Redlines, I think I paid $325. Today irons are $1500 to $2000. That’s insane.
I’m still playing the irons I bought in 03, work fine. I’ve gotten a new driver, 3 wood, and replaced a wedge due to grooves. Spending on lesson and playing has benefited my game far more. I barely use the wedge, or driver/wood.
Vice Pro Soft is virtually the same ball as the Tour Response. 3-piece, cast urethane cover, and low compression. They're not "cheap," exactly, but around $35 a box. OnCore Elixr is another excellent ball around the same price. Slightly firmer, but still pretty soft.
Would love a test against the kirkland ball and the pro v1. I play the pro v1. I have played the kirkland and find it a good ball but it is the 5 yards short than the pro v1 off the driver
My golf spy is coming out with a test of high, mid, low swing speeds best golf balls. All tested off a machine (Drivers, irons, and wedges). It will have all different categories best distance, spin, and all around. It drops August 28th. I’m waiting until that come out to buy my next round of balls. Finding the best tested Direct To Consumer ball and ordering to get the discounts. Love watching this channel to see them actually played out on the course.
I’ve played the Snell balls in the past and I’m playing the Prime now. I also play the Vice Pro. I find the Vice ball cover to be more durable. Feel and distance wise I find no difference. The Vice balls are a few dollars more per box, but I’ll pay that for the durability. Just my opinion, you can’t go wrong with either choice. Fairways and greens DWoo
@@JamesRobinsonGolf I would say under $35 a dozen (US) and must be 3 piece. Options could be, but not limited to: Snell, Maxfli, Vice, Cut, Kirkland, and Seed.
Been using Snell balls since the company’s inception. I use others as well, and the Snell premium ball is as good as any. Dean Snell still has a friendly relationship with his old employer, Taylormade, so he has access to the ball plant that TM has purchased in Asia, and is able to stock the warehouse.
Same price as the Srixon Z Star from a popular book retailer turned world dominating conglomerate. lol. Are these better than the Srixon? Not sure. Costco Kirkland still seems the best deal for a premium quality, cheap ball... But as a weekend hacker there's nothing better than the Slazenger V300 from a direct sports retailer.. lol
Sorry James, how can £37.90 delivered per 12 balls be "budget" ??? These are way out of my price range when there's others out there for less £s. Sorry m8, these aren't budget,
Kirkland vs Snell vs Vice. All in one video would be great.

Both Snell and Titleist (Acushnet) are in New Bedford, Mass. USA
I've been playing the Wilson Profile that you and Chris recommended. And they have been great. Can't argue for around £1 per ball!
Test against other urethane cover DTC balls. I presently use the Kirkland ball and wouldn't mind seeing you test them against each other.
I bought 4 doz of the seed ball and absolutely love them. I think for the average weekend warriors the direct to consumer ball is the way to go

Used to play the Snell balls but changed to the Vice because I couldn’t get the Snell
